Not with the Combat Upgrade

Folks, I tested this game, and paid for this game for 2 in a half years. Basically I spent $3922 on this game from buying it, buying an expansion, and paying monthly. I am a STAR WARS NERD!!!

BUT, and that BUT, is a BIG BUT! They added what was called a Combat Upgrade (CU) and it turned this beautiful unique game into a total generic tool of other MMORPGs, so basically it is the same ole same ole. DO NOT GET THIS GAME! At one time, you could have had a unique experience but not now. OVER 80% of the players gave the CU a 1 out of 5 but SOE only banned them and did not listen to its fan base.

Avoid this game, and check out Eve online for space, and Planetside for INTENSE fighting!

Also Guild Wars is a great game for free (no monthly) and World Of Warcraft is the best game out there.

I've also been on board since day one. Had 4 accounts and played this game a lot. Even tho many things remained broken during the 2 years I played, it seemed that SOE was slowly but surely improving things.

Then, the Combat Upgrade came, and it was bad.....really bad. Hundreds of millions of credits invested in weapons and armor were rendered utterly useless. Mobs that I could kill solo in under a minute now kill me in less than 10 seconds. A kill that gives 5000xp that used to take 20 seconds, now takes 4-5 minutes.(if you survive at all). I honestly feel bad for anyone trying to start a character after the CU.

Read all of the reviews, the vast majority of SWG players are completely unhappy with the CU and have cancelled thier accounts. Somehow SOE is saying that it's receiving positive response. They've had to constantly monitor the forums to delete negative CU posts.

Anyway, save yourself the money...you WILL be dissapointed.

This moron from Texas obviously works for SOE, he tries, and i DO NOTE>TRIES<< to belittle all the hundreds of letters condemning SOE and the new CU upgrade. I myself, have played game since its beginnings, and i can sadly say, this CU upgrade destroyed a game that so many players, both veterans, and new players enjoyed. Just read the hundreds of letters in here as proof. This Texan player (most likely SOE CRS/dev) hasn't a clue that thousands leaving game, with thousands more jumping ship! So it's quite obvious, as his letter is one of only couple among hundreds, that says game is better now after CU upgrade. So who do you believe, the hundreds vet players and all condemning SOE and it's actions, or this guy from Texas? Dont' take my word for it, just spend time and read all the many letters. YOU ALL KNOW THE AGE OLD SAYING???? >> "IF IT'S NOT BROKE!, DON'T FIX IT!!!" As was the case for SWG game. It had some bugs, but overall, it was great, then they pull this CU upgrade on the thousands upon thousands of paying customers to game, and ruin it completely. GET A CLUE SOE!! THIS IS NOT EVERQUEST! IF I WANT TO PLAY EVERQUEST AND IT'S GAME FUCTIONALITY, I GO TO EVERQUEST! SIGH!

This game has changed dramatically since the CU. Sony continues to lash out at its player base by ignoring us and censoring us. Unfortunately there will be no player base as everyone is quitting this game.

Do I suggest it? NO. Would I have suggested it 2 weeks ago...sure...I have been playing since August 2003 and love it -- let me rephrase that LOVED it.

RUINED BY SONY ONLINE ENT.

Sony has completely destroyed what made this game stand out. The Combat Upgrade has been protested by the player base and has been installed regardless. The loyal fans have quit. Please do not buy this game. It once was my favorite and I am disgisted with the result of SONY having its money-mongering hands in it.

The game had great potential. They started to make some nice changes to the game mechanics and content that started to really improve things. Then came the Combat Upgrade. That is marketing speak for total game revamp. The gameplay has completely changed. Now the non-combat players cannot do business because they cannot get the items they need to craft without hiring player body guards. This is just unforgivable. They went from a Star Wars game to a EverQuest game with laser guns and glowing baseball bats.

Players wanted tweaks not a complete overhaul. Save your money or play something like World of Warcraft. Customer service is the worst I have ever seen, and I have played and tested around six other online RPGs.

I have played this game for 2 years and overall was a fun and enjoyable game. While Galagies had its problems and some things needed fixing a complete redesign was not wanted nor necessary. Some, things from the upgrade were needed such as the upgrade to the HAM bar but placing a level based system over a skill based game has created new bugs and compounded any of the preexisting bugs that SOE and never bothered to fix to begin with(the entire community has been told to wait and that is what we all have been doing now the're telling us to do it again, with the past record i find it very hard to contine to pay for a product that is continually defective). Secondly the level system was not part of the documented Combat upgrade and proves quite well that SOE does not listen to its customer base who pay the bills. I have worked in retail for the past seven years and ignoring your customer (complaints, issues, concern, questions, etc., etc.)will not lead to a successful (product, company, store, whatever else you want to call it) and only lead them to leave to do business with your competitor(s). All i can truly say is think long and hard before you buy this game unless you want to pay throught the nose to be ignored.

This game used to be full of mature players. The combat system was not an exercise in who could click the mouse fastest and generally it was fun to play.

Since the combat upgrade most of the community minded players have left and the few left behind are the dregs of humanity.

This game used to be five star

No matter which side of the argument you fall on (Love the CU or Hate it) Tha fact remains it is totally bug filled and the game is STILL unbalanced. SOE has the nerve to tell peple "we are working on fixes and prioritzing them." Mean while many classes (called proffesion in SWG)are unplayable and people are paying to play a broken game. Poor business tactics. I can't do that anymore so three accounts (2 day ones and 1 a year old)canceled. If you really feel the need to play a Star Wars game play KOTOR or Revenge of the Sith...games that were beta tested before they were released.

SWG used to be one of the best most diverse MMO out there. Beware to all that are thinking about buying this game, it is very very different from what you will read in the manual. The game is now like many other leveling games, except with no content. I used to love this game and was completely addicted to it, and now i honestly say i am sick of it and it makes me want to throw up.

I strongly recommend against this game, and rather suggest GuildWars.
