Fun, albeit empty, side scrolling with Lara Croft

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 3
Date: December 20, 2006

Buxom adventurer Lara Croft makes a somewhat triumphant return to the GBA with Tomb Raider: Legend, which like many titles has been transformed into a side scrolling romp. The first thing you'll notice is that the game looks very sharp, especially for a GBA side scroller. Lara herself is very nicely animated, and the environments and terrains look good as well. The platforming and gunplay elements are almost the same as the console versions, which is surprising as well, and the puzzle elements peppered throughout are challenging as well. There's a few motorcycle based areas as well to spice up the gameplay, which will become somewhat stagnant as you progress through the eight surprisingly massive levels. The biggest drawback of Tomb Raider: Legend is that you can't really explore the 2-D side scrolling levels, which is the whole point of a Tomb Raider game. That's what really hurts the overall package, but Tomb Raider: Legend is still a more than solid GBA game that is definitely worth checking out for those still holding on to their GBA's.
