When I first heard about Metal Slug Anthology it was being released for the PS2 and I was a little excited but when I read the reviews for the PSP I was exctatic. This game (or games) was made for the handheld universe. It's pickup and play friendly, you can save anywhere in the game and you can set the game to give you unlimited continues. If you've never played a Metal Slug game just think Contra with its graphics and sound on steriods. The gameplay varries enough from sequel to sequel so you don't get that "didn't I play this level in the last game" feeling. On the downside some of the games (mainly Metal Slug 2) suffer from slowdown problems but these were simply inherited from it's arcade machine big brother (Metal Slug X is really just Metal Slug 2, with the slowdown fixed). The only other issue is load times, something that seems to plauge every PSP title.

I had always enjoyed playing this game in the arcades while I was growing up. I never knew that I could one day have all six games in the palm of my hand. All the games are screen for screen duplicates of their arcade big brothers. I'm very happy with my purchase of this game.

One of my favorite PSP games...

This is a great compilation of the Metal Slug series. This is a great port. I think the PSP version is perfect. This is a great game to pick up and play for a while, and finish later. It's great if you have 5 minutes to kill, or 2 hours. If you like the Metal Slug games at all, you will appreciate this compilation. Most of the games are all the same, but have enough variation to feel different from each other. The only negative I can think of is the loading times. They aren't especially long, but they happen between EVERY scene in the same level. Plus at the character select screen it takes a good 3-4 seconds each time you cursor over a different character... The loading times aren't in critical spots in the gameplay, but they do get long sometimes, and get annoying when they happen every few minutes. I would still recommend this compilation highly to anyone that likes action games, or a fan of the series.

Metal Slug - the Run 'n' Gun that's second to none!

The Metal Slug anthology is a great addition to your PSP library. 10 years after these Neo-Geo games had their arcade runs, they're now available to own on one PSP disc!

The gameplay is simplistic - just run and shoot everything and everyone that gets in your way. There's no complex backstory to follow, but with games like this, there's no need: just choose your character and let the shooting begin!

This anthology comes with the following games:

Metal Slug
Metal Slug 2
Metal Slug X
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug 4
Metal Slug 5
Metal Slug 6

Now the best part of any game is the replay value, right? Well, there's plenty of unlockables in this compilation designed to keep you coming back even after you conquer each of the seven Metal Slug games.

When you complete a Metal Slug game, you get a reward:

Completing a game on easy gives you 3 tokens.
Completing a game on normal gives you 4 tokens.
Completing a game on hard gives you 5 tokens.

With these tokens, you can unlock content to download right to your PSP and transfer to your Playstation 3 or your PC!

Unlockable content includes:

(1) Metal Slug Wallpapers & Desktop Themes
(2) Metal Slug Art Galleries
(3) Music from the Metal Slug series
(4) An interview with the Metal Slug original development team!

+ Pros:

+ 7 games at a very reasonable price.
+ High replay value.
+ Saveable progress within EACH Metal Slug game.
+ Allows selection of infinite continues for novice players.
+ Ad Hoc mode allows dual player games by connecting PSP's wirelessly.

- Cons:

- Load times diminish battery life.
- Unable to start another game at the "Game Over" screen.
- Lag times when too many characters are on-screen.

The Metal Slug anthology is perfect for those business trips or road trips - you deserve some good old-fashioned fun on your PSP.

Enjoy!

Arcade perfect port of all 7 Metal Slug games. The action, music, graphics, enemies are so engaging and intense, that the game play is heavenly. Forget the halfa.. Wii version.

If you enjoyed Metal Slug for Neo Geo, the PSP is the perfect choice. The only problem encountered is when wanting to continue. You need to go back to the Main Menu, which takes a bit of time. But, the game play has no slow down.

A Must Have!!!

The PSP version of this game has the worst load times. It takes forever just to turn the game on. The interuptions ruin the game experience and make it frustrating instead of fun.

Coming out with a Metal Slug game for the PSP was one the greatest things SNK has done. This probably has to be my favorite PSP game. I have been waiting for this type of game to come out ever since I got my PSP. Thanks to SNK, I can enjoy the fun of Metal Slug in the palm of my hand. Now if you're not so sure about getting this game, but your a big fan of shooters, don't hesitate. Buy it! You won't regret it. Playing this game when I was little thrilled and excited me. Now I can relive those moments!

Just like everyone else I awaited the arrival of this amazing masterpiece I have been Playing metal slug for years and had to emulate them or go to arcades or play bad xboxs ports and been in true video game love. and not being fortuanate enough to pick up a wii i had to await this release which was continually pushed back and ps2 still not released but that aside this was well worth the wait Metal Slug 6 never released in the U.S (ralph owns) the amazing 2d graphics Countless hours of nazi,Alien,Sasquatch,Mayan,Mummy and machine Blasting action and all portable to boot the only slight problem is a little bit of lag when you first boot up a game and the long load times but in the end a true masterpiece that cant be matched still END OF STORY

There are a couple gripes I have with the game though. When you run out of continues, it says "insert coin" which is obviously absurd because this is for psp as well as other consoles. I haven't found a way to start over without having to go back to the main menu. The loading takes quite a long time and I would recommend you power off your psp in the main menu when not playing, as the initial loading of the umd itself takes several long minutes. So it has long load times and wasn't translated over to the console 100% and still says "insert coin" once you run out of continues, oh and at some points the framerate dips down just enough to make you ache at times. These are the only real problems I've encountered.

Overall this is my favorite psp game. The art is unique and at times hilarious and over exaggerated, and the action is as good as ever. The flaws that come with it should not be enough to deter you from buying this. Not only is it fun, but it has two player cooperative mode if you have a friend with the game as well.

If you get this game it will be well worth your money and has enough content to keep you occupied for months.

You have yet to ship this game so I have no way of providing a review. So much for a Christmas present that was ordered on Nov. 20th.
