This game kicks a$$! My friend and I decided to rent it and we absolutely love it!I've played it for about two hours but I decided to buy it after the first 20 minutes! You CAN actually lift things AND people and THROW them around like rag dolls! Not to mention the graphics and the bodies DO NOT DISAPPEAR!

This game is a must buy for anyone who likes totally cool mind powers while keeping a game that is not a walk in the park to play!

Holy (...)!

Awesome game. Great mix of psionic powers and guns. Lots of "style points" available by using a mix of your powers to kill the enemies. It does remind me of the Jedi Knights series of games, but those were great, too. The mind drain power shows a head bursting animation reminiscent of the Scanners movies. Definitely well thought out and researched game.

This, my friends, is happiness

So I see this game at the video rental store and I decided to give it a try. It looked awesome, I loved Midway games, and I thought that the idea of using Psi powers was neat. So my friend and I pop it into my PS2, go to two-player cooperative mode...
...and were completely blown away.

This game is incredible. What could have been just another boring shoot-em-up game ended up being one of the best games I have ever played in my life thanks to this awesome idea of giving the main character psychic powers.

As you progress in the game, you regain your psi powers. The first you learn is telekinetic psi powers, which is the ability to PICK PEOPLE UP AND REPEATEDLY SLAM THEM AGAINST THE WALL! In the two-player coop mode, my friend and I took turns being either the person who controls Nick's body movements or the person who controls Nick's weapons and psi powers.

You want fun? Rent (I'm thinking about seriously purchasing this) Psi-Ops and invite a friend or a few buddies over to have a blast. This game is a really fun action game. Unlike games like Max Payne (which I own and like a lot) which tends to get a bit repetitive as you progress through the game, Psi-Ops has huge replay value because there are so many different ways to go through each mission. For example, you could go through the whole area blowing stuff up with your machine gun, or you could pick one of the guys up and throw them into another, then launch a gas container at them and watch them burn. Or, if you are quite far into the game, control their minds and make them kill each other.

What I also like about this game is the realism. Yes, I know that Psi powers aren't real (what do you take me for, an idiot?) but you carry only TWO weapons: a silenced pistol, and then a machine gun, but as you progress through the game, you can replace your machine gun with, let's say, an assault rifle or a shotgun. I like this realism, although it wouldn't be handy in any other game like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, where you NEED huge weapons that suddenly appear in your hand to blow stuff up.

All in all, this game is a definate rental and possibly a great purchasing deal (as long as it is packaged with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance). Now I have a question, and if you have the answer please tell me in a review on Amazon.com. How long is this "Psi-Ops with Mortal Kombat FREE" going to last? I would like to buy it at the end of the summer when I have a little more money...

Graphics = 5/5
Sound = 5/5 (not so much music though, which isn't a problem)
Story = 5/5 (pretty cool)
Gameplay = 5/5 (so much replay value!)
Price = 4/5 (as long as you get Deadly Alliance free!)

24/25. A must-have for any fan of fun games.

Just Played the demo and kicks @$$

I just got the demo and never even heard about this game really. But the demo changed my opinion totally. The physics in this game are amazing. I've never seen physics like this, there even better than Far Cry. Not sure how they pulled it off on the PS2.

I thought the premise was kinda of hocky but using the powers, especially telekinesis, is the only way to take advantage of the awesome physics. Other games it seems like tacked on but in the demo the physics is your main weapon. I'm not sure why I haven't heard anything about this game, I was totally blown away by the demo.

How many telekinetics do you know?

I have always been infatuated with "Psychic Powers." When I first got hint of this upcoming Midway title, I was enormously enthused I must say. Midway is the reknowned developer of the emmensely popular state-side Mortal Kombat games. I have read many previews of Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy and I feel that it is going to be a very fulfilling title from Midway. Put it this way...Everyone, mostly anyway, loves or at least enjoys the MK series, am I correct? So, we have this amazing game company branching away from the MK titles for a moment and developing an entirely new idea. What can go wrong? You control an agent who has been brainwashed to get through The Movement's forces until he can reunite with the US military (or something similar to that) and you have these really cool abilities. Telekinesis is one of them, pyrokinesis another, mind control another, aura viewing another, and remote viewing the final cap. What can be bad about all of this? Nothing in my opinon can go wrong with this game. But, undoubtedly there will be some who don't think it is "all that" and will bypass it on the store shelves, but be prepared folks, cuz this is going to be one KICKIN' GAME!!!!

Let me put this as simply as possible...this game is tight. I got the demo a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to put it down. The games story is about an agent,Nick, that has had his memery erased.
You get 5 psycic powers, 1 under consideration.Telekinesis, mind control, mind drain pyrokinesis, remote viewing, and aura view.
Each provide you with many ways to get past a problem. For example say there is a group of guards in a room. You could go in guns blasing, take control of one and have them kill each other,or you could light someone on fire and toss him into a large group. This adds a ton of replayablity.
Then there is the psi practice room which is incredibly addictive. You have unlimited heal, ammo, and psi energy.
Simply put this is an incredible game, with an incredible physics. I give it a 5 out of 5

Cry-Ops

To start, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy was an excellent game, no doubt. However, it had its flaws.

The Good News! Psi-Ops featured the unique element of psychic powers. For a while I wondered how this could ever work fluidly, but Midway executed it even more beautifully than I could have ever imagined. The HAVOK Physics Engine works extremely well in this game, and it makes pitching stuff around with Telekenisis extremely fun. There are a lot of special powers that are available for use. This includes, Telekenisis, Pyrokenisis, Mind Drain, Mind Control, Remote Viewing, and Aura View. I think I got them all....Each skill is extremely important for the completion of the game. No doubt you will have to use every skill in order to beat this game.

The way that it was designed, there are very few weapons to choose from. There are no grenades or molotovs, just your silenced pistol, and the option of 3 large weapons, either an assault rifle, a machine gun, or a shotgun. What was nice about this game is that it was focused around the use of Telekenisis (TK). If you try to run-and-gun your way through, you will fail every single time. There is very little that you can't manipulate with your TK. Pyrokenisis enables you to creat your own fire....so sweet. Mind Drain enables you to suck the mental energy from your oponents, dead or alive (if done alive, their heads will EXPLODE!!!!). Mind Control allows you to take over the mind of your opponent and manipulate them to your benefit. You can send them after their team mates or make them kill themselves. Remote viewing allows you to walk ahead of where you are, through doors and rocks, and see what lies ahead before your physical body even has to start to move in that direction. Aura View allows you to see elements of objects and people that you can't see normally. It also allows you to observe structural flaws, similarities in objects, hidden messages, weak minded oponents, and structural flaws.

As said before, each skill has its place, and it is up to you how you use them. This is a semi-stealth game, so the quiet skills usually work the best.

The Bad News.....this game has a seriously flawed camera system. Now I understand that maintaining sight of a floating object and the character may be difficult, but honestly, they could have done better. I don't know how often the character, Nick, disappeared and got shot because the crosshairs disappeared with him. This makes gameplay extremely difficult at times and it really bogs down the flow of play.

Probably the greatest flaw is the jumping system. It is almost impossible to jump on the most basic objects. The game tries to automate everything for you, and this only adds to devastating flaws. Imagine not being able to jump up on a table. You have to get a create or a barrel, climb on it, and then jump off of it or walk onto the table. This is unacceptable.

Also, some sections are just extremely frustrating. I know this is supposed to add a challenge, but for goodness sakes. When the graphics are not sharp enough to pick up an enemy in the distance and you can't find him in your crosshairs, this is a problem. Being shot and only being able to judge the location of the oponent by the flashing of the hit registry is just awful. This level of mediocrity shouldn't be around in such a wonderful game.

Finally, the story. What the heck was up with the Aura Beasts? I don't want to spoil the game for you, but be warned the section of the game ewith the Aura Beasts was by far one of the worst story moves ever. Just play it for yourself and find out.

Ok I'll stop cutting the game, but in order to get a true review, you must get message of both the good things and the bad.

As a 7 ish hour game, this may only be good as a rental. I fould no replay value in the game. But then again I got it for about 14 bucks. Something cool about the game is that as you advance, you unlock concept art. It's just nice to see the progression of character and creature design through the beginning phases. Also there are "evil garden gnomes" that unlock extra missions. Theses are pretty fun. Realize that this game really didn't sell initially, which is disappointing since there are seriously bad games that sold more than this. This game really was pretty good.....but I digress.

Yeah, rent it. If you like it, you'll love it. If you don't like it, you'll probably be ticked off that you even touched it. But the bottom line is that it was beautifully crafted with some flaws. It ended with a "TO BE CONTINUED" so hopefully in this possible sequel, Midway will have fixed these flaws.

A lot better than ESPionage mock up

I was part of the market research study Midway performed on the original mock up of ESPionage, the working title for this game. We played two levels, and saw the cut scenes and some ad ideas. Psi-Ops is much better than the demo (as it should be). The demo's controls were awkward, with the Psi powers controlled by the X, SQ, TR and CR buttons, and the actions were performed by the L and R buttons. Also, the Psi-powers and weapons were very difficult to control b/c their was no autoaim feature. Also, the camera didn't move, so you oftentimes you couldn't see where you or your enemies were. The finished game is a great action/stealth/sci-fi shooter. I just wish that a larger variey of weapons could be used, crisper control during telekenisis, and unlimited Psi-power. It's very fun to watch your enemies get thrown around like burning rag dolls. Good times.
