Dungeon Crawler RPG combined with a Tycoon Builder game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 11 / 13
Date: July 27, 2007

This is an excellent game, which combines elements of a Tycoon "builder" game with a classic Dungeon Crawler RPG. Your task is to build the kind of dungeon that will attract the best monsters. You need lots of twists and turns in corridors and nice rooms for the monsters to stay. The better the dungeon, the better the class of monster you attract and the more loot you get from killing them.

The fighting elements are classic Dungeon Crawler RPG, with magic spells and special attacks, combined with various weapons and armor types. You can only enter the dungeon once per day, and each day you can make a meal, which will improve your ratings after sleep.

While it is nothing groundbreaking in any area, it is a fun and easy combination of gaming types. Very much a casual game, also very easy to get caught up and play for hours.

If you build it, they will come!

I actually bought my psp for this game and D&D tactics, this is the one to rule them all for dungeon creation/diablo sims!
you start off in a town with a few shops and odd quests but this is not where the game shines nor needs to.
In this game the Dungeon Making and Monster Luring process are a blast! for instance, you get information *always useful to Donate once and a while* about a Lich hanging around the area killing people and being generally evil and such so you are asked to "invite: translation = Lure" the lich into your dungeon.
this is but one of Many, Many, quests. some unlock new rooms, weapons, armor, special items, and more. even at one point *spoiler* you get a rune on the floor and its the way into ANOTHER Dungeon! imagine my surprise! I was thinking it was a WiFi player. nope the dev team tossed in a few surprises! Very Cool! (considering I am a rabid d&d fan)
In this game to build, unlike so many other dungeon building games, you build AS YOU EXPLORE! brilliant! and run into fights etc via a isometric view diablo system or baldurs gate style gameplay.(360 degree rotatable camera a bonus and welcome too)
much different on the skill area though, spells are buyables at the store *you get 2 to start* and the most expensive are the multi enemy killers. also there is no "classes" as YOU are the dungeon builder here. think Overlord Light minus Minions. as you progress the musieum curator wants this item or that like the bone ring (which takes a few trys to get)
but here is a steak for you! BOSS BATTLES rock! yes the A.I. is not genius but they are Powerful when you first blunder into one (I went into the "boss" room I placed several times then forgot about it went back in and Wham! Dead! and it was great!)
I'm not going to name the bosses nor all the monsters but they have Undead, Kobolds, Orcs, Goblins, and Many Humanoid enemy types. New critters show up on every level you add though up to level 10. trade dungeons with your friends via wireless (AdHoc) connection and you CANNOT go deeper into a friends dungeon then your OWN dungeon Goes!
Excellent no being "Rushed" this is a masterpiece in the RPG section. this might even appeal to fans of other sims and mild hack & slashers. great for short periods or long stretches!

Graphics: a little bland but when you upgrade your dungeon you see the effect take place Immediately! 4

Sound: nifty harpsichord music *kinda like castlevania old ps1* and some odd rock 4 star

Fun and Overall: a Blast to play! 5 star!

Great for RPG Maker fans, or someone looking for a dungeon builder thats Much Less Time Consuming then this may also be for you!

Dungeon Architect needed...

An addictive dungeon crawler. If you ever took the time to design and draw out mazes on graphing paper for your home or after school DnD campaigns with friends, you are going to love this game. Design your own multi-level dungeon and wait for the baddies to come. Real time combat set in your dungeon.

For me I am not that detail oriented nor do I care to be creative. I only gave it 2 stars because I wanted something dungeon related but not this much... others will undoubtedly give it 5+ stars because it will appeal to them more than me.

I may be playing this PSP game for months! The dungeon design engine is fantastic, very easy to learn, and forgiving of the novice. I am having so much fun building dungeon levels and waiting to see what inhabitants I will discover when I return. Beautiful graphics abound, and the monsters AI is much better than many other games. It is actually hard to trick these guys into getting stuck on a square table while I keep shooting arrows across at them, or into staying still so I can hit them with my axe or sword. The quests start out fairly simple, but keep getting tougher. There is always someone asking you for help, or offering hints. Each level of the dungeon maze is rated so you can see what improvements effect your rating. Really fun and I highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys a good dungeon crawl, or is an aspiring designer.
