The game is very frustrating. With the default equipment you get tired very quickly with every character. I know they are trying to be realistic but realistically you would need a truck to carry half the basic set of equipment. You get tired just walking up a little hill and you walk extremely slow most of the time. The hunting areas are really small, it is like hunting in somebody's backyard. You can easily trap the animals against the hills and they run in circles until you kill them, which is not much of a challenge. You also have to wait for the game to load all the time. You walk just a few hundred feet and then have to wait for the LOADING..... To further add to the frustration, you frequently slide down the smallest hill and it says you are too injured to go on, and yes, you guessed it, more of that LOADING.... Also, if you walk or slip into the water you can't get out and guess what, yes, you guessed it again, LOADING.... Like if that was not enough, you will get in trouble for shooting near a building. You do it twice and, oh, the suspense is killing you, I know it.... LOADING..... ARRRGAHHH!!!! I could go on, and, well, I think I will. When you use the vehicles they are really hard to drive. Most of the time I get stuck in trees or drive off a cliff or into the water and LOADING.... They should change the name of this game to Cabela's LOADING.... All I wanted to do was some hunting. My final thought is RETURNING.....

SUCKS-WORST GAME EVER MADE!

I'm with that guy from Portland. This game is boring. And my opinion is it's TOO FREAKING HARD! Lets say your a mile away from a deer and as soon as your about to shoot it; it will run away. HOW REALISTIC IS THAT!? Like a real deer would see you that far away. Oh this is good, have you ever climbed up a hill to go sledding or something? Of course you have. Well THE HUNTER CAN'T EVEN MANAGE TO CLIMB ANYTHING SMALLER THAN THAT! The vehicles can't handle worth a crap, it's like driving a run-away wagon down a hill. And oh sure they may spot the deer for you with a red dot. TOO BAD YOU CAN'T GET TO THE DANG THING! Every time you find one you can never get to it because the moron can't even climb a hill if his life depended on it. Plus there's no cheats for this game which makes it even MORE worthless. What a rip-off.
They say you're supposed to wait for a deer. WELL I WAITED FOR THREE HOURS AND NOTHING CAME!!! And if I had a choice, I'd give it negative 5 stars. If you don't believe me go buy it for yourself and you can write a review like this...
You should buy DEER HUNTER by ATARI, that's a thousand times better.

Activision is writing the good reviews!

Don't be fooled by the long detailed and positive reviews. Donna Johnston from NY is listed in the credits of all the Cabela titles as the QA Lead. Why is she giving her review on the games she worked on which you see on every Cabela game? It looks like Activision is paying their employees to write reviews for them. This game has poor graphics and is tedious and boring. There are much better hunting games out there. Don't waste your money on their falsely advertized garbage.

DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!!

This is the worst game ever made! Not Realistic.. Boring, Boring,
Just a shame a good Deer Hunting Game isn't out there... I returned this game back to the store I got it from. Listen to the others who have written longer reviews on all the Cons of this game and DON'T BUY IT... You will be disappointed if you do.... PS... This only got the STAR because it wouldn't let me give ZERO STARS...

Best Wishes

Most realistic hunting sim around

I really like this one, although a lot of people are saying it is too hard.

You need to pick your hunter carefully, because each hunter type has stats - some are good at aiming, some are good at tracking, some are really strong. I think the other person who reviewed was having problems because he took a weak hunter and bought lots of heavy equipment!

Speaking of equipment, there's a wide selection of gear including stands, lures and decoys, which you have to use to actually hunt - this isn't a first person shooter with deer, it's actually a hunting game. You can (and should) sight your weapons at the target range, and it really makes a difference. Bow hunting is awesome, and very realistic, unlike some of the other sims out right now.

Overall - it's tricky till you get the hang of it, but very rewarding when you do.

Great Value, and I'm not even a hunter!

That's right - I've never hunted, and never really plan to - but I really did like this game, and it surprised the heck out of me!

Deer Hunt plays like a cross between Halo and Thief, and requires both strategy (your equipment, your scents and calls, clothing, the right gun, managing resources, etc) and quick fingers for those all-action moments. You'll spend most of your hunt tracking the deer you want through huge, amazingly detailed environments, setting up your equipment, and luring that perfect buck into your sights.

The controls are easy to learn, and there's even an alternate control set for us lefty's who like to game! I'd probably only have given it 4 stars, but the lefty-friendly thought pushes it up that final notch.

Great game for the money, no doubt about that.

Made in Romania!

Do they even have hunting or know anything about it in Romania? They cleary don't know much about it which explains why your run out of breath after five seconds in the game and have to walk painfully slow 90% of the time. Also you can walk around while you shoot which my dad would kick my ass for doing. It turns out Cabela's Big Game Hunter, Cabela's Deer Hunt 2004, and Cabela's Dangerous Hunts for the Playstation 2, Xbox, and PC versions are all made in Romania. No wonder Sunstrom, the originator of the game went out of business here in Indiana. I was so pissed I returned this pile of garbage. Any self respecting American should do the same, or not buy any of these games in the first place. You think they could at least make a hunting game in the states. I'm going to wait for Deer Hunter on the Playstaion 2 which is made in the good ole U.S.A. plus the PC version is way better than Cabela's.
