Picked it up on the first day

I bought this game today. I've been playing it for about 2 and a half hours. It is a truly great game. However it is NOT better than Super Mario 64, but i really didn't expect it to be. It is a lot different. I'm sure you know all about the water cannon. There is a story line to this game, but it would of been just as good without it. It has bright colors just like other mario games. There are classic characters. This is the first time that mario is not rescuing peach. The boss battles are one of the strongest points to this game. You can now talk to the people in town and in other places. There are a ton of mini games to get blue coins and shines with (the replacement of stars.) That is about all I can tell you at this point, but it is a must buy.

Ah the joys of agonizingly slow graffeti cleaning

It was a very novel and creative idea, set on a quite pretty world to look at, but in the end, it just did not work. The controlls on this thing are horrendous, never seen any worse ones. You will often die (and I do mean often) just because you couldn't manage to aim your sprayer, it is very unresponsive. You will often run into an enemy and take damage while trying to jump to spray things above you. Accidental flips that leave you spraying in the opposite direction are common. At first the pretty world, great looking water and interesting theme make you expect this game might be worth overlooking the truly awful controlls, but it isnt. It just isn't any fun to stand there and spray the same pile of goop for a long, long, long time. Nobody said cleaning up graffeti was fun or easy, and thats carried through in the game as well.

If I could go back in time

Mario Sunshine is a game that requires you to try things over and over, again and again. I personally gave up on it: I kept getting killed on the melting sand blocks. In this game Mario has a water pack and he can hover with it or dissolve his enemies. If I could go back in time, I would stop myself from buying this game, but if you're a Mario fan go ahead and take the risk.

Bah!

I can't put my finger on it--but there's something about "Sunshine" that just doesn't rub right with me. Maybe it's the horrible voice acting. Maybe it's the blindingly bright, cherry graphics that make me want to hurl. Or maybe it's because Mario moves like a rabid elephant with shards of broken glass stuck in its feet. The "vacation" theme of the game gets old (I WANT A SNOW LEVEL, DARN IT); Peach has become the biggest ditz; and Yoshi dissolves as soon as he hits water. Oh, and FLUDD is the biggest pain in the butt to use. It's still a respectable action game; but it doesn't live up to previous Mario titles. I played this game for a while, and after I beat it, I havn't touched it since. A disapointment for Mario fans.

A Little Sunshine, a Lot of Repetition...

Super Mario Sunshine is a bright, cute, fun game. It's very pretty to look at, and some of the environments are simply splendid.

SMS's game controls can occasionally be tricky to get used to (especially shooting that darned water hose at your enemies), but for the most part you do get used to them, and the farther Mario progresses in his quest against Shadow Mario, the better his arsenal of tools.

My only real problem with the game is that there is very little story progression, and it's awfully repetitious. While each level is ingenious and clever in its presentation, the quest basically remains the same, each and every time. This ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment of SMS -- there isn't much linear plot progression, or that feeling you get from a good game that you *have* to finish (as with a good book) just to see what happens next.

While the story may lack suspense, this does mean that the game is perfect for those "I feel like playing a game" moments -- when you just want to sit down and play a game without getting sucked into a story for 5 hours. The game's bright, sunny characters and environments also make it perfect for kids.

It's ultimately worth a purchase versus a rental -- as long as you don't pay too much, and especially if you're a fan of the series on other platforms.

Unless you have the time and patience...

I'm a huge fan of the Mario series. This game is fun... for a while. It's beautiful, but I would have enjoyed more variety of worlds. The main problem with this games is the difficulty. I mean this may not have been a problem, but each time you fail you have to redo so much it seems more a chore than a game. After dying 5 million times and having to find your way back to the trouble spot you'll see what I mean. This game is also very difficult without a guide.

You just HAVE to get this game. From playing, there are many bosses, one of the hard ones is cleaning a montster underwater, in noki bay! oops, spoilers... anyway, this has great controls, and FLUDD is cool =) they brang back the toads memory of Prinsess peach, (They forgot who mario and peach were in Paper Mario 2) so, over all, i give this a 10000/10! Great game.
FLUDD: Oh no... not the tackling again...

Just a retread of a classic

All I can say is that the Mario series is getting tired. More of the same and not the leap that Mario64 took. Do yourself a favor and try it a few times before you buy it. It is not the instance must have game that Mario was in the past.

It's Pretty Fun

The game is actually really fun. BUT, if your a "gaminator", like my brother, you'l beat it in a matter of weeks. I think it would be a good birthday present for kids 10-12.
