Awesome Football

This is a great football game in every way possible. It out does all the other Fifa's put together. First Graphics are excellent superb lighting super realistic facial ngarphics kits and stadiums are authentic. Two ameplay much more realistic and energetic no more half way line goals like Fifa 2002 and no more magical bicycle kicks the game bring you down to earth after being an immortal. Players actually get injured for months instead of days. The New carrer mode is wonderful with new transfer market and more control then other footballing games. The practice mode is really well shaped and fun. Commentating well its good but they say pretty much the same thing each match. The computer responds to situations much more realisticly which makes the game interesting. Finally you actually get to jostle for space which is wonderful push your opponents down too the ground. Corner kicks are much more squeeze your way passed defenders and push them a little to the side to get a good chance to score. Free Kicks are pretty much the same. All in all tyhe is the best footballing game ever and should be bought before any other football game.

Craptastic game

The controls in this game suck. The AI acts in a premeditative manner in order to 'restore' the balance -- i.e., a team (played by CPU) perceived to be superior, but losing by several goals will equalize in the last few minutes, even if that can only be obtained by disabling and overriding user commands. It is obvious, as the gameplay slows down discernibly and the graphics turn choppy. This takes away all the pleasure from the game.

The general breakdown of commands happens throughout the game, of course. There are few options and the 'off the ball' moves do not work consistently, even if you follow the instructions.
This game is an insult to game designers and gamers alike. I would say skip this game, unless it is available for free and you only care about graphics.

the best ea has to offer!!!!

albeit you can't form any tournaments as in its predecessor, this game is still worth the purchase. there are those complaining about how the transfer market doesn't allow you to aquire top talent (i had 13 million or so with psg and players like beckham will you cost you around 34 million), but this isn't much of a problem considering that you can edit rosters before starting your career. thus, i brought over viera, henry and zidane (perhaps my performance didn't merit such quality but it's only a game). as far as the difficulty goes it isn't too imposing as you can sharpen your skills (with edited rosters) in the practice mode. this game does require you to actually incorporate other players on the field, you can't just run around with one player in the hope of finding a opening.

just above the bar...

I waited, and waited for this game, I finally
collapsed and dropped 50$ American for it. And
the conclusion... let down! Fifa 2003 was alright,
it could have used sometweaking, but this game is
like a complete step backwards. The game play is
slow and the controls take some time to get used to.
The tournament mode has no world cup,or iunternational cup;
and the graphics are almost worst that in 2003.
The 2003 graphics were pretty dope, but in this version
dudes with dreads just get long hair, that looks like one
waxy peice, and most players have the same face, and
the camera options arent as good as 2003.
The game isnt horrible, but save your hard earned cash
and buy winning 11.

FIFA 2004 was better than FIFA 2003 with no doubt. However, there is no World Cup in the tournaments which is pretty weak! EA Sports should add Holland and Japan to the national league. Otherwise, good graphics, alright gameplay, awesome career mode!

Very Good BUT!!!!..........

I agree with the previous review on all points but no one has mentioned the goal score replays are way to short, sometimes not even showing them at all!! I've even had a few instances were I would score a goal and get a replay of the action happening at the OTHER END OF THE FIELD??!!!? I feel like returning this defective game back to EA for a refund!!

Much improved.

Since the last Fifa game, EA has improved the most important aspect which was the game play. The new controls to enable players off the ball to move and make runs add so much to the game. As a single player you can play like you were in a multi-player environment.
Other points of improvement are the the realistic graphic details and the goal celebrations add so much realism to the game.
As many other reviewers I use to own Winning Eleven, although Fifa 2004 has almost all the teams and players that I read about then can play them on the screen adds another dimension of realism to the game.
Enjoy the game it is worth playing until the next version comes out.

Not a bad game...but not a good one

FIFA 2004 has some serious flaws no matter what your gaming preference might be. It's a hybrid between a soccer management game and a regular sports game.

The soccer managment side is okay. You can set team training and individual player training each week and every dip into the transfer market takes both $ and prestige points, the latter you lose whether the player and his team accepts your transfer offer or not. So it gives you something to think about. But it's not nearly as interesting as exciting as Championship Manager, mostly because this is supposed to be an arcade-type game, right?

But the gameplay is lacking in FIFA 2004. Dramatically. The new off-the-ball movement that EA is so excited about works...sort of. It works if the opposition gives you the time to grab a second player and move him while the primary player, who you also control, moves down the field. If it sounds like you're trying to do two things at once, you're right. You need to have perfect timing to pull it off successfully and the Professional skill level doesn't allow you the time, I've found.

Add to that dodgy fouls, the fact that defenders can close practically any gap on any player (ie no break aways), and that shots 30 yds out are easier to convert than shots inside the box and you've got a flawed, flawed game.

If EA wants to get into the management side of things they should release a new title. I don't regret buying the game because it's an interesting twist, but I see myself either popping in FIFA 2003 or buying Winning Eleven if I want a good old fashion soccer simulation game, 'cause this ain't it.

Pretty Good!!!

OK, i'm not one to jump on any bandwagon but I have to agree with alot of people in saying that KONOMI'S Winning Eleven series just beats out EA SPORTS and has the better footbol (or Futbol, that is) game. Thats not to say that Fifa should be easily passed by. I found the game actually pretty good and realistic to the game. The new controls are a little confusing and sometimes dont work in my opinion. Graphics are great as usual, and so is the sound. But Winning Eleven 6 just has the edge though with exciting quick matches, great on-the-pitch gameplay and endless options. Fifa 2004 is good but Winning Eleven comes out on top still.

Excellent
