3.5 stars - the rebirth of two arcade classics!

Asteroids and Missile Command are indeed worthy of the title of "arcade classics." Through the course of the seventies and the early eighties, very few games were up to the incredibly high standards set by these games. Sure, the games are dated, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun! In the mid nineties, a number of Arcade Classics titles were released for the Game Boy, each one featuring two games each. The first title in this series was a cartridge featuring both Asteroids and Missile Command. Read on for my review of this package.

PROS:
-The gameplay stays true to the originals.
-Although the Game Boy (the classic one that these games were originally designed for) is black and white, these games look just fine with or without color. The "rendered" asteroids in Asteroids look very nice. Likewise, in Missile Command, the background features for major cities (like the Opera House in the Sydney stage) are a nice touch.
-The game is enhanced for the Super Game Boy adaptor. For those of you who own a Super Game Boy, this will be a nice touch.
-Unlike modern video games, these ones can be learned without having to read the instruction booklet several times over!

CONS:
-Obviously, the Game Boy control scheme is a little different from the arcade originals. It may take a little getting used to.
-As good as these games are, there is no denying that they are dated - SEVERELY dated.
-Missile Command's graphics pale in comparison to those of the original arcade version. Many of the background touches were removed.

OVERALL:
If you liked these games in the arcades, you're going to love playing portable versions of them on your Game Boy. Just be warned - these are virtually identical to the arcade originals, with VERY LITTLE improvements, so don't buy them expecting anything revolutionary. These are the games you played in the arcades, AS you played them in the arcades.
