I must say, the thing this game's got goin' for it is the frickin' BEAUTIFUL graphics. You will drool all over when you see how sweet this game looks....especially the replays- almost like watching a real LeMans race on TV!

So....
Graphics: 10/10

Sound: 8/10 (Music is not annoying, but the pit guy/radio chatter is repetetive....a nice touch though.)

Replay: 9/10 (Story mode- very simple and short. There are hundreds of Event Races to race though....and you're almost inclined to get hordes of money to be able to tune your cars....you'll need the modifications to be able to win some of the gold-medal Event Races....)

Car Handling: 6/10 (This is one of the game's two downfalls. After playing games like Gran Turismo where you can powerslide around corners beautifully, this game concentrates on slowing down enough to be able to take a turn safely....although I was able to use some of the rally cars to slide around turns. Some of the cars also are hard to control after contact with a wall or another car, almost always resulting in a spin-out {and a "DAMN IT!" from the pit guy} That's another thing- once ya spin-out, it's hard to make up ground....especially in the gold and some silver races.)

Sense of speed: 5/10 (Need for Speed Underground? Now that game made you feel like you were going 125 MPH. In this game, not until I acquired the Bentley EXP 8 or whatever its called and raced on the oval did I sense any sort of speed. Not even the drags felt fast, even when I punched the nitrous. You don't feel you're going fast in this game until you're going 175-180 MPH, but by that time, it's time to brake for the tighter turn of the oval....lmao....)

Overall, this game gets 8 out of 10....if you get used to the handling, and the golf-cart speed....it's a hell of a lot of fun....

quick and simple un-biased review

the good- good graphics(in-game), slick presentation, great replays and story-mode cut scenes, fairly easy to access stuff plus lots of options(ways to play) to work with.

but...

the not so good- actual races are kinda slow and un-exciting, story-mode is not that great as it feels more tacked on than anything else, in-game chatter during races gets very repetitive, only a few really good courses and one feels more licensed cars, tracks, and musical numbers should have been included.

overall, a rather lackluster, uneventful racing sim(with some arcade aspects) that does provide some fun despite its shortcomings. if you are a Gamecube only owner and want a sim-type racer, add one star(almost by default, due to a lack of racing sims, this is one of the best racing sims on the system) and a high recommendation to definitely check it out. if you are a multi-system owner or PS2 or X-box-only owner, subtract one star and a lukewarm rental recommendation is in order. but seriously, this game(while it does have its merits, and i do kinda like it) does not compare well with games like Project Gotham Racing 2 and GT4.

All around good racing game

if you like racing games youll like this game. its like gran tourismo with a story. you can race on the "circuit" as a professional race car driver or you can do "event challenges" of which there are several diffrent kinds and by my calculations well over 200 races if you want to do them all. the driving physics are good, you can definatly feel the diffrence when driving diffrent cars and the handling is pretty good. you can do a minimal ammount of modifications to your cars. you can upgrade the speed twice and modify the weight twice and thats about it. i think thats ok though because they put more details into the story and the racing action rather than haing you spend most of your game play time trying to buy every little piece for your car. overall i would say this is a must have for anybody who likes racing games. its fun, has a high replay value (ive had it for 2 weeks and im only 28% of the way through the game).

Monaco alone makes it worth it.

Include me in the category of those looking for a racing simulator. As far as utilizing rumble features and providing different racing views, this game ain't much, but it's okay.

One of the best features is the TV replay. That's a lot of fun to watch. Racing at Monaco? Terrific. Talk about a new appreciation for F1 drivers. It really doesn't matter how many times you go through the lower portion of the track, you still think you're finished with the turns, and yet there is one or two more waiting for you before a good straight.

I'm not interested in getting a PS2 for Gran Turismo because so many people have told me about problems they've had, so I'll take what I can get.

Decent game

It really isnt that bad of a game. The graphics i thought were very well done. The cars look real, as well as the road. My problem was that it took me a total of 2 days to beat this games yes 2 days. It was so easy its not even funny. I thought it was niice that they made a drag racing mode on it but i hate having to hold the brake all the time because if u let it go to quickly you have to start over. I wish that they would have made the game so you may decal the car the way you want it like need for speed but o well. Its a decent game i think for 20$ or less but there are many better games out there. Like Need For Speed underground the best move to do is buy that or be patient and buy need for speed underground 2. But i think this game will be even better than need for speed underground is Street Racing syndicate. Go to gamespot.com and take a look or go 2 if they have a cite street Racing stndicate.com But if u wanna game now get R Racing evolution

A huge dissapointment...

How hard is it to make a decent driving game these days...? After getting addicted to Need For Speed: Underground I decided to give Racing Evolution a try. This game is a total waste of money. The best part of the game is the story mode...but unlike NFS it does not last long enough. The graphics are good, but I would rather have more speed than bigger cars...(cars are too big!). Total waste of money...

Fun, but not so great graphics.

This game is fun, but the graphics aren't any where as good as they could be.

Not Very Satisfying

The semi-third person view is not very satisfying. It would have been nice for them to detach the rear bumper-perspective and allow the true third-person detached perspective, like Burnout and Burnout 2 and most racing games. Other than that, the game has nice graphics and the racing cars are awesome. If you want to have some racing fun, then get this game. But if you want a truly satisfying all encompassing racing experience, then buy Burnout 2.

never received the game

We're still waiting for our order to come in the mail. It was a birthday gift for my 12-year-old son. That was a month ago. The game has not arrived.

pathetic AI

The graphics are fair. The physics (car handling) is fair to poor. There is no damage modelling. There is never any weather - always a dry track. (if you run off track though, the handling changes, more or less as it should)

What's worst is the AI of the other drivers. If you successfully follow any other opponent for more than 1/4 a lap, they get "nervous" and make a mistake. You literally can not follow anyone around on the track, in a race, and not have them screw something up so that then you can pass. It is so perfectly predictable, that you can time your moves to the mistakes they will make. Boring, boring, boring. There is absolutely no challenge in racing this game by yourself against the machine.

The only fun is in time trialing (and how much fun is that after a while?) or in dual player race mode. Also, dual player race mode clears the track of traffic, so it's only you and your partner. Pretty dull.

Best racing on the GC is still EA's Nascar Thunder 2004, in my experience. It really taught me to appreciate American Stock Car racing.

cheers,

Boris
