Amusement Park Employees love this game!

Ok, this is a great game for any person that loves roller coasters. I've been an amusement park employee for years now and when the original RCT game came out, I was depressed that the operation of coasters wasn't close to real operation.

When RCT 2 came out, I was impressed with the idea of the block brakes that can now be added. I was able to build coasters that operated like the real coasters I operate in the real world. It's great.

The physics of the game are real, the operation is wonderful, and what you can do with this game is endless. I would definately recommend it to amusement park people that have always wanted to create their own park.

The fun on the game definately increases with the internet. There tons of sites out there that allow you to upload your own creations and download other peoples creations to compliment your park.

Good grief

We were looking forward to loving this game. We did love it the first three times we played it.

Then it quit working. Click the play button on the splash screen, and nothing happens. The other two buttons still work. But can't play the game.

Trying to play the game starts a task with a name that looks suspiciously like a Windows registry key, which hangs and locks up the CDROM drive, and eventually hangs the entire system (hard boot time -- ctrl-alt-del won't even unfreeze it). While we don't have a really new machine, our machine is comfortably above the minimum requirements for playing the game.

Uninstall the game (why not? maybe reinstalling will help, yes?).

Nope. It won't uninstall. There's some braindead message about an unknown error on an undefined group of files, or something like that.

Can't reinstall. The setup program assumes I still want to uninstall.

Good grief.

So, now, I'm really not looking forward to talking to tech support.

Even if it turns out to be simple and quick to fix, this is entirely unacceptable. The rct2 website ... doesn't help -- it seems they actually prefer a phone call, since they don't provide any help on the website.

The phone call, no big deal for most, is a problem for the hearing impaired (that would be me). I'll manage, but I'm one severely dissatisfied user at this point, and my 7-year-old son ("Mama, why don't you just fix it?) is even more so.

Good grief.

Yeah, sure, it looks like a terrific game. I'd love to have been able to give it 5 stars. Really. There's just this one little problem.

Good grief.

Beware of Infogrames

I bought a copy of RC 2 for my 11 year old son. It wouldn't install properly and after making the suggestion of "go find some other drivers", the tech support team said "tough luck".

My computer is less than a year old and is a DELL. The Infogrames guys just do not support their product.

Brilliant

The changes to this version of RCT are most impressive. I used to work at an amusment park (many years ago) and the new ways to design the rollercoasters is so very reaslistic that it is almost more of an actual engineering design program than a game. (One can now create block sections of track with safety brakes which is used on real rollercoasters to keep trains from coming near one another.) Yet, the game still allows a more simple level of play for those not interested in the more detailed design. Better graphics, smoother operation, less glitches....will most definitely become a best seller.

Landscaping features are the best

If you loved the landscaping features in RCT1 like I did, then RCT2 is for you! The new RCT2 has a scenario editor lets you create the most awesome landscapes, buildings, sceneries, themes and water features all without contraints of time or money! And what makes the possibilities endless is that by holding the shift key you can STACK those features one on top of the other, to your heart's content. Stack pieces of wall with windows. Float blocks as ceilings. Stack pipes on top of one another. I've spent every day since I bought the game (The day it came out)using the scenario editor; just making the most amazing parks for people to eventually build rides in. You can save your landscape as a file as you go along and then also save a scenario file with the landscape as the park. People will finally be able to share their creative parks with others! (You can also save a game as a scenario and choose which rides you want to keep in the scenario!)

Of course there are loads of additional rides and coasters to choose from. Every scenario is available from the beginning, so there is no frustration of having to solve one to get to another. Cool new mini animations from some of the scenery themes. Easier coaster maker. (gets rid of trees automatically and lets you build higher coasters)

Once you learn how to stack scenery in the scenario editor, you'll be landscaping for days!!

A definate buy for those who love the landscaping & scenery part of RCT. The feel is the same as RCT1. (Smoother looking in places though) So if you buy it expecting that and not some major overhaul, then you'll be happy. And if you wait, I guarantee there will be more scenarios and parks to explore that others have created and posted on the web. We'll see the scenarios that come with this new version pale in comparison to what you come up with!!

Fun, but disapointing

I am a major RCT junkie, but i am a bit dissapointed with RCT2. It is a fun game, but it doesn't feature many improvments from the origional (and there were a lot of things that could have used some improving). The graphics are the same, the handymen are just as stupid and still get stuck, you can still only view from 4 different angles, and they removed the ability to play it in a window on you desktop (or at least I havn't seen how yet).

On the plus side, they've added some new rides, new shops, and new ways of adding scenery. One nice feature is the ability to build shops/bathrooms above another path or water.

Overall, this is a fun game (as was the origional). But don't expect too many new and exciting features. This game is really more like an expansion to the origional RCT. But hey, ... I guess I can't complain

Not Worth It

I really don't think this game is worth buying. For one main reason, you cannot use your saved games from RCT1 which just doesn't seem right and secondly, there aren't very many scenarios. The graphics do however look better and the game runs more smoothly. I like the new themes as well, but it isn't much fun if you can't use the old scenarios and saved games from RCT1. If anyone found a way to use your saved games and old scenarios, then email me please!

What ARE you talking about? This is a great game

Okay, so this game may lack graphical improvments and what-not, but any well expierinaced gamer all knows the same thing, "WHO CARES ABOUT GRAPHICS?" Seriously, the graphics were already outdated in the original RCT and it was one of the best games of the year, and still is one of the mosr addicting and involving games ever. This new one takes the original to a new level, maybe not graphiclly, but in many other features, including making custom scenarios, having unlimited money to make any sort of ride in build mode, completley editing yor coaster with cusom parts, you name it, along with tons of ultra fancy added features. This game rocks, even though it is kind've a expansion pack, it is very entertaining and I think that graphics have nothing to do with gameplay, proving that this is a great game.

ehh....Could have been much better

Well, I played Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and couldnt get enough of it. The game play in the Roller Coaster Tycoon series has a feel to it much like any simulation game in that you must try your best to keep some form of balance working in the place you are given. Building Coasters and then watching people ride them alone with trying to keep your park clean and full of other rides, attractions, and shops keeps you glued to the screen for hours.

That being said, this game really is not much improvement on the first one. The graphics are now even more dated then ever. You cant get a very big close up on the people in the park and that makes things a bit more dull. Also, the only real improvements I can see is the new scenery (which doesnt make much difference in the park rating) and the fact that some of the rides are based on rides from Six Flags.

One problem is that if your park has been designated as a pay-at-the-door park, you can not charge a dime for the rides, even if you want to. And as stated before, The graphics of the game play has not changed at all, which makes the game seem like more of an expansion pack to Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 then it does a new game.

So in closing, While the game isnt that great, if you have twenty bucks to blow and are as addicted to the first one as I am, go ahead and get it. Otherwise, dont bother. I am curious to see if Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (if they make one) will be more entertaining then this game.

This is NOT a sequel, more like an OVERHYPED EXPANSION game

Just a word of warning for anyone expecting a completely new game. Before you pre-order this title, take a look at the screenshots for the new game. You can find some on the company's website or any PC game review website. The sequel looks EXACTLY like the original game. They've altered the roller coaster design features a little and inserted a few different rides but overall, this game is almost a carbon copy of the first one. If you enjoyed Corkscrew Follies and the other expansion game, this game is for you as all it really is is more maps and a few more rides but if you're expecting something different (which I always do with sequels) you're going to be horribly disappointed. Even the graphics engine is still the same. This game is primarily meant to cash in on one of the most popular game series ever.
