Worms.... is Worms...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 9

What else is there to say? Worms IS Worms... Crawl around... blast your pink enemies with a bazooka or a sheep... blow holes in the ground with dynamite, and then drop a hand grenade on the poor unsuspecting schlub below you? Where else can you hear a cute little voice humming while you mow down a wall of your enemies with an uzi? Even the deadly banana is available... and the sheep...

Worms is a love it or hate it game. The AI on the single player modes is slight improvement over past versions, but it's still not impressive. Besides -- the ONLY way to play this game is with friends. In single player mode, games will last NO MORE than 20 minutes, which makes for a nice little lunchtime break stress release, or a quick calm down before bed.

The backgrounds are nice, and quirky as usual. Despite complaints, there are PLENTY of weapons -- more than you would need to wreak gooey havoc.

The graphics are first rate, and the controls smooth, but I would have liked more background music choices -- I really do enjoy the different "voices" that you can assign to custom made teams. Color choices would have been a nice option -- but you cant have everything....

When playing a 1 on 3 game against PSP AI, I have found the AI logic a bit lacking. The AI goes out of it's way to attack the human player, and will forgo simple strikes against other AI players to goon up on the human player. That being said -- the 4 player human game is one of the best non-shooter multiplayer games that I have played in a long time...

******* To play this game you MUST upgrade to PSP Firmware 2.6. It is included on the game disc.

those wacky tempermental anelids.

Being a fan of the Worms games since Worms: Armageddon for PC, I was excited to learn that the PSP was getting a title of it's own. After all, there's great fun to be had blowing up cute little worms with big damn guns whilst riding shotgun during a roadtrip.

Yes, you can create your own team with worms' names as strange as only you can concieve.
Yes, you can create your own custom schemes. Want to beat the snot out of your opponents with nothing more than Ninja Rope, Kamikaze, Fire Punch, and Dragon Ball? Feel free.

However, there are some notable absences in the weapons department. I have yet to see Patsy's Magic Bullet, Homing Pigeon, Concrete Donkey, Salvation Army, Skunk, Old Woman, or (my personal favorite) HOLY HAND GRENADE. They may very well be unlockables (I sincerely hope so) or they could have been completely omitted. I've only been playing the game for a short while. Don't get entirely let down, however, if your favorite weapon isn't in the game. There are PLENTY of entertaining ways to waste worms wirelessly.

I also have yet to play opponents via Wi-Fi, but that's because I don't know anyone else with a PSP.

All in all, this game is superb fun in ways only a Worms game can be.

Its awesome

I got this thing because I am a big fan of the worms series, and was thrilled when the PSP got one. The game has several good things, such as:

-It got back to the classic 2d style, where you can sit down and play, whereas in 3d you have to pass tutorials and all that junk.

-Unlike some people say, I think that the game has plenty enough guns, and if you make your own, you can own pink worms with unlimited air strikes for example. Or how aboat a barrage of never-ending homing missles?

-The game still has the funny voices, which is good.

The bad things about this game are:

-NO HOLY HAND GRENADE! The Holy Hand Grenade was the most awesome weapon ever, and now it's gone. That is the only bad thing, but there's still plenty of guns in this game, I mean, all I REALLY use is the bazooka, air strikes, homing missiles, shotgun, grenade, cluster bomb, and uzi. That is a lot, but there are even more than that. But no super sheep..........

Worms, allways cool

This is a great addition to the worms series. Team 17 continually pumps out new versions of this game and they never get old.

What's not to like?

This is truly a game for the whole family! We had already enjoyed previous versions of this game, but as much as now. This is probably the perfect game for the PSP platform. Gameplay is not overly engaging or lengthy, so a quick game during your commute is no problem. My kids love it too, because of the humerous animations and "weapons" available for attacking your opponents.

Definitely a MUST HAVE for anyone's library.

great but dissappointing

everything that this game does have is pure worms greatness. It's a beautiful interface, and its smooth and nice to play with. However, it is lacking in almost every aspect. The arsenal is laughable at something ridiculous like fourteen weapons! have the fun was having a bazillion weapons. Also, there are very few different levels, accents, customizations, play modes, the music is repetative... overall a dissappointment. If you love the worms games you'll probably like this one, but like me you'll probably be suprised by how little stuff there is in it. Worms was fun because of the minute detail you could tweak and play with. This just misses that mark. Bottom line, I know they could do more with a PSP game, and I wouldn't buy it unless it was ten bucks or under.

Rather Shallow

Well to start off I am a big fan of the worms series and I could not wait for the games to return to their roots in 2D, However their latest outing has left me douting them. most of the hilarity of worms is there, as is the core gamplay but no custimization at all. no fun weapons either? Half assed!

unbelievable

On 4/23/08 my mom took me to the Game Exchange in Augusta Maine to trade in a few games to get some psp games.I was already certian that I was going to get Tony Hawk's Under Ground 2 Remixed. When I was deciding to get Mortal Combat or Lemings I asked the owner about the Worms Open Warfare. The owner said he liked it and I decided I would give it a shot. Oh was the guy right, the weapons in this game are amazing, the worms look so cool. Finally the best thing is you can pick where you want to be, like at the Beach,Arctic,Hallowen,Jungle,City, even outer space.Basiclly if your looking for a game that has Bombs,Mines, Exploding sheep and more ,then buy Worms Open Warfare.

ps.There is no blood in it.
