Straight down to the facts...

1: This game was released to early. There are many bugs in it including having to pick up every gun, amo, things like that. There are also places where you need to stand in just the right place for a door to open. This game can waste a lot of your time with these kind of things.

2: The graphics are nothing short of amazing. I have been a gamer for quite a while, and these are some of the best graphics I've seen. The only place where graphics fail are the faces of people.

3: The game is simple, you go thorugh levels, get keys, unlock doors, kill enemies, and things of this sort.

4: You have jedi powers which include:
Mind Tricks: Enemies become your friends
Push: Push people and objects away from you
Pull: Pull weapons, amo, and objects to you
Heal: heal yourself
Throw Lightsaber: Able to throw a lightsaber and get it back with the force
Man others, but these are the main ones.

5: I qeustion is probably lurking in your head, should you get it? If you are unsure, I suggest you play it somewhere. You can get a demo off of lucasarts.com. This is a good way to see if it will work on your computer.

This is what I have to say about Jedi Outcast.

EXCELLENT!!!

I love this game!! (don't even rate this review because it's not a review!) It's exceptional at online play and story mode...I agree with all the people who gave the game 5-stars read their reviews!!!

Good graphics. Awful gameplay.

"Jedi Outcast" is the third installment in the outstanding "Dark Forces" series. Sadly, it is also the first misfire. "Dark Forces" and "Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight" were superb games both in terms of graphics, gameplay, and story arc. Admittedly, the graphics are good for "Jedi Outcast", but it fails miserably with gameplay. The keyboard plays a singularly important role in any PC-based video game. With that being fact, it's imperative that actions that keyboards performs be smooth and fluid. It was with the two previous installments in this series, but the control is nothing short of totally aggravating. The movement is 'herky-jerky', almost like it regressed to earlier technology. Aiming the weapons at the targets is nearly impossible because the targets move too fast to acquire with the current setup. Also, trying to pan the player's view up and down and from left to right is very shaky. The gameplay is so awful that I have been forced to stop playing the game because I do not have the patience to deal with it. I suspect the game, itself, may actually get quite good. Unfortunately, I cannot give a rating based on how good I think the game could be if only the gameplay were better. The fact that the game is too aggravating to continue to play dooms "Jedi Outcast" to the lowest score possible. Perhaps the versions ported for actual gaming systems perform much better. If they do, I will review this game much more favorably for that platform.

It takes more than the Force to become a Jedi...

Jedi Knight 2 : Jedi Outcast is a very good game.

Straight out of the box, this Game kicks some serious ...! With some nail-biting missions and astounding detailed levels! It is no doubt this game will be a hit among the Star Wars Universe Fans. The best feature of this game is the Multiplayer support. It is really something to be in the middle of 8 Jedi's all locked in Saber battles. Let's take a look at this game as it does have its downs.

The STORY - You return as Kyle to help the Old Republic defend itself from a new evil. A evil called Dessan and his army of Dark Jedi's. A misson you are on reveals this new threat to the Old Republic and the death of Kyle's partner Jan, fuels the fire of Kyle to find and stop Dessan. Dessan ultimate purpose is to create a army of invincible Dark Jedi's to rid the universe of the Jedi's sworn to protect the secrets of the Force. Dessan feels that the Force is not something you proctect people from, but something you rule people by. Get ready for a excellent storyline in this new Star Wars adventure.

The GRAPHICS - Are some of the best I have seen! Bearing in mind you have a excellent computer with a high calibur video card. I am currently running a ATI Radeon 8500 and the game looks spectacular. I personally don't like crisp clear pefect graphics. I like the graphics to have a little noise in it, for example the graphics in Return to Castle Wolfenstien. But if you enjoy this, then by all means praise the graphics! Storm Troopers will look nice and crisp as they attempt to blast you throughout the levels.

The GAMEPLAY is very smooth with the in game cutscenes. Controls can be hotkeyed to your preference with enable you to have force powers ready at your fingertips. You have a wide variety of weapons including a stun baton, rocket launcher, thermal detonators, rocket launcher, sniper rifle and the popular, non-accurate blaster rifle. And of course you already know about the Light Saber. The is the ultimate weapon that allows block weapons fire and slice your enemy's at close range at at a distance. And don't worry about losing your saber, you can always get it back with the flick of your wrist.

The A.I. - Oh man, there are some ups and downs in the A.I. in this game. There was only one time I have seen Storm Troopers run in a movie and that was when Han Solo was chasing them in the Death Star. Storm troopers move like they are on some type of drug when you attempt to shoot them which is kinda of annoying. If you come accross Imperial Officers, shoot them fast because they are extremely accurate. Other Jedi's fight you on a level that is distrubing. The lesser Jedi's are nothing compared to some of the Jedi's you will face off with in the later levels. Dessan is one bad mother when you fight him. Many of his blows will knock you down. And not to mention some Saber battles involve more than 2 jedi's at one time.

In conclusion, there are some great aspects of this game, mainly the action sequences. In my opinion there are WAY TOO MANY PUZZLE AND SPACE WASTER MISSIONS. I can understand having puzzles in games to take a break from the actions, but for this type of game, it should have been more action based. In the last levels, making your way to the Jedi Academy will really drive you up the wall because of the environment. The best aspect of this game is hands down the multiplayer. It is what makes this game really shine.

If it's even close!

If Lucasarts even comes close to the mark on this one it will be a hit! Anyone who has ventured into the online action of PC gaming can reaffirm that Jedi II was it. With guns, sabers, and mines a player could actually use a bit of their smarts to play even if they weren't the most gifted player with the joystick. The numereous add on levels and mods should speak for themselves. My question is this...what the heck took these guys so long to figure it out? Hopefully, at least one of them has visited a gaming room online? Pre-order. I did!

Great game, but a could be better

Good:
Lightsaber is awesome. No need to use any other weapon.
Force powers are done *very* well.
Graphics are very good.
Gameplay/story isn't too bad.
Good (mostly) level design with very large levels.

Bad:
Boring until you get your lightsaber! And thats not 'til the third level! ....
Game is short! only like 12-15 hours of gameplay. That's short to me.
Puzzles and gameplay, while difficult at times, were overall not very challenging or original. "press this button, open that door to get to a hidden lever, repeat..." And I'd like to hear the reasoning behind the layout of some of the puzzles/levels. "Oh, the Empire *needed* a system of platforms that go to different heights depending on which hidden lever you push!" (I've always hated when the puzzles don't jibe with any sense of reality of how an environment would realistically be designed. .....

lightsaber saves gameplay

Jedi Knight 2 overall is a very fun game, but if the lightsaber wasn't in the game, then it wouldn't be anything near what it is now. It starts out pretty slow on the story side and the action side. The initial weapons aren't very much fun to use and so I was playing pretty much just to get the lightsaber. Then I got it... and the force powers... Now, the combination of these makes this game VERY FUN! As soon as you get the saber, the action picks up. The ability to push your enemies and then use your saber on them while they are trying to get up is really fun. The story is satisfying but not brilliant. It can't compare to the story of Baldur's Gate II, but this is an action game so the story is not the strongest part, which is usual. At least, it gives you enough reason to slice through your enemies. The best part of the gameplay is the saber duels. They are challenging, but really fun!! They are some of the best action sequences since Half-Life.

The accompanying graphics are great. The models of the enemies and their animations are very well done. The shining helmets of the imperial forces and their death animations are brilliant, including the saber animations. The sounds are also really well done. The saber sounds are especially wonderful; it really immerses you into the Kyle Katarn character, and you feel like you are actually using the saber.

Finally a word on the collector's edition: It is a very good deal. The previous jedi knight games were known for their story-driven gameplay with great action sequences. Especially dark forces II is still engaging, and even though it looks dated, it is worth the 10 extra bucks. There is also a key chain in the shape of a saber, which is soooo big that I don't think I'll use it as a 'key-chain' at all. Looks nice on my table though... So if you want to play through the previous jedi knight games, this is a very good deal; you should definitely check it out. I bought the collector's edition, and I am definitely gonna play through dark forces II again after soo many years. It was truly a great game.

Final verdict? This game is great. It might not be the best action game of the year, but it still is a lot of fun. Come on now, how many games give you a saber to play with accompanied with great graphics and sound? Buy this game, you won't be sorry!

You know what? I absolutely hate it when people say that this game was hard. I beat it on normal in one week! And this was when it first came out, when I was about twelve years old our around there maybe thirteen. But, anyway this game was so fun! I got it the week it came out and that Christmas vacation, me and my brothers were glued to the computer playing that game, or at least watching me play it. I have beaten that game five times now and it never gets old!

Will ONLY work on latest (flat-screen) iMac with super-duper graphics card! Disappointed children are not a pretty sight -- if you have a "lesser" iMac, stay away!

Say what??

(...) Ask anyone that plays PC Games, and they will tell you that Jedi Knight was a revolution when it hit the shelves. It was the first game to boast such expansive levels, and along with the Star Wars license, the game was awesome. People still play that game, and with all the usermade mods/skins/levels you can clearly see that Jedi Knight was an awesome game. Now getting to Jedi Outcast, I do agree with you that the Quake 3 engine is not the best, but DAMN (am I allowed to say that) it looks GOOD! Its not Doom 3, but have you seen any clips for Jedi Outcast? The game is gonna be awesome, and it better be because Lucasarts knows that this is their last chance to please the PC market. Either way guys, this game is gonna be great, I mean its Star Wars, done be a team that knows what they're doing. Raven is that team by the way (...)
