Don't Take Gamespot's Word for it...

First of all, never listen to gamespot; they .... But now, on to the review... SM wasn't very difficult for me to get the hang of, though the actually levels are full of challenge, and so are the bosses, which are, dare I argue, the best bosses ever to grace video gaming, especially the now infamous Dynamis; The Fish With Multiple Clawed Tentacles And The Head Of A Pinkhaired Doll Who Babbles About How You Should Buy Her Flowers, Pretty Flowers. Each boss if different, with there own moves and attack patterns, each colorful and with its own personality, which is abig feat, considering how on any given path there are about 19 of them, scattered throughout only 6-7 different levels. The voice samples didn't bother me; they won't do so either if you have a strong tolerence or complete unawarness of them. The music, however, is pretty good, though it can go from a nice backround beat to a muted and unmemorable spastic violin boss music piece. You already know what the gameplay is like; I'm too lazy to type what others already have, but, let me tell you, those mechanics make for a good time, not some tedious and confusing trudge. Graphics are just fine. It's nice to see 2-d of this quality around, not to mention some interesting transparency effects employed. Also, I do not think that this game on a whole is overly hard, except for that I can only find 2 of the 5 path, bothof those the 2 most obvious ones, but hey, don't think I don't know my games when I review them even if I'm not exactly in expert in actually playing them. Anyway, if you enjoy 2D blast-intensive shooters, get this game.

2D gaming at it's...weirdest?

I am an infamous fan of weird, bizarre games. Knowing this, I picked up SM and played it. Whoo, was I in for an overload. You are the Messenger of Justice, a small meter-tall bi-colored robot in the shape of a young girl who needs to travel to the Edo system to repair it. Y'see, it turns out that Edo has malfunctioned big time, and mutated all of the inhabitants of this earth into either Silhouettes or Mirages. Luckily, Shyna is a bit of both, so she can zap both enemies. Of course, before you do the aforementioned zapping, you can also drain their Spirit (energy for using attacks) and use the Cash Bash, which is where Shyna picks up the enemy if possible and beats the cash out of them...WITH HER HAIR! Tell me that isn't cool.

The enemies are also incredibly strange--take for example, a giant butterfly woman with a vaccuum cleaner attached to her rear(Serah), a gender-switching nemesis with a sword/gun (Zohar), and the two rulers of the S and Ms (Hal and Megido). They both have incredibly long noses, but other than that are the opposites of each other; while Hal is brilliant and leans toward making his Guardian Angels (robotic bodyguards) to conquer his foes, Megido is incredibly violent and powerful and shows up more than a few times during the game.

Overall, this is an excellent game. If you find it anywhere, buy it on the spot. You won't regret it, believe you me. Everything from Nazo2unit's wonderful techno/rock/classical music to the old-school 2D graphics to the story, translation and gameplay is perfect. As Shyna would say, "Call me crazy, but as a general rule I don't purchase flora from giant homocidal flying fish!"

highly unique and dangerously addictive

Silhouette Mirage is the type of game the Playstation system has aching for. Unlike other action/platform titles, Silhoutte is an old-fashioned 2D side-scroller. Silhouette stands apart from other games with highly unique approach to fighting enemies. Play the game and you'll see what I mean. The only downside are the overly cute character designs, which are in an outrageously goofy anime style.

A wonderful, quirky throw-back

This game is extremely off-beat in a very Japanese manner, but it's still a bunch of fun. Treasure has created a great 2-D shooter that harkens back to the glory days of the Super Nintendo, and boy is it a blast to play. Not just a mindless button masher though, it makes you use your noggin and will make you come running back for more, despite the bizarre-giant-flying-flower-selling-fish-with-a-little-girls-head. A pretty [darn] good buy at it's current marked down price.

Some how addicting...

When I first played this game, I thought I'd hate it. Actually, I liked it. Graphics are decent for a 2D game, but let me tell you this. If you don't like side-scrolling games, annoying repeating phrases, having to read constant text and don't like fantasy games, don't get this game. The language is mild but they have some stuff reffering to other stuff, you know what I mean? Anyway, this game isn't for little kids because you really gotta use your head and think fast or else it might be too late! This is like an arcade-ish game. Rent it first or borrow it. You might like it.
