A great remake

Honestly I've had the Twin Snakes for over 2 years and beaten it a couple times. I also have and beaten the original one on PSX atleast 5 times. With that said this version is very similar to the original game. The main differences that come to mind are that you can use 1st person view when shooting any gun. That alone makes the game much easier than the original. Another thing is that you have a silent tranquilizer gun like in MGS2. That can be pretty useful at times also. Last the graphics are very improved for the most part. They're just as good if not better than MGS2 or Snake Eater.
The only things that bother me though is that the cutscenes are a bit different. Also some of the voices are a bit off on a some of the characters. The controls take some getting used to, but they are still good. But with that said the game is still very solid. The game is still very action packed like the original Playstation version.
So in short, this game is pretty much like playing Metal Gear Solid with the graphics and controls of Metal Gear Solid 2. Unless you're very anal about little meaningless details that you fell in love with concerning the original game, I highly recommend it if you have a Gamecube or Wii.

Love the original masterpiece - I just wish I could say the same thing about Twin Snakes.

Let's face it - Twin Snakes blows. Anyone who says it's good is totally lying to themselves or has not played the original MGS1 for PS1.

A majority of the cut-scenes were unnecessary and really stupid. Snake does some super-human moves that just ridiculous - this isn't The Matrix or some Steven Seagal movie.

Good but.

This is a remake and is a mixed bag compared to the masterpiece of the PSX one, sure it looks better and plays a bit better its still clunky in controls the new dialog is..well...so so but what I hate the most is the music....they took a wonderful score and raped and battered it to match modern crap cinma.

Don't get me wrong its a solid game and the gameplay is a improvement but the first game had more charm..

not as good as the 1st

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is Nintendo's first foray into the MGS series. (Note: The first Metal Gear game was on the NES, though.) Those who have not experienced MGS before should play this game immediately - Metal Gear's brand of stealth action is unmatched in any other series of games. For those who are familiar with the original, the game offers little new content. Mostly, the cinematics have changed a bit, and the controls and enemy AI have been brought up to MGS2 standards. The graphics are also noticibly better, although they do look a bit muddy compared to the PS2 Metal Gear Solid 2, and it certainly doesn't take full advantage of the GameCube's power. Also, the controls feel a little oversensitive compared to the PS2 controls.
Also note that although the back of the case says that this game is a blend of Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2, it is only a remake of the former. It involves the controls and abilities of the second game, but it does not include it.
Metal Gear fans can't do without this game. Neither can those Nintendo fans who haven't experienced this yet. That's it.

bad REmake...

The REmake of the Original Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 wasn't supposed to be bad if it weren't for the bad Voice acting and redone music.

the feel of thrill was gone when you first hear the music when Snake rides the Elevator to the Surface. Boos Fight music has gone...boring and excitement was gone. the PS1 version my have "Limited" capabilities, but the REAl action is in THERE!

disappointed

I found the packaging for this game deceitful. It appeared to me to be two Metal Gear Solid games, now available for Gamecube. But in fact it is just one. I'll leave the reviews to others, a terrific and memorable in it's own right.

An exceptional remake to an exceptional game

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes is the remake to Konami's Playstation smash hit Metal Gear Solid where we were reintroduced to our favorite super spy of the 1980's - Solid Snake. In both the original and Silicon Knight's remake, Solid Snake is pulled out of retirement and sent to a nuclear test base in Antartica called "Shadow Moses" to stop a bunch of geneticly enhanced super soldiers from unleashing the new Metal Gear. Along the way Snake is going to meet up with some people from previous missions, make new allies, and unravel a conspiracy far beyond Snake's comprehention.

Twin Snakes is straight up one of the most action packed games I played, even though you are supposed to rely more on stealth then fighting. However, you will find yourself taking on a tank with grenades, crossing a minefield, repeling down a wall while being fired at by a Hind chopper which you will later be shooting rockets at, fist fights, a massive firefight going up a large tower, and the most intense sniper shootout protrayed in any video game. Obviously you will be doing more than this, but I think I caught your attention by now =]

So the story is told, so how does the game play fair up? The basic idea behind MGS: TS is this: You run around using your enviroment to your advantage, such as pressing against a wall or crawling under a table, to avoid being seen. You have guns, like the SOCOM pistol or the FAMAS machine gun, but in all reality those are supposed to be used as a last resort. Anyway, when you approach a guard you can grab him and snap his neck, when he falls you can grab his body and hide it in a locker or other various areas. If you wish, you can go into first person mode, aim with your weapon and shoot out a camera or a guard in his head.. its really up to you. You get grenades too - chaff (which jams electric devises) and stun (which knocks out enemies for a short period of time). Also, you can do a small melee combo, which at first, doesn't look like much - but I guarentee you will use it almost constantly when in tight spots.

From the original, pixalated Playstation version, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes looks almost life like with fluid motions both in-game and in FMV sequences, realistic (for the most part) physics, and some of the best graphics I have ever seen thanks to Silicon Knight's hardwork and Nintendo's awesome Gamecube system. Everything looks magnificent, and at the same time, dark, lonley, and terrifying. The character models look so real its hard to tell if its simply a video game, and that goes double time for Snake & all the bosses he fights. The codec sequences seem a little corny, that same as it was back in the original, so that sorta sucks.. but oh well.

Musically speaking, this game has one of the best scores I have heard in a video game. It is just very catchy, and always adds elements to the atmosphere. Ontop of that, the sound effects are awesome as well. Each guard lets out a satisfying scream when he is either shot or beaten up, and the guns sound virtually like their real life counter parts. The voice acting is superb; David Hayter did an excellent job on Snake.. the same goes for the rest of the cast.

You can unlock things too, depending on what you do during the torture scene with Ocelot. If you give in and let Meryl die, then at the end of the game, Otacon will give you a stealth suit. If you insisted on enduring the torture to let Meryl live, then you are rewarded with a special bandana that gives you unlimited ammo. Also, if you take certain pictures with your camera you are given the chance to see the "ghosts" of the creators of the game in the pictures. There are other unlockables, but I will let you find them yourself.

But no game comes without some sort of flaw. Two major problems I have with MGS: TW is the excessive amount of talking (but thats found in EVERY Metal Gear game.. so we can't blame Silicon Knights) and in the movie sequences, Snake does almost impossible moves. For instance, when he first meets up with Meryl, she shoots at him with a FAMAS - Snake quickly does a flip in matrix mode and the bullets miss him.. sort of lame.

To wrap it up, you need to buy & play Twin Snakes. It is, by far, the best Metal Gear game in the series. It is even better than the original.

Sorry Silicon Knights, but no...

Metal Gear Solid is my all time favorite game. When I heard that there was going to be a remake I was excited. I had already beaten the Playstation Metal Gears and my friend loaned me his game cube so I could try this game out. I was dissapointed.

TTS
Pros.-
Nice graphics
Boss Surival mode after completion

Cons.-
Voice acting is terrrible unlike the immaculet voice in MGS
Stupid action scenes
Ninja is less menacing
Phsyco Mantis is less menacing
Mei Lings accent is gone
Gamecube controller sucks
Added features make game too easy
Comedy scenens are inapropriate
Foxdie heart attacks are less dramatic

I can go on forever, but I won't. If you want to play this game, please do not play this version. The PLaystation Metal Gear SOlid is the way to go.

Must have for anyone who loves Action games on GameCube.

I became in love with the Metal Gear Solid games after I bought MGS2:Sons Of Liberty on PS2 for only 7 quid.It gripped me,i finished it over and over again in a timespan of three months, which means i finsihed it well over 9 times. After MGS2,i went and bought MGS3:Snake Eater,an even better game than MGS2 which featured much better gameplay, and beautiful storyline,I also introduced MGS3 to three of my friend,my friend Danny loved the game,my other two friends,Samantha and Calcie thought it was OK but they weren`t really good at it.My other friend Lewis had already finished and completed the game months before.
So after the excellence of MGS2&MGS3 I was deciding on whether to buy MGS1 or MGS:TTS since i have a GameCube,I bought TTS and its a great game, just not as good as MGS2&3.
Metal Gear Solid:The Twin snakes,or MGS:TTS is an enchanced remake of the PlayStation classic,MGS1.
it has been updated in three ways:
1)New graphics to make it appropriate for a GameCube game.
2)First Person Shooting added, but from what i`ve heard it makes an average game easy.
3)Three new items from MGS2 added,M9 tranquiliser pistol,Porn magazine and PSG1-T tranquiliser sniper rifle.

The gameplay is on par with other MGS games, graphics are great, sound and music are great too.nuff said.
by the way,I reccomend MGS to people who love action games with a movie twist in them.the MGS series so far:(Not part of the review and LOOONG!)
