Tales of a awesome game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4
Date: February 11, 2005
Author: Amazon User

Dudes, this is THE best game I've ever played since TMNT 3:Manhatten Project on the ol' NES.

Story:8.7/10-- The story starts rather dull; a girl from a small ocuntry village jouneys to save the world with the aid of her friends and a mysterious warrior. However, once you get about 1/4 way through the game, the story takes off with countless dramatic twists. Betrayel, doublecrossing, and burning guilts keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.

Graphics:9.0/10-- The graphics are top notch!! Now, I didn't care for the cel-chaded grapics of LoZ:WW but this game makes every character look outstanding. Extremely fine detail is put in to character design like the cold sharpness of Lloyd's katanas. The field is a little dull, but wait 'til you see some of the spells in this game and you'll be saying OMG!!

Characters:9.2/10-- Every character, all 9 of them have their own distinct personalities. From the happy-go-lucky Colette, to the cold, face the facts realism of Kratos, to the carefree ladies' man Zelos. Each one with their own personal dillemas and trials that they must overcome.

Gameplay: 8.9/10-- There's plenty of gameplay in ToS. You'll be sent on dozens of side-quests and mini-games. Such as being a waitress for a day, collecting figurines for your extensive collection of dolls, to scavanging for lost weapons cursed by an evil spirit. You cannot possibly say there is nothing to do in this game. An added plus is that this game is NOT linear like most platformers and some RPG's (LOTR:3rd Age, Shining Force). The before mentioned cursed weapons will remind you of an evil weapon form another great Namco title. But I won't tell you what, just let your "Soul" give you the answer.

Battleplay:10/10-- This is by far one of the best battle systems I've played. Very simialr to SSBM, you battle on a 2D plane while targeting a certain enemy. Also like SSBM, you can use special moves called techs; which range from extensive sword skills, to damage dealing magical spells. Another great battle tool is the ability to cook after a fight to restore HP/TP or to cure your party of ailments.

Overall:9.2/10-- THis game is so good and I hope you get this game if you have a GCN. If you don't have a GC, then get one so you can play this game!!!

Best RPG I've played in a while

I'm kinda new to the console scene, having spent the majority of my life playing computer games, but Tales of Symphonia (ToS) ranks right up there with some of the greats I've played. There are moments that the game approaches the level of Final Fantasy VII, but mostly it's a solid, fun, interesting game that'll keep you up 'till the wee hours of the morning.

There are two aspects of the game that I appreciate the most: first of all, the combat system is very interesting - real-time combat a la Soul Calibur II. This is not to say that there are no RPGs with real-time combat, but I've never seen a system that works so well. There are your normal attacks, of course, and there are "tech" attacks which are special moves you can perform. Unlike a counter or break limit in other games, you gain "points" that you can spend on tech attacks by using normal attacks. It might sound a little confusing, but it forces you to strike a balance between the huge powerful special attacks and your normal fighting.

Also, in combat you only control one character, although you can direct the others on your team to do this or that. There is also a fairly decent AI which makes it a lot easier.

Second, although some reviews have panned the depth of the storyline itself, the questions about morality and ethics that keep on popping up via mini-skits throughout the game are extremely worthwhile and interesting. You could go through the entire game and skip them, of course, but you would definitely be missing out.

Four stars because it takes a bit of time to get into it, but there's lots to do, see and experience, which in my mind makes it a fun and lengthy game. With the PC RPG scene looking duller and duller, Tales of Symphonia is a fresh breeze.

Gamecube roleplaying gets a new life

Greetings, all Gamecube fans. Many of you have been starved, waiting for a role playing game to arrive that would "wow" you, and make you cry in it's whole-hearted goodness. You wondered, as I did, WHEN Nintendo would find something for us die-hard role players. Well, my friends, the wait is now over, and you may all rejoice! Tales is one of the best role playing games out there across ALL the platforms, and is a necessity for any Gamecube role player to have in his or her collection. From the opening cinematic sequences that make you hold your breath, to the sounds that wow your ears, to the graphics which impress and bring tears to your eyes in joy, Tales of Symphonia is the game, the one game, the game of games for role playing exuberance. Nothing gets boring in this game. Even for most rpg's, battle sequences can make you go numb from doing it over and over again. Not so in Tales, my friends. Every battle is unique, from commanding your party members to initiate different actions, from the main character running in circles around the battlefield, targeting different enemies, Tales has it all. You'll feast your eyes on this little wonder and smile. The story? None better, in my humble opinion. You'll latch onto the characters like they are your best friends. In conclusion, before I run out of space for this review, BUY IT, enjoy it, live it. You won't be disappointed with the purchase of this gem from Namco. The Gamecube gets major shock therapy from this wonder of wonders, and role players will have a story they can talk about for years to come. Ex Celsior!

Long wait was well worth it!

Anime graphics, RPG on an RPG-starved system, cool spells and techniques and a long and in-depth,(despite predictable), storyline make Tales of Symphonia one my personal favourite titles. Even after beating the game, Mania difficulty can make even a lowly Wood Worm a challenge to defeat. If you've got some friends, team up for a 4-player co-operative mission. My personal favourite challenge is to beat any of the Seal Guardians without getting hit directly, (blocking ok). Promising about 60-80 hours of solid gameplay, (less if you are an expert at these games), TOS is sure to be a classic for the ages.

Best game ever!

Tales of Symphonia is, quite simply, the best game I've ever played. The storyline may seem simple and overused at first glance, but it has so many twists and surprises it's impossible not to be enraptured, with plenty of side quests if you somehow manage to be bored by the storyline (though I don't see how you could be). The characters are equally engrossing. ToS also has the best and most exciting, yet easy to learn battle system of any RPG I've ever played. I've already beaten ToS once and am working on beating it a second time.

A suprisingly good RPG

A new RPG for the Gamecube. Finaly. Tales of Symphonia has a really interesting story, and the questionable battle system is fine once you get use to it. Although the game is advertised to have alot of anime cut-scenes, I've played through most of the first disc and have yet to see one. I find their absence srangly odd. I'd tell you more about the story, but I don't want to spoil it for you. This is one game where the strategy guide ruins it. I've heard that the Strategy guide has incorrect data. But, you don't really need it for this game, it is fast paced and never that confusing. So, my advice is go into the game blind, or you wont enjoy the mysterious story.

This game is great!

This is a very cool game. It has about 100 spells, attacks and all that kind of stuff. It really is 80 hours long like it says. But if you want to get 80 hours out of it you have to play it through the second time like your are supposed to. It's really fun! Sometimes there is a pretty hard puzzle to beat, but if you do it enough you'll find it out... trust me. ( eyes bloodshot)lol. Overall this is the best RPG,Action,Game, ever that i have played. You can rent it at most BlockBusters. It's the best game i have have ever played! Man it is cool! The 3 best people are Lloyd, Kratos, and probbly Zelos. he's like Kratos in a way. You should at least rent this game. Oh, and for the people that don't know... Kosuke Fujishima does the cel-shaded characters. This is a awsome game! Bye i'm going to play ir right now. ^_^

I thought this game was amazing, and it was one of the longest and best I've ever played. The storyline was great; interesting, intreguing, making you want to play more... I spent like... 50 hours playing this game.

You will fall in love with the main characters, they are so believable and just have great personalities.
Well anyway, I love this game, and I hope there will be a sequal soon. Buy this game, whether your little or old, its amazing!!

Tales of Symphonia: The Cube's RPG

Ok, we all know that each system has their own "game"(Xbox=Halo 2 PS2= Kingdom Hearts, GTA, FF X-2) Of course Resident Evil 4 is now out for the GC and that is probably the Gamecube's game. But I'm getting off the point here, Tales of Symphonia is a great game that all GCN owners should have. When I first started this game(I've beat it 3 times) I found the cheesy story of " The world's in danger, the chosen one must save it by doing/collecting whatever so that the world may be saved" That was really dumb I thought. But I just ignored it and went on with the game. MAN THEN I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!!! The best thing on the game is the Battle System. Highly original with all the characters moving at once. I've always found turn-based battles somewhat boring because you don't really get the feel of it. But in ToS, the battle's going on at all times, so you need to watch your and your allies backs. There's also a stratagy menu where you set wat the characters can do. Example: Kratos is a strong character so you don't want to set him to stay out of battle and heal. You want him to be up front and kick some crap out of monsters. One of the best things of the battle system is, your friends can play too!!! I thought that was freakin' awesome, because if you got a friend over and the only thing they are doing is watching, then tell them to pick up a controler and play! Anyway I don't want to talk about the entire battle system in this review. Just one last thing on on it though, later in the game there is a unison attack that delivers massive damage on the monsters and if you the right attacks, a combo of characters form an awesome spell/attack that will blow your mind away and give even more damage to the opponent.(the first compound attacks, don't much but when your party learns more spells, those are the awesome ones) The story is great, besides the first part, because it's always changing and keeping you in the plot line. There are cut scenes keep the normal graphics, but the cinematics are all amine drawn and are just gorgeous. The story-line forms twists and turns and just pop out at you(in a good way). The graphics are cel-shaded, but for those of you who hated the Windwaker graphics, you won't be disapointed. The sound is sweet because if Lloyd draws his sword, you will hear the metal swish out. When you're fighting, the sound of battle is all around. Another great thing about this is the Ex-gems the party can wear. The give you special attributes that can have you do special things, in or outside of battle. You can even customize your weapons to be turned into better weapons, so if you get a new sword, don't sell it because it may be needed to customize and maake it even stronger than the sword you just bought. This game can be very long, that's another reason why you might like it. There is replay-value in this game, because grade(a thing that you get + or - depending on how well you fought in battle) is used after you beat it to start a new game and buy things that will help you along during the game example: 2x attack, know all cooking recipes, lose less or more tech. Cooking is another great addition to the game, cooking lets somebody cook and make some food to heal your party, or get rid of poisin. Be careful who you pick to cook, because it will make a differince. Certain chacaters have stars to show how good they can cook something. There is alot more stuff in the game that I haven't covered, so you can find out about. Don't listen to Judgement Day, X Play, or any other game review show/website. Tales of Symphonia is a blast and you should have a great time playing it. Thank you Namco, for creating such a beautiful game. 5 stars, no doubt about it.

Wow

I didn't purchase this game until a few months after it came out cause I didn't think it would be a whole lot of fun. However, I decided to purchase it and this game blew me away. It took me a while of figuring out how to play it and even starting it a 2nd time, I still find new stuff. This game has become a gem in my video game collection.

The bosses are fun and intresting, the character and thier design are phenominal (they have to be since they were done by the creator of Oh! My Goddess), the story has so many twists and turns that it left me speechless at times, and the dubbing is superb which is a weak area in most dubbed games. As well, the battle set-up is intresting and different, the character technqiues are superb, and the weapons in the games are some of the best i have ever seen.

A most awesome game.
