The Mouse Just Isn't The Same

American Laser Games released about a dozen point-aim-shoot arcade games, and possibly more that I don't know about. These coin-op funfests used real FMV video (with some very bad acting, but very cool stunts), and the footage changed depending on whether you were quick enough to shoot the actors on the screen, or not. These games were quite challenging back in the day. That's because the game was sometimes faster-paced and challanged your skills (also because sometimes the screen didn't detect the gun's laser-pointer). This 3-pack comes with three arcade shooters from 1992-1995 - Who Shot Johnny Rock?, Crime Patrol, and Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars.

WHO SHOT JOHNNY ROCK?
---This one is my favorite of all of the LaserGames releases, because the game changed every time you played it. Instead of playing through again with the same level design, you will often see over a dozen scenarios randomly placed throughout your adventure. You are to solve the murder of a rock star by shooting nearly a hundred bad guys, and avoiding civilians if you can. What hurts this version, as well all other PC point-and-click shooters, is that the mouse makes the game too damn easy. Plus, instead of having a limited amount of ammo in your clip, you'll have nearly one-thousand bullets in your fast tommy gun. Still, this is the best of the three.

CRIME PATROL
---This game is actually pretty tough in some spots, and has the right mood of a good cop game. You'll hit the streets as a patrolman, then go undercover in cheesy "Miami Vice" style, then get down-and-dirty as a SWAT officer and Delta Force operative. Although this one doesn't have the replay value of "Johnny Rock", but it's more fun because not every actor is over-doing their roles.

DRUG WARS
---I get the feeling that this game simply gave up, because although the shootout loactions are great, and the enemies just aren't that challenging. It's an enjoyable romp, but "Drug Wars" is too easy and not very rewarding. In all fairness, this one was a pain-in-the-ass to find in arcades. Maybe it wasn't worth the agony.

OVERALL
---This pack is fun, but it isn't worth a purchase because all three games are short, easy, and outdated. Even 20 bucks seems awfully high for an interactive short-movie. You can probably finish each of these games in a matter of 15 minutes each, which is great for coin-op games...but not for your PC collection.
Pass it up, or burn it from someone who took the time to buy this.

i love this game
