Namco does it again! again!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 7

Bringing out another 6 titles, Namco continues its 5 CD roll (N-A-M-C-O). Super Pac-Man plays almost exactly like the arcade version, right down to the dipswitch settings. [I owned the arcade game itself for 6 months, so I know what I'm talking about here.] Mappy is a cute little game about a mouse trying to recover department-store style items from a group of cats. Xevious is mostly a plane/war style game that uses overhead bombs as its main strategy. Grobda, its sequel, deals with the "enemy" tank (the one you have to blow up in Xevious); it's now your ally against fortified enemy arsenals. Gaplus is the 3rd & final installment in the Galaxian trilogy (that game is in Volume 3)...this time, you can actually capture the enemy (up to 5) with a special item and use them against themselves! Dragon Buster, one of the first RPGs, is the classic save-the-princess story retold in arcade form. If you like classic video games, you should definitely check this one out!

Super Pac Man not the only hit

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 5

This is volume 2 of the five volume set of Namco arcade classics. It includes: Super Pac Man, Xeviuos, Mappy, Gaplus, Grobda, and Dragon Buster. Super Pac-Man is the best of these for those that remember it. Xevious was a great space based shoot-em-up that can be very addictive. However, Grobda was the worst of this lot, just another dungeon crawl with unappealing graphics. If you can find a copy, it might be worth a play or two to relive the classics, especially Super Pac-Man. However, it is =very= hard to get and considered collectible.

Great Collection of Games from years past

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4

Hi all,

Knowing this collection of Namco games was rather rare, I was fortunate to find this game on Amazon being sold by someone for a VERY reasonable price.

The collection is a trip back in time for all including the games: Super Pac-Man, Xevious, Mappy, Grobda, Dragon Buster, and Gaplus.

My personal favorites are Super Pac-Man, Gaplus and Mappy (three well known games). Xevious should be fairly well known as well though I am not sure of Grobda and Dragon Buster. I personally have never heard of them before seeing this collection.

Super Pac-Man, Gaplus, Mappy and Xevious are basically the original arcade versions and play like it. The other two, as I am unfamiliar with them, are more difficult to rate, though they ARE decent games to play.

The one negative with this collection is the relatively slow load times between switching games. One annoying thing (and not the fault of the game) is the inability of the game to use the PS2 analog controller forcing me to use the directional controls.

But the game is still worth a buy if you can track it down!
