Great games, great value

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 8 / 10

This anthology containing all "Battle for middle-earth" games produced by EA is really a great value. Priced separately the three games total to around $50 on most websites. Also of note, on most websites and retail outlets this game is priced $39 and change rather than $36 and change. With free shipping, this is a great deal.

Vista Users Beware ..........

I have a Vista OS and have been able to play many RTS games under this system (sometimes with tweaks) but not this set of games. After trying many different things and calling tech support twice I had to give up. I could not get it to run under my Vista OS. I gave the game 4 stars for fun (which it is under XP) but only 1 overall because of the lack of support for a newer OS. When I asked tech support whether I was alone with my problem, they said "No". When asked whether they would ever work on getting it to run under Vista, I was told "that they did not know". Shame on EA for such shortsightedness.

Great games in a nicely priced bundle.

I have been waiting quite some time for these to be bundled together at a good price. It's still a bit high right now, but it's a good start. A much more sensible bundle than when they bundled it with Black and White.

Friends of mine swear that these games are massively better than all the games in related genres like the Warcraft games. They play them online all weekend long and I have yet to see one crash which is a rare thing itself in the games world these days.

I like it so much I am going to post a link on some chat pages so people can purchase it via our affiliate program for The Realms of Legend castle project. I'd post it here but I don't think you are allowed to.

Beware laptop users!

I bought this game to play on my alienware laptop, which i thought could handle almost anything. it has no trouble with rome: total war, but for BFME2, it just is no fun. the game constantly loses track of the cursor so that the cursor icon freezes on the screen, making it almost impossible to do anything. EA was helpful in troubleshooting, but in the end they told me this game was not tested for laptops. so beware!

No pause - so it's Real-Time but there isn't much Strategy

I have no idea why anyone who produces an RTS wouldn't provide a pause key enabling you to select units reliably and issue orders. Perhaps EA do, because they didn't. Or maybe they just forgot.

Sadly, although it looks okay and has the right franchise, I'm not a big fan of playing games where the key to success is picking out the right pixel to select an archer out of a scrum of two hundred scrapping soldiers. Or leaping from one battle to another with uncannily accurate clicks on a crappy minimap.

If those two are either beyond you or not your idea of fun, you probably want to try the Total War series or something.

My kids and I love these games!

We multiplayer with and against each other and have a blast doing it... My sons and I are huge fans of the LOTR series and these RTS games are the most enjoyed and most played in my house....

... for those concerned about Vista OS compatability, we have had no issues. We solo and multi on two vista and one xp computers without any issues.

This game looks like its a lot of fun.
It's much easier to buy together than separately.
It should prove to be hours of entertainment.

Gets better & better

Expands on LOTR Battle For Middle Earth by expanding the capabilities of the original, including the ability to create Heroes from a variety of races with a large variety of powers. Battle For Middle Earth 2 is pretty difficult compared to the original, but my 13 year old has mastered it and loves it for it's creating capabilities. The last episode is Rise Of The Witch King which is exciting, has great graphics, and a cast of characters new and a few familiar.

I have never been much of a fan of RPG before (Role Playing Games), but I have really had lots of fun with this LOTR Anthology. It is great fun and never ceases to challenge and frustrate. All in all - 5 starts
