A Demolition Derby and Goldeneye-like Shoot-em-up All-In-One

When we got our Playstation one of the first games we got was Vigilante 8, just because it looked like dumb fun. We got fun alright, but it was anything but dumb. In this game you have an incredible arsenal of weapons to strap onto the back of your Corvette, school bus, or even flying saucer, the more weapons, the more damage to others(of course). You can play with only two players but that limitation is quicly made up with advantages. You're able to do missions as 12 out of the 13 characters, each of which has their own crazy persona. You have the disco idiot, the pyrotechnic guy, a cyborg lady, a man in seacrh of aliens, and a gambler. Each has their own car/truck/saucer with limitations and advantages. Other than missions, you can play single-player skirmish against up to four computer opponents (you can set the computer to come back after it get killed for up to three times). Also, you can do a two player skirmish, competitively in a one-on-one, or sooporatively against up to three opponents. As far as actual game play and control is concerned, the animation is just a little choppy at times, but it really isn't distracting at all. The controls are completely customizable, so you can set up different weapons on different buttons. On the topic of weapons, each character has the ability to have up to three weapons on their car at a time, each has access to picking up about a dozen or so weapons, and then each character has their own personal "special" weapon that the others can't have. the disco idiot has a disco ball that shoots lasers, a bee handler as radioactive bees that he sics on the opponent, and pyro has a turret that shoots fireballs. Oh, also, as you progress through the missions, you unlock up to five new characters and two new scenarios. The scenarios are great because they have specials of their own. For example, if you knock over a windmill on the farm level, the blade at the top flies at whoever you have targeted and damages them. If you blow up the grain silos, they go nuclear. You can ride in ski lifts on the ski slope level, go in the blimp on the Las Vegas like city, do almost any zany thing you can think of! There is no blood in the game as you are only blowing up cars. This game is one that can be played universally as just a fun all around game. THIS GAME IS A MUST-HAVE!

Great two player action

This is one of my favorite Playstation titles. If you can master the handling of the flying saucer you'll have a blast! They should release a version with flying saucers on the attack as well, but you can only get that in the 2 player mode - head to head. The environmental effects are great. Knock towers over, smash buildings, make a train run off a cliff by blowing-up the bridge, get caught in tornados, avalanches, etc. It's a blast to navigate through.

Weapons are great. Next version should be KILLER!

Blows Twisted Metal (any version) out of the universe by a mile.

I never thought GT2 and Madden 2001 would be out of my playstation this much. Vigilante 8 does just that. I didn't believe I would ever play another shoot-em up type of game but this one has been very well done. Its a 2 player versus each other or play missions to open new cars. Excellent game, especially at the price.

EXCELLENT!!!!

This game is beyond fun. So far beyond, I can't describe it. It's so cool to play two player, and there is a way to play invinsible! I won't tell you, so as not to spoil the fun, but if you want to know the code, go to www.cheatplanet.com and they should have it. If they don't, go to www.cheatingdome.com and they probably have the code. My personal favorite player is Beezwax, (they annoyingly got rid of him in the sequal) and my friend's favorite is Dave (the alien guy, they got rid of him next year, but instead they put in Dave's Cultsmen). So if you are wondering whether or not to get this, you had better get it, because when you do, you'll love it. And you had better get the second one, Vigilante 8: Second Offense. You'll love it to!

Fun, Fun, Fun until your Daddy takes your T-Bird Away.

I got hooked on Vigilante 8 while in college. We used to play this game over and over at a friend's apartment. I think the best thing about this game is the two-player mode. You can go one-on-one against someone in versus or team up and pick your scene and your challengers. The one person mode also has a quest. There's a wide range of vehicles to choose from and each vehicle has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. If you select this option, you can unlock five other chracters and two different scenes. Once you beat a level, a short clip is shown. Some of them tie together and some of them don't and some of them are just fun to watch. When you're a part of the Vigilantes (the good guys) the missions are a little harder. However, when you're a Coyote (the bad guys) the missions are much easier because instead of protecting property, your bent on destroying it. Overall, Vigilante 8 is a really fun game to play, especially with a friend.

V8 is simply the best! The levels are awsome, the wepons and cars are hard-core. A must have for the adventures type. V8 blows away all Twisted Metal games by far!

The game itself is absolutely great. Multiplayer is great if you have a friend that loves it too, because you can play it for hours on end like I did. Of course, the single player mode can get a bit boring, but it's always fun just to come back and play it over and over. The graphics are great and the learning curve is about ten minutes. The cars are easy to control, they have great special, and there are some real great characters. Five outa five.
