Blood, Gore, and an Amazing Soundtrack!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 6

Wow. In one word I've managed to sum up everything I think about BACKYARD WRESTLING: DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME... WOW. The game has totally blown me away. From fully interactive environments that all you to climb, pick-up, or use just about everything in the game to the most realistic usage of blood-letting I've ever seen in a wrestling video game to real life hardcore wrestling icons like SABU and MAD MAN PONDO--- this game has it all!

The soundtrack alone, featuring over 41 tracks from bands of all sorts of different music genres, shows that EIDOS had an idea to try something new and fresh with their new video game franchise. Do they ever deliver!

Out with the old, tired, and bland style of wrestling video game play and in with this amazing title. Brawls a plenty and a game that has kept myself and all my friends transfixed for the past week.

If you like wrestling, brawling, fighting games, blood, guts, gore, and/or fun--- then this game is for you. I mean, where else can you DESTROY~! the INSANE CLOWN POSSE on a regular basis?

Thumbs up. Highly recommended!

Very entertaining, easy to play

I have to admit I wasn't interested in the game when I first saw it, but now, I can't stop playing it! My friend brougth it over a few nights ago, and I got up early and bought it the next day!

It's a very fun game, there's tons to do, there's lots of weapons to use and manipulate. It's all really well done to me.

The soundtrack's HUGE. I got a copy of the SDTK for oredering and it's 2 CDs PACKED with songs.

ICP's in it, MDogg20, SABU~!, Josh Prohibition are all in it as well. It's a great game to play solo, or with friends. It won't disappoint. Give it a shot.

Decent but with quirks that I dislike

Gameplay is fun, takes a little getting used to, however the game had some quirks that I found very annoying. Now for the die hard fighting game fan, this could quite possibly be right up your alley, it is very challenging.

Like one reviewer wrote, you start out getting your a## beat. And the difficulty settings do not seem to make any impact on how tough the computer plays. If your energy is running low at the end of a fight, then it is guaranteed that you will have your a## handed to you with a supermove by the computer. Annoyingly predictable. Too add insult to injury, after you have worked hard to beat an opponent and then get beat by the next opponent, gameplay gets reset to the beginning of the level where you have to play against the person you just beat again.

Had potential, a worthy renter, but definitely not a keeper.

DON'T LISTEN TO ANY OTHER REVIEWS THAN THIS. The people who gave this game bad reviews said they played it for about 5-10 minutes. Everyone knows that games have to be played for at least an hour to get a slight feel for them. This game is a great example. This game is crashing through like 5 frontiers on it's way to glorified perfection. Everything that people mentioned was great. Soundtrack, gameplay, everything. THe create-a-wrestler is pretty bad, I must admit, but this isn't a game you bought to customize a guy getting hsi ass kicked. The part about the computer having perfect accuracy when throwing objects...he throws them to anticipate where you are going, if you have the brains to change direction after he throws it...he will never hit you. Also, you throw just as accurate as he does. The difficulty level is 3 step...like most fighting games. It is normal, hard, and porn star. It would be just the same if they called it easy, normal, and hard, or hard, superhard, and extremly hard. The first level is for beginners. This game also includes use of XBox soundtracks, and it is just amazing. Personally, I hate wrestling games. This one is jsut great beyond words. Show me a game where you can smash a lightbulb across Violent J's head, or throw a flaming bottle across a stripclub, at a fat cowboy, and I'll show yoyu a man with his mouth shut. This game earns 10 stars, the best and first of it's genre.

Wrestling in a Fantasy World

A very interesting concept. Eidos deserves kudos for the sheer creativity of setting Backyard Wrestling in a some sort of alternate universe. A wonderul universe were weapons curve mind-air to hit an opponent, where massive 3rd degree wounds hurts less than getting smacked in the head with a basketball, and a universe where ICP is cool, and not the most awful mistake in the history of the world.
Pros:
-Soundtrack (sans crappy ICP and Twiztid songs)
Cons:
-Disgustingly bad physics

-Characters that lack creativity and depth
-SSSSSSSSSlllllloooppppy combat system and controls
-Lack of variety in moves
-Sub-Par Graphics

This Game is not even worth a rental fee. It is awful.

Garbage Beyond Words Can Describe

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 2 / 3

This game's a pile garbage! The developers claimed that they wanted to create a game that lived up to the true innovation of real-life backyard wrestling. Well if this game's any indication of what backyard wrestling's really like, forget it. I rented this game the other day from my local video store. After playing about 5 minutes horrendous gameplay, I soon felt that I was ripped off out of the money I paid to rent this garbage (thank goodness for rentals). Here are some major downfalls of BW:

The character models are poor.
When characters talk, the mouths don't even move.
Computer AI is extremely cheap.
Computer has almost 99% perfect accuracy when picking up & throwing weapons from a distance at you, they almost never miss.
Create-Character-Mode is cheap beyond cheapness.
Replay value isn't great (after unlocking all the characters after one sitting, what's the point?).

Especially creating characters. The worst part of the game. Fans of WWE Create-a-character modes will be woefully disappointed. The player can't even create a character from scratch, all they can do is select a pre-made character and mobilize their stats and fighting style. You can't even develope the character's costume. All you do is choose a costume that has already been made (imagine playing a fighting game as your favorite character and choosing a different costume for them to fight in, that's technically all you can do). There aren't even many move to choose from for your character. Yes the game does have it's strong points such as taking full advantage of the X-box's custom soundtracks system, and there are some nice videos to watch in the media room (some of which have to be unlocked). However, is it really worth playing through, just for videos? What's worst is that the game doesn't even play like a wrestling game. It plays more so of that as a button-mashing fightng game. Take it from me, there are plenty of better wrestling games out there (I really feel for those who poured out their fifty bucks of hard earned cash on this title). And to those considering buying BW, avoid this title at all costs. Even WWF RAW is better!

Most frustrating pile of poo I 've ever seen

This game was cool in theory. Blood, chaos, violence, great sountrack (ESPECIALLY BECAUSE YOU CAN OMIT THE LOUSY I.C.P., TWIZTED GARBAGE SONGS!) BUUUUUT, its way too frustrating to play. You start off getting beaten and thats about it. There is no easy, beginner starting point, just yer backside getting handed to you. I didn't like it (in case you couldn't get the hint) Bought it, opened it, played it for 10 minutes, boxed it back up and returned it. That sums it up. Don't bother.

Best Wrestling/Fighting Game Available

I've played ALL the wrestling games available on the X-Box, and this one is BY FAR my favorite. What do you look for in a wrestling game? Do you look for great graphics, fast, violent gameplay, EASY controls, big environments and fun characters? How about a GREAT soundtrack, and real custom soundtrack capabilities? If that's your type of game, BUY THIS NOW. If your type of game involves complicated controls, slow action, sub-par graphics, and no fun, go pick up RAW. Seriously, Backyard Wrestling is just a fun game. It's easy to pick up, and fun to play. It's especially great in multi-player mode. But be warned, this game is NOT for kids. It features strong sexuality and curse words. For adult fun, only.
