Deeply saddened

I loaded up the 3rd Edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire expecting hours and hours of quality entertainment. I was sorely disappointed. After only a couple of hours of playing the 600 new questions were exhausted. With the 2nd Edition, which I have played for at least 10 times as much wihtout seeing repeat questions. This was $19.99 NOT well spent. Downloading the 'additional' questions only allowed for a few more rounds before my fun was over.

Take my advice and stick with games such as 'You Don't Know Jack' or even the on-line version of Trivial Pursuit and you will be much, much happier.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is the most digusting example of what society has come to. You see contestants battle it out on game shows with real questions for normal dollar amounts, and then you see complete idiots winning amazing sums of money for knowing that smurfs are blue. Do you really what to be challenged, buy a game show product like the new Jeopardy 2nd edition, or 100,000 dollar pyramid. ...

Gets Old Fast

Millionaire 3rd Edition has some nice features that aren't there in the first edition (I never bought the 2nd) but that's not enough to save it.

The 2-player fastest finger is cool, although the first time my friend and I played it, neither of us knew the answer to the first FF question and instead of getting a new question, we were stuck trying to answer the same question over and over again. Finally after 3 or 4 tries, Reege finally quit the game and made us start over. Admittedly, we may have been extraordinarily dumb, but it seems that it would be a little more "user friendly" to at least present a new FF question after several consecutive wrong answers.

Another annoying aspect is that for most of the normal questions, there's apparently no way to change your answer or to confirm that it is indeed your "final answer." Only at a few of the "$ Levels" does Regis give the player the opportunity to change the answer.

The game is very realistic with lots of Regis chatter and graphics/music that remind one of the TV show. However, the "action" drags when having to wait for Regis to finish his chit-chat before revealing the correct answer and moving on to the next question. On the TV show, all the chatter, music, and graphics add up to an exciting game but for a computer game, it slows the action down too much.

Being one of the games I longed for during our vacation... During the week we were visiting Atlanta I tried very hard to win the million every day but the questions are so darn tough. This was the only game I wanted to play throughout the entire trip. I just couldn't win And Regis's discouraging made me almost ready to cry. Then guess what a few days after our vacation I WON!!! and I was so glad i had finally won it. Millionaire 3rd edition could use some improvement and should be given more downloadable questions other than the 15 you only get in the question packs. Buy it and you won't be disapointed. So Who wants to be a millionaire? Let's Play,
Enjoy,
Regis {REGIS PHILBIN FAN AND PROUD OF IT}

Something missing...

I just bought this game (6/15/01) and perhaps I'm being too quick to judge, but there's something missing from this edition. To me it doesn't seem fluid enough. Mind you, my computer meets the specs for this title (PIII 1 gig./ 128 MB ram), however, the programing deosn't seem "tight" like the 2nd edition. Perhaps it has something to do with the exclusion of Jellyvision (of You Don't Know Jack! fame) as the lead programmers. Maybe there's something wrong with my computer, but there's too many split-second pauses and skips that make this edition feel like a 2nd generation Xerox of the 2nd edition.

I did, however, like the inclusion of the graph for the Ask the Audience "lifeline". And since I haven't exhausted the questions yet, I do look forward to the downloadable question packs.

For you trivia purists out there, do buy this title for a good fix until Jellyvision comes out with the next YDKJ....

Final Answer!!

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Third Edition was one of the last editions for the P.C. made with Regis Philbin. Still, he still has his zany and enduring way with handling people made him a very big hit with audiences all over the U.S.A. It is just a shame that he is no longer hosting Millionaire anymore. Instead, one of the people from The View is taking over. Unbelieveable, isn't it.

What makes Who Wants To Be A Millionaire different, the third time around, is that the questions are a little bit more complex. Not only that, but if you go to a certain website, you can download new question patches to play all about Millionaire. Unfortunately, those patches that you can download, contain only 15 questions anyway in the main seat, but in the fast finger category, there are more. I really enjoyed spending time with the game, it is just a shame that it isn't fun anymore like it was in primetime on ABC.

The reason why I'm giving it a 3, is because the only way I could've won the million, is because I downloaded the patches from the net. If you want to be a millionaire, I suggest you buy this game. You're not going to win a real million, it is just a game. If you're also a fan of Regis Philbin, I also suggest you get this too, final answer.

Mediocre game

Millionaire 3rd edition is fun and challenging, but some stuff bugs me in this game. but first the pro's

Pro's
Lots of questions and very challenging
Regis is always funny
The sounds make the game because you can be at the $32,000 level and feel nervous during the time they make you wait until you have gotten it right or not. The soundtrack makes it dramatic

Con's
The fatest finger. If you get it wrong many times, Regis leaves and the game starts over.
The stupid phone a friend sucks. Although the start questions the phone a friend helps, in the later parts of the game, it is useless. Regis called this dufus and he had a fire, and hung up. Regis said "That wasn't much help". What an idiot. The friend did not even attempt to answer the question. Shame on Buena Vista interactive.

This game is lots of fun and should be bought. But some of the other features like the lifelines will drive you insane.

COULD BE BETTER,BUT OK...

WELL,TO BE HONEST I LIKED THE 2ND EDITION BEST,MOVED FASTER,MORE MUSIC,AND REGIS SOUNDED HAPPY! NOW THE 3RD EDITION...THE QUESTION SETS ONLY HAVE **ONLY** 15 QUESTIONS IN A SET...SO PRETTY MUCH A ONE TIME PLAY,THEN WHEN THE MENU SCREEN COMES UP,CLICK "DOWNLOAD NEW QUESTIONS",IT SAY TO GO TO THE ABC MILLIONAIRE SITE,BUT THERE IS ABSOULUTELY NO WAY TO THE QUESTION SET DOWNLOAD PAGE! I GUESS I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO GRAB THIS GAME,IT TOOK BVI 2 WEEKS TO LINK THE QUESTION SET DOWNLOAD PAGE TO THE MAIN BVI (BUENA VISTA INTERACTIVE) WEB-SITE,SO I ENDED UP HAVING TO E-MAIL TECH-SUPPORT TO FIND IT,NOW SEVERAL MONTHES AFTER THE GAME IS OUT,STILL NO WAY TO FIND THE QUESTION SETS FOR THIS GAME ON THE PAGE THEY TELL YOU TO GO TO,THE ONLY WAY ON EARTH TO GET THEM IS TO GO TO bvinteractive.com,FOR EVERYONE OUT THEY HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAD! NOW BACK TO FEATURES FOR THIS GAME,THEY ELIMINATED SOME OF THE SOUND EFFECTS,ONLY TO MAKE YOU FEEL LESS LIKE YOU'RE ON THE SHOW,THE DUM-DUM THING BETWEEN QUESTIONS,REPLACED BY A SWOOSHING SOUND,AND THE 50/50 SOUND,THE FASTEST FINGER ON ALL THE GAMES ARE BASICALLY WORTHLESS,COMMON! HOW CAN YOU FIT 2 PEOPLE AROUND A KEYBOARD,AND HECK! THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE THE FASTEST FINGER MUSIC! THEY GOT SOME OTHER STUFF NOT EVEN IN THE SHOW! AND THE 3RD EDITION COMMENTARY BY REGIS IS DULL,IT SOUNDS LIKE HE'S FALLING ASLEEP...I EXPECTED HIM TO START SNORING ANYTIME SOON! AND SO MANY STOPS BETWEEN THE FIRST ROUND QUESTIONS,UNLIKE THE SHOW,BUT THEY GOT A NEW INTRO (VERY GRAINY AND DIFFICULT TO HEAR),AT LEAST THE QUESTIONS DON'T REPEAT AS MUCH! THATS A START,BUT DON'T THEY SEEM MUCH EASIER ON TV,THE $500 QUESTIONS COULD BE A $500,000 QUESTION ON TV. AND WHERE DID JELLYVISION GO ON THIS ONE?! I BET IF THEY WERE ASOCIATED WITH THIS VERSION,I BET IT COULD OF BEEN ALOT BETTER,GRAPHICS NEVER CHANGE! SAME AS ALL THE OTHERS! THEY COULD OF AT LEAST FINISHED THE STUDIO! A BLACK BACKGROUND...AS I RECALL,THE TV SHOW HAD A FULL STUDIO... WELL ANYWAY,WWTBAM 3 COULD USE SOME WORK,BUT IT'S STILL MY FAVORITE PC GAME,I STILL RECOMMEND THE 2ND EDITION,BUT IF YOU ARE JUST IN IT FOR THE QUESTIONS,AND NOT THE MUSIC OR SET,ETC. THE 3RD EDITION IS FOR YOU.

THANKS FOR READING MY REVIEW!

I think I speak for everyone when I say "thank goodness the millionaire phenomenon is over with". Even though it's been over with for about 5 years now, for some reason, the video games are still somewhat popular. No reason for it. Let the games end, and let the show be just a memory. Hey, I have nothing against this game (it's pretty good, but the questions are challenging) I just think overexposing Regis played a big part in bringing the Millionaire craze to a sudden end. Buy the game if you're smart.

Some Fun, Lacks Some Features, Requirements

If you like the game show now hosted on tv without Regis you will like playing this game.

+ Plus +

1. You can download more questions through Disney.

2. The best version available for the PC.

- Minus -

1. Requires Quicktime to run the game but you can always opt
to install Quicktime Alternative instead of the bloated
Quicktime from Apple.com.

2. Can't register through the software (probably since Disney
took over). I couldn't even get my browser to pop-up.

3. Can't use fastest finger if you are going solo and the
choices for your phone a friend is automatically selected for
you unlike the show where you can choose (or at least it
seems so) who to call.

- Summary -

These are just a few of the minor glitches I have noticed.
I didn't check if you could disable the sound if you get tired
of hearing Regis talk back at you or not. Overall, just an average
fun game with nothing to rave about.
