A fantastic remake

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

The original Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 was a great game, but it hasn't aged well. I am so glad this released. The graphics are very nice, with great weather effects, detailed textures, and a smooth framerate that almost never lets up. The newly recorded dialogue and a fantastic new musical score by Harry Gregson-Williams also helps this remake get a high rating.

The story is the same as MGS1, and the gameplay is still based around stealth. However, there are many improvements to the gameplay. Enemies aren't quite so dumb anymore, and you're not limited by where you're allowed to shoot. MGS2's gameplay features (a first person view, smarter AI, the M9 tranquilizer, etc.) are here, therefore making this game far more enjoyable than the original.

This remake, like the original MGS, can be beaten in a short amount of time, and there is an overabundance of cinematics and dialogue, but this is still a highly replayable and highly recommended masterpiece.

(Some Advice: When you're done with this, grab MGS2: Substance on the PS2 or the Xbox!)

A GOOD IDEA,TO DO THIS

When i first started taking an interest in Metal Gear games,it was about the stealth i wanted,i am bored of running around in games to kill-kil-(plant a bomb,say)-kill-kill again. No i`m not saying those are rubbish games,i own a PlaySation 2,A GameCube and an old still working Nintendo 64,i have them all for one screen, and i still play N64`s BEST game,007 GoldenEye,i mean that was a game PlaySation 1 could ever beat, they tried 007 TWINE,and the now famous MOH first game,Medal Of Honor 1,yet MOH1 never beat 007 GoldenEye but clashed with it,and has been dubbed "the closest thing PlayStation(one) will ever get to N64`s 007 GoldenEye" but MOH1 was not PlayStation(one) best game,it was really Metal Gear Solid, the first 3D stealth game, and to me 007 GoldenEye and Metal Gear Solid are the top two games at 95.5% good level, and they are different genre`s but they are very close,in fact they were both SPY games, remember?! Solid Snake(Metal Gear Solid series, hero) is an American PHILANTHROPY agent who ssneaks past the guards, secretly takes photographs of a dangerous, usually nuclear weapon called Metal Gear, which is a bipedal tank-that looks like a man controlled robot dinosaur, but usually differ from each other here are all the Metal Gear tanks in the MG series,i know of in game oreder.

Metal Gear:TX-55(Metal Gear)
Metal Gear:D(Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake)
Metal Gear:REX(Metal Gear Solid/Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes)
Metal Gear:RAY(Metal Gear Solid 2)
Metal Gear:ARSENAL,aka:ARSENAL Gear(Metal Gear Solid 2)
Metal Gear:SHAGOHOD,aka SHAGOHOD(Metal Gear Solid 3)
Metal Gear:?(whatever the MG will be in Metal Gear Solid 4)

Thats alot of MG tanks,The only one there Solid Snake does not fight,is Metal Gear:SHAGOHOD,as it was in operation 8 years before he was born(well he is half clone,as well) but his father,Naked Snake(later known as,Big Boss) eliminated SHAGOHOD in the Cold War,of 1964.

In GoldenEye we see,British MI-6 agent,James Bond, try to eliminate USSR made nuclear satalite,Goldeneye before it destroys the world, very much the threat of a Metal Gear bipedal tank, and James Bond also has to destroy criminal-terrorist group JANUS,yeah again, like FOXHOUND in MGS. Bonds` best friend, and M-I6 ally,006 Alec Travelyan betrays Bond to form JANUS and share control of Goldeneye, heres another similarity in both ghames, you fight RUSSIAN soldiers.
So MGS and 007 GE are,and will always be the best of there generation,1st gen. 3D gaming(the consoles in it are PlayStation,Nintendo 64 and DreamCast).(in my opinion)

Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes is the recreation of that very game,Metal Gear Solid, same gamplay, same enemies, same allies but three differences,in GC remake the graphics and sounds are updated,The Ninja has a different voice this time, and some thing else i will mention.
When MGS2 came out people complained that MGS2 did not surpass the original one,So Nintendo asked Konami to put a MGS game on,GameCube, and Hideo Kojima(the Metal Gear games creator) agreed but he decided to recreate their best MGS game,Metal Gear Solid onto GC they did,and here we are with MGS:TTS.

There is something people loved about MGS2,it GamePlay and graphics style, and loved MGS1 Story and charicters, and so Kojima colides all this, and what does he get the second best of all Metal Gear games yet,Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes, that is second as its behind Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater, which is admitidly better, better gameplay, better graphics and we have one man who beats both Solid Sanke and Jack,S.Snakes` father Nakid Sanke, harsher attitudes, looks cooler, and is a very brutal minded soldier.
bye.

Even though I have never played a Metal Gear Solid game, I have heard nothing but good stuff about these games, and I'm very excited to know that Metal Gear Solid will be coming to the Nintendo GameCube this November, especially after viewing the many screens. On my list of highly-anticipated games, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is up there along with Mario Kart: Double Dash and Resident Evil 4. Can't wait!

Forget about this game going for another console, the game was partially made by nintendo, So no xbox version. Bets game of the series, put to shame metal gear solid 2. The vocies are the same except for Mei-ling. I like this voice better (not the corny japanese accent anymore).

Also you can PLay Pahntasy Star Online 3: Card revolution

Metal Gear Solid REVIEW
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
GAMEPLAY=I have found the Gameplay to have alot more respect than the original. They have added the MGS2 gameplay and the controls are good. You can also do the Dog Tag techinque and stick up the guard.. Fun. But nothing new if you already experienced the other MGS games..I was definatly expecting more.
SCORE=3/5 (Nothing new, But Can do if you never played MGS b4)

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=
Graphics=If you saw the cut-scenes or movies even screenshots you would definatly be impressed. At times it is blurry but its definatly improved over the original.
SCORE=4/5 (It is blurry, and I dont like Blurryness)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Sound=Im definatly mad..They CHANGED IT! THEY CHANGED IT! The boss music is definatly something I didnt get used too..This angered me..But I must treat this review fair since the other musics are just changed to other areas..
Score=4/5 (THEY CHANGED IT!!!)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Replay Value= Thus we get to the biggest problem..They barly have any replay-value..The game is kinda intense in a way but its all the same! The secrets are the same (BANDANA,CAMO)! Dissapointing and NO Im not gonna stop there. They didnt add anything (Except for the Mario and Yoshi in the Office)! I expected more weapons or something but ALL I GOT WAS A TRANQUILIZER AND A TRANQUILIZER SNIPER RIFLE! Dont expect the Replay to be the tough, cause its the weak..
SCORE=2/5
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Conclusion=Im not terribly mad at this game but I have been expecting alot more. Its just best to rent it instead of buying MGS:TTS. Since it only takes 20-40 hours to accomplish everything in the game..For people that never played MGS they should definatly give this game a look..for people that played it re-experience the game again..Just dont expect alot of Replay Value.
FINAL SCORE=3/5

A Little Short

This game is awesome but it has a few flaws (if you can call them that).First this game is short, like beat it 3 days short, also you arent given a big variety of weapons even though with the ones your given you can do some serious head busting. All in all this game is like True Crime except way hotter and better graphics and storyline. I would buy it.

Highly recommended

Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 was one of those games that you almost couldn't find someone who just downright hated it. Granted, now and then there would but they were few and far-between. It's now been remade with MGS2's gameplay and graphics style and while it may not have that coolness when you played it for the first time on original Playstation, it's still highly enjoyable.

Story: Terrorists have kidnapped 2 powerful men and want the remains of Big Boss(the villain who died in Metal Gear 2) returned. If not, they will launch a nuclear weapon. Your job is to rescue the 2 and find out if they can launch and disable them if they do. Over the course of the game, you'll encounter a unique group of enemies, an old enemy and many twists and turns.

Graphics: Maybe it's just my copy but some of the graphics, particularly skies looked rather bad and blocky. There's more detail in character models and surroundings. Familiar places in PS1 now get a more polished run through. The graphics really shine during the cutscenes although there's a sense of overdoneness to them.

Sound/Music: Probably the best use of voice acting ever. They've been redone so some of the original lines are altered and some just don't work but the voices are great anyways. My personal favorite is the oh-so-arrogant sounding Liquid Snake and the gruff hero. The music is nice but it doesn't have that epicness that Harry Gregson Williams brought to 2 and 3.

Gameplay: Everything's pretty much the same as PS1 besides some new features. Hanging over rails and first person shooting(which makes some of the areas and boss fights so much easier(may be a bad thing but personally I hated trying to shoot Ocelot in the original, now it's easier). One complaint I had was that the Map and CODEC screens are now done by pressing Start and B or A respectively while it was just one button in PS1 and PS2 games. The control scheme is slightly awkward too. I couldn't lower my gun in First Person without wasting a bullet.

One thing that made me replay the original quite a few times was the story. Complicated but easily understandable with twists and turns that kept you interested(unlike MGS2 where it was just complicated for the hell of it).

One complaint is in the cutscenes which normally I wouldn't mind. While well done, there's a degree of too much to them. Snake flips and dodges and rolls all over the place Matrix style and simple movements get the slow motion treatment. In the original, one scene involving a character decimating an entire hallway of guards was only heard and you saw the carnage afterwards, here it's in plain view which to me takes away the mystery of the first one.

All in all, I tend to hate remakes of any form but this is definately one to pick up.

disappointed

I found the packaging for this game deceitful. It appeared to me to be two Metal Gear Solid games, now available for Gamecube. But in fact it is just one. I'll leave the reviews to others, a terrific and memorable in it's own right.

I played the first Metal Gear Solid when it first came out and I loved it. I had alot of fun and learned alot of the first game. I bought a Gamecube for Resident Evil and then I saw they are making Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes for Gamecube but remade and new added features. I am easily buying this game since it has new graphics guns and added secrets. I was even more amazed seeing the price $40 bucks amazing. I would highly reccomend this game to anyone. I mean look and think about it, it is going to beat Splinter Cell.

I got interested in Metal Gear after i was interested in stealth games-i first played Splinter Cell:Pandora Tommorow on my PS2(i have XBox,GameCube and PS2) it was OK and was kind of thrilling, then i played Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons Of Liberty which i got for £5 NEW i didn`t like it at first-i HATED(and still do) the Camera Angle which is the "birdseye view" which is in all three present MGS games(MGS3:Subsistence is gonna have a new Splinter Cell style camera!) but it grew on me and MGS2 ended up being one of the BEST games i have ever played-i literally completed it 12 times on VERY EASY and EXTREME difficulties-it is kinda short and easy but its fun.
Then i got Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater on PS2 which was better than MGS2 by miles-i had given my first copy of the game to my friend Daniel,as his friend was actually trading this game with him anyway(he was getting WORMS 3D) so he gave me ShellShock and Conflict:Desert Storm II to trade in for MGS3 again.
I completed MGS3 at least 7 times on MEDIUM as i lost track and wanted to find some goodies to talk with my two friends about in the canteen, rather than understand the story better.
Than i ordered MGS:TTS for GameCube as thanx to MGS3 i wanted to follow the story.
Its not as good as MGS2 and MGS3 in my opinion-the only good things about the game are Playing Solid Snake through the ENTIRE game and the towards-end story like when Liquid talks to Ocelot about his plans with Sergei Gurlukovich-I know that guy from MGS2.
I never got the chance to play MGS1 as i wern`t a fan when it camo out.Th ereasons i didn`t get MGS1 and bought the remake:MGS:TTS was:
1)TTS has better graphics than MGS1-i can`t stand PS1 graphics no more.
2)I needed to use my GameCube more often.
3)TTS has FPS mode,MGS1 don`t.
4)Stupid AI in MGS1,smarter guards in TTS.
5)They don`t sell it anywhere,apart from shaggin` eBay.

What MGS:TTS basically is,is MGS1 with the gameplay of MGS2:
1)First Person mode-useful for shooting-shooting in 3rd Person is AWKWARD.
2)Hanging mode-gives a more stealthy eliment.
3)You get the porrn magazines(called BOOKS) that will destract the guards into a Love dimension(TEE-HEE-HE-HE)!
4)Tranquiliser weapons:M9 pistol and PSG1-T to spare those cocky yet human fools lives.

The only thing i didn`t like about MGS2 myself was Raiden-the guy is skimpy maaan,But at least in MGS1,MGS3 and MGS4 we will be playing a Snake(Solid and Naked Snakes) and not a RAI(RaiDEN or RaiKOV)-But MGS2 elsewhere was better.
Metal Gear:RAY is a much better MG than REX-Looks better and IS better-apart from those stubby legs.
MGS4Well MGS5 will be coming moderatly after so MGS5 EATS MGS4!
