The only good thing about this stupid game is one-player mode. When i played multiplayer mode i expected it to be first person. Everything is so dang tiny!! PLus the boards are really tiny too!

*Yawn* I've had more fun watching paint dry...

I haven't played many "Customizable Fighting Robot" games, but if most are like this, it may very well be the last.
Custom Robo suffers from the same curse that plagued the last two Nintendo platforms; this game, along with so may others, is geared mainly for kids.
Basically, you fight battles with miniature robots that pop out of small cubes (Pokemon, anyone?), gaining new weapons, robots and other accessories as you advance through the 'story' mode. The dialogue is boring and pointless, and the claims of this game being an Action/RPG title are wildly inaccurate. You walk from point A to point B, enter a battle, and repeat. Even though the battles are kind of fun, the camera view of the holosseum is too far away, making a 4 player game a complete nightmare, let alone one-on-one. If Noise had a taken a more serious approach to this concept, it would have been great; similiar to Mech Warrior, or BattleTech. But as it stands, it's barely worth renting. Worst of all, I'm out fifty bucks...

Mis-led Gamer

When I first saw the description and the reviews of this game, it sounded awesome. But, being the cautious type, I first rented it. It is pretty monotonous in the fact you get up every morning and the landlady yells at you to go to work. then you go there and get an assingment. After every battle you're in, you get a new part, but you never get those "illegal" parts you heard were so awesome. Once you beat Rahu, there is Not much to do.
This is not a challenging game; and, in my opinion, is not worth $40 for a game that takes you 6 hrs. to beat. If you want a nice, easy game for one weekend, this is your game to RENT. If you want a challenging game, get something else.

The game is fun...but the story mode is lacking at points

Fisrt off let me say that this game is a lot of fun for a group of buddies to blast the heck out of each other. The controls and camera could certainly be better, but it's good mindless "shoot em up" fun. The single player story mode falls a bit short in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the actual story is good, but I prefer more actual choices. Any deviation from where the story wants you to go (like wandering around rather than going straight home) ends up being just a waste of time. There are also very frustrating situations where you are REQUIRED to talk to each and every person in the area before the story will advance (Including 2 characters who's entire words of wisdom are that they aren't important enough to even have names.) I prefer more choice in my adventure games, even if I am still having fun. This is more of an RPG on rails and it falls short of being a truly awesome game. Hopefully we'll get a sequal that lives up to its potential because the game really is a lot of fun otherwise.

No Halo 2, but... well...

Custom Robo did it's part in delivering good gameplay. Well when I say gameplay, I means pressing 'b' over and over and over again. It's pretty fun. THe fault? storyline! You are a bounty hunter... well sorta, not really. you join the police force and figure out about this evil robot thing. Then you kill it. WHoever came up with this wasn't very creative! I'd rather watch beethoven's 6th symphony than go throught this story! Rent it, and save yourself some money. The story in crap. If you are a custom robo fan-boy and would like to complain to me, email me at ptalen@charter.net. and for the love of god use spell check...

Its a good game to get but it gets a bit repetitive.
I like this game because as u continue u get some real cool stuff it also is kinda funny and actually teaches a little bit about what could happen to the world if we dont learn from history.

When I first started playing this game I wasn't impressed. Not until I started playing the "ultra" cheesy story mode. Its silly but the battles make up for the sillyness. Its old school arcade action in which you battle it out with other robots. the best part is finding new parts for the robos in which you can inflict more damage on robos or move quicker to avoid damage. The story mode might get old for some gamers but after you beat that you unlock "arcade mode" which then turns it into a straight "fighter". The two player mode isnt too shabby either, but you have to unlock parts by playing story mode. All in all its a very fun and entertaining game that looks to be made for the younger crowd but it pleases on both levels. younger kids will enjoy the silly story and will be challenged or frustrated by the battles, depending on the kid. The adults will enjoy the battles as cusomization can be quick victory or embarassing defeat. If you like old school fast paced arcade action then this game is for you! Is it a good party game? yes if you spend time in story mode. Its not a game that comes with everything on the table. You have to work for the extra stuff. That can determine whether you buy this game or not. I hope this sheds some light when deciding whether to purchase Custom Robo or not!

Good but has some flaws

Custom robo is a great game, and is well worth getting!
The graphics are good, and the idea is good but there are flaws.
Though there are 200+ parts and 3500+ combos of robots you have to go unlock the parts in the short and rather boring story mode. The story is simple, your a teen and you are going to become a custom robo commander in the will of your father. to advance you beat a bad guy, talk to the peoson who rewards you for beating the guy, get the part, and go to sleep, and wake up the next day to do the same thing over and over again. Once you do beat the story mode and get the parts, you get to the good part, the battles, use the bodies, guns, bombs, jetpack, leg boosters, to make a robot you like. Battle itself looks simple at first, but looks can be deceving. you must use the stadium offencively and defenceively, some weopans are stronger, others faster, knock enemie robots down, or evenfloat above them and strike when the enemie is still. The stadiums are good and move around at times, some of them go up and down, many have hazards, some even are as creative and a play room with a choo choo train.

OVERALL

-gameplay- story 5 rest 9.5
-graphics- 6-9 out of 10
-options- (15 things to do) 10
-sound- 8
-customization- i mean come on! 3500+ possible combos that like 20 out of 10! A kid can make a cute robot, an adult can make a hell fighter, be creative!
-fun- 10
-plot- 6-8 its good

DONT LISTEN TO THOSE (...) WHO SAY THIS GAME IS HORRIBLE! THEY PROBABLY DONT EVEN HAVE A GAMECUBE! This game is well worth playing, rent it, if you dont like it then dont get it...

Good old fashioned RPG fun -Mech Style!

This game is even better than I expected it to be. It was underrated by video game magazines, probably because it's kind of "old school". What I mean is that there are no voice actors, all the characters speak only in message boxes with pictures of their faces beside them showing various expressions; just like in Grandia. I think that's actually fun! Grandia (the first one) would have been better with no voice actors because the voices were bad!

In this game, you can customize your fighter from the body armor type to the sorts of weapons and legs, each giving you different abilities based on how you like to fight. I'll admit that I really got addicted to that sort of customization ever since Final Fantasy Tactics.

The story of this game impressed me too. All the characters are really fun, including the NPCs, and there's some great manga/anime style humor all throughout the game. The only thing that would have made the game better is if it were a little longer and the story were not as linear; but I could say the same thing about MOST RPGs!

I highly recommend Custom Robo!
