GT3 Killer

Why do people keep comparing this to GT3? It beats GT3 in every way. Let's see... realistic damage modeling, much better physics... Oh yeah, there isn't 150+ cars. Whatever, I'd rather have 10 cars that can show incredible damage (which actually affects how the car drives) than 150+ cars that can't even move in 3 dimensions (jumping off hills in the rally stages doesn't count).

BEST RACING GAME EVER!!!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some PC preview code and this is by far the best racing game ever. The cars handle exceptionally well and you can really tell the difference when you make minor tweaks to the suspension or downforce. The character-driven story is great also - much more engrossing than just being a car on a track. I haven't played the PS2 version, but a friend of mine got it and said it was the best racing game he had played since Gran Turismo - now that's saying something.

One of the Best Racing games EVER!...

I love the storyline way to go, its diffrent for once. Its awsome in everyway, the only thing it is lacking in, is the lack of cars. They dont even have a toyota cilica, thats my favorite! Other than that, its awsome!

If a racing game ever had a feature where you can create your own race track. That would be the best racing game by far!!

Sorta disapointed

Well when I got the beta test of this game i thought it was going to be the best game i have ever played. But then i started to see MAJOR gameplay problems. All of the cars that you can get in the game handle the same way. There are speed differences which is good but the handeling is disapointing. Secondly the physics in this game even know Codemasters said that system was finished STUNK. Sometimes when i would crash with my bumper into a wall i would get a dent on my roof. Sometimes when i rolled over my tires would fall off. This was greatly irritating, but considering the fact that this game is an extremely fun racing game and that no racing games have come out for the pc lately. If you are a racing fan get it and try it out, the gameplay is fun with many vehicles and tracks. But after you play it through once i doubt you will want to play it again.

Disappointed

The game is not what I expected and I just return it to Ebgames. Sorry I would love to by a race game. But graphics and physics got to be right. I haven't see anything close to GT3 yet. Pro Race , Brunout they don't get even close.. I think F1 from EA is what best get close on physics and damage engine for a race game. But lacks of creativity. I few sad that codemaster game after all these delay and expectations is not that great game I thought. I do not recommend it. Stuck with GT3 until GT4 Or you are wasting your money!

nice graphics, but physics model is weak

Very pretty graphics, mediocre sound, and the net code doesn't handle lag very well. The games biggest shortcoming is that the developers have no concept of real world car handling. The game has an assortment of front wheel, all wheel, and rear wheel drive cars. All of the rear wheel drive cars behave as if you were driving around with your right foot on the floor in the rain. I realize that probably very few young programmers in Europe have ever driven a rear wheel drive sports car, but come on. In this game, they ALL oversteer wildly with the slightest steering input at any speed. From the base models to exotic Lemans Prototype class cars. Even the '66 Shelby Cobra, known to have very nice neutral handling, is a disgrace. Some of the cars and racing are fun briefly, like everyone racing in identical Alfa's or Mini Coopers, but the fun fades away quickly. Maybe a future version will be worthy.

highly disappointing - too much fluff, bad physics

Pro Race Driver severely disappointed me, with its ridiculous driver AI, unrealistic physics, and poor multiplayer support. In fact, I got the sense that Codemasters ported this game to PC only as an afterthought, and then left it to die. While a good amount of time was apparently invested in creating a hokey "story" to support the game, the things that matter -- driveability, realism, playability -- all suffered.

Fun for what it's worth

First off I'd just like to say that I think this is a fun game. It is not exactly a simulation, not by any stretch really, but I don't know of anything else like it on the PC (yet), and there are some tweaks you can do to make it a more-than-half-decent game. The first thing you should do if you get this game is go into the Bonus Code section in the Options and input the code SIM. That will switch it over to a much better "simulation" physics model, in my opinion. I played this game for 3 days before discovering this little piece of advice tucked away at the end of the read-me file, and I swear it improved the game 100%. Now the cars handle a lot better, you can take turns smoothly, you don't skid out as badly (i.e. you can actually recover from some skids instead of sliding across the gravel into a wall), steering is less skittish. It's a bit like turning the steering sensitivity down (which is not an option that I can find elsewhere in the game), but much better. I am not sure about the feel of the various cars in this mode(i.e. front wheel drive vs. rear-wheel drive etc.), I'm not sure if that's improved too because I rushed on here to tell everyone about the SIM code. Why the simulation mode isn't just a menu option is beyond me, it really is much better than the default mode. The game still feels a bit like arcade racing when in sim mode, but that can be a lot of fun. They recommend you have an analog controller for the SIM mode, but I would presume if you are buying racing games you already have one of those. The other tweak I would suggest is to lower the graphics detail/resolution until you get a decent frame rate, any hiccups in the frame rate will make any racing game frustrating to play. I have a half-decent system and I have to play in 800x600 to get a consistently high frame rate (and I win more that way!) The game still looks good at that resolution, and the career mode is kinda fun in a cheesy sort of way. Enjoy! oh, there's a patch for the net lag problem at Codemasters but I haven't tried it.
