Good only if you have not played the DC version

This was a really fun game on the Dreamcast back when it came out, and it's gonna be pretty much the exact same thing on GameCube, with graphics just a little bit better. But if you already have it on Dreamcast, there is no reason to spend 50 bucks on a game you already have. If you have not played it, I suggest getting it because it's pretty fun, especially if you have friends over and you can see who gets more money.

A little about the game itself- the game is based on driving a taxi around a city (there are two huge San Francisco type cities to choose from) and go around, getting customers for your taxi. Choose from 4 drivers, each with their own car things that they'll say like "Hop in" or "Hey, what's up!"
Once you get your customer, they'll tell you where they wanna go and then there will be a little arrow telling you directions. Get them to their destination within a certain time and you will get paid an extra tip, and if you don't make it in time or have a slow time you won't get quite as much money. You'll do that for a preset time (5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc) or you can play arcade mode where you get more time when you get more customers.

The gameplay in this game is what makes it great- the controls are just awesome. Driving around is easy to learn yet challenging to master because there are special moves that you learn like the crazy spin I believe it's called where you can turn really fast and easy.

Some of us did miss this game the first time

Crazy Taxi is a whole lot of fun, and if you never bought a Dreamcast--as many of us didn't, including me--this is your chance to own the best arcade racer in years, with slightly improved graphics. What I like best about it is that it's oldschool arcade-style play: there's no end and no goal, except to rack up the highest score (the most money) that you possibly can. If you're a fan of wild arcade-style racing, don't hesitate to buy this game!

Hop in and let's go! It's Crazy Taxi!

For the people who didn't get it for the Sega Dreamcast can now get their hands on it. It's true that it is only a remake of an old classic and there isn't anything new but if you never played it like me it's a wonderful game. The point of the game is picking up passengers and taking them where they want to go. As for your cabbies you get 4 fearless drivers to choose from. Axel,a slick young driver whose ready for anything! B.D. Joe,a fast party loving hip hop driver! Gena,a hot cool girl who loves the open road. Gus,a old yet ready to go driver with keen looks and attitude! As for the cities you drive through they present huge challenges and many people to pick up. The cities are like Los Angelos and San Franciso complete with beachs, malls, heavy traffic and even cable cars litter the streets making your job harder as you drive through the crowed city! Your passengers that you pick up will want to go anywhere from Kentucky Fried Chicken to the City Bank and the passengers have attitudes of their own too! But aside from the to huge cities and it's residents the point of the game is collect as many fares as you can and get your passengers to their destionation points as soon as possible. Don't worry! No cops will be on your tail so ram into cars and drive wherever you want so you can give your passenger a good time while collecting tips for the craziest stunts you can perform on your way to their dropoff point. It's easy to learn and easy to master. No brains needed. Crazy Taxi may be old but it's still alot of fun!

A hard game not to like. But it gets old fast.

Crazy Taxi is nothing more than it seems, a simply fun game. There are no real missions, no complex plot twists, no real story, just you and the open road...oh, and your customers.

The object of the game is to pick up and drop off as many people in as little time as possible, often easier said than done. You can choose between four different driver, which are different in personality, but the same in driving skills. It really makes no difference which one you choose. The controls take a bit of getting used to, and unlike most driving games, the "A" button is not the gas pedal. Instead the "R" button is the gas, and the "L" button is the breaks.

Graphically, this is a great game. The city is nicely detailed, and there is a wide variety of people, places, cars, and people at large. In the sound department, the game also has the edge. The car, street, and voices are all nicely done, and the music suits the game perfectly. What it lacks is variety, which means that you will be hearing the Offspring's "All I Want" twice in the same game.

The flaws in this game come purely from the lack of variety. There is only one city, four drivers, the same passengers, the same four songs played over and over again. There is also no multiplayer mode. The list goes on. But keep in mind that that Crazy Taxi is not meant to be played for hours on end, it is a fun, wild, and wickedly enjoyable game. I would not recommend it to people who favor long, mission-based drivers, for them I would recommend "Grand Theft Auto 3". For others who just want a bit of fun, this is your game. It is fun, but will get old fast and is unlikely to have a long life in your video game collection.

Initial Crazy excitement dies down a bit after a while

This is "The Fast and The Furious" if it were set as Taxi drivers. No hidden agendas here - simply drive fast fast fast to earn as many fares as possible. The faster and crazier the driving - the better. Slow down and obey the traffic rules means "Game Over" in a hurry.

The object of the game is very straight forward - pick up and drop off as many people in as little time as possible. Passengers are color coded for "easy" destinations to "difficult" destinations. You can choose from 4 drivers who vary only by personality. The skill and determination is all up to the game player. As some other review noted, the controls take a bit of getting used to. The "A" button is not the gas pedal - the "R" button is, and the "L" button is the brakes.

Visually, this is an exceptional game. The city is nicely detailed, the sound effects are excellent, and the game effects are excellent.

What takes some time to learn is how to properly "drive" the game inorder to win, or not lose as quickly as you will the first 20 or so times you try the game. Once you really get into this game, it's a lot of fun and challenging.

The negative - the game gets too familiar and comfortable after a while. There are only 2 cities to choose from (arcade version and the "original" game version), so there is challenge in memorizing the extensive layout of both, but after that it's a little repetative. There are only 4 drivers that vary only in personality, not skill or effects or anything. You get used to the same revolving set of passengers after a while.

Overall, if you're looking for a game that you can devote 30 minutes to at a crack and not be disappointed - this is the one. If you're looking for a long extensive intricate game, this isn't the one.

A great game (for a while)

Crazy Taxi is a great game, but tends to get old quickly.

You can go for a 3, 5 or 10 minute run. Your goal is to drive around the city and pick up as many customers as you can. You can also play in Arcade Mode, where you start out with 50 seconds and get time bonuses for delivering customers to their destination. A cool thing about the game is that the customers ask to go to real places like the Levi's Store, Pizza Hut, Tower Records and more. If you don't get the customers to their destination in time, they yell at you and jump out of the car which is pretty funny.

However, since there is only one city the game gets boring and repetitive after about a while. But if you take a little break in between each run it doesn't get boring as quickly.

But this game is still really fun and a good purchase. If you are new to the Gamecube, I would recommened buying games like Super Smash Brothers Melee, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Metroid Prime and Animal Crossing before getting Crazy Taxi. It makes a better "secondary" game that a main one in your collection, but is still great for some occasional fun.

Actually I'm not a "true" gamer & found this game tedious.

I actually purchased the system as a present for my brother, but until I get it to him for X-Mas I've been going to my local video store and renting games . I rented this on a 5 day rental plan, and I returned it early because I was bored with it quickly. And as I said, I'm not a gamer, so that might say a lot, as the lack of additional cities and drivers, and car options made me bored quite quickly. And what was the point with the license?? No indication if the player receives any extras for earning a top notch license.
Loved Rogue Squadron, Super Monkey Ball, and Wave Race, as all of these were quite challenging and kept me captivated. So much so, that I almost returned them late. My suggestion is to simply do what I did - rent it, and save your money for a game that will keep your attention for a longer period of time.

Crazy Taxi is by far one of the best video games I've ever played. The sountrack, gameplay, and replay value are insane! There are only 2 levels, but it is still fun to play over and over and over again! Basically, the objective is to drive around and take customers to the place they want to go. Boring, right? Wrong! Drive as crazy as you like, from crashing into cars to jumping over stuff, or just driving all around crazy! If you don't make it to the customer's destination in time, they'll jump out of the car, which is pretty funny. There are four drivers, and they all have one heck of an attitude. My personal fav is Gus. He's old, but he always plays it cool. Many people think S is the best license you can get, but after that it's awesome and after that it's crazy. There are three modes, arcade, original, and crazy box. Arcade and original are basically the same, except the course on which you play. Crazy Box is a series of minigames. Overall, This Game rules! Unless you've already bought it, buy it now while you can. Despite all the bad reviews For this game, it rocks and you should buy it. Nintendo rules!

Fun game, but disappointing content

I bought Crazy Taxi because I loved playing it in the arcade. I wasn't disappointed in the gameplay. This isn't my primary game, but fun to play every so often for a while.
However, I'm really disappointed in the language for this game. Mine came with a well-deserved Teen rating. There was no need for that type of language in the game. This game would otherwise be perfectly suitable and fun for my kindergarten-aged son to play, but the language makes me want to throw the game away.
