Great Game... on XBL

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 13

You're prolly sitting there reading all these bad reviews saying tou yourself.... "Ehhh screw it, i'll get something else" We all did, Even I. But I had already reserved the game, so i said, what the hell? I got home and played the single player first(as i do with every game to get the feel for the controls) and found myself getting a little bored. So i decided to go onto XBL and try the 25 VS 25 games. I couldn't find any right away so i played in the smaller games. I was surprised to see little lagg. This was a BIG concern with me. No don't get me wrong, there was a couple times that the "game session is no longer availible" message popped up, but it went away eventually. The cool thing about that is you don't lagg out and lose your score. Anyways I played for a bit in one of the smaller games. And realized how detailed the maps were. When i say detailed, i don't mean graphics-wise, i mean how you can go on any building and snipe, go inside a lot of buildings, hide in alley-ways and wait for the unsuspecting convoy to drive by only to kill the people in the 50 cals and take them for yourself. This leads me to vehicle operation. I thought not being able to drive the vehicles would be a bad thing. I quickly forget about that. You are just TOO imersed in urban warfare you don't really care. So after a while i left and found a 50 player game. It was team king of the hill. The map this was on was perfect. There was a building in the center of the map, and both teams spawned at opposites sides, and other various spawn poitns if your team could take them over. WE both made a dash for the building and once again, no lagg. AWESOME. So anyway we make a mad dash, all the sudden bullets, rockets and grenades are flying past my ear, people are screamin medic, and the black hawks are in the air, raining bullets on my men. Then one of my men get an AT4(rpg) and blow up the chopper. I'm behind a brick wall, i can't move. There is a 50 cal in the building that will not elt up, so i tell one of my men to flank him and take the 50 over. He goes around, and kills him. We get the building and we hold it for about 7 minutes(the goal is 10 minutes) So long story short. The game went on for 3 hours! My team finally won. This is probably one of the best Online games for the xbox, if not the best. screw halo 2. This is a great buy!

Great!

I'm sure you are reading these horrible reviews and thinking to yourself why would anyone want to waste their money? Even I was sceptical of buying this game until all of my friends on live started raving about Black Hawk Down. So I said to myself what the heck BHD is my favorite movie. I played the first mission which is where you on the machine gun in the hummer. Right then I fell in love with this game. Long story short great graphics, great weapons, great play on xbox live!

Great Game - True to the Delta Force Franchise

I have played the first three Delta Force Games on the PC. I switched to gaming on Xbox right when Black Hawk Down (the 4th in the series) came out on PC and have been waiting to play it ever since. The game on Xbox turned out great. The environment have good textures and maps on Xbox Live are huge. AI and graphics on enemies could be better. But everything else is great. It keeps the feel of the original PC games. What is especially great are the 50 players per game on Xbox Live.

On another review a person complained about the horror of the historic event that the game has its premise. I would like to say that Novalogic takes its Delta Force series very serously and does not deminish the actions and bravery of the US Military have shown and continue to show to this present day. Also Novalogic is not about making money on the deaths of our brave soldiers. PORTIONS OF THE MONEY GENERATED FROM BLACK HAWK DOWN ARE DONATED TO COLLEGE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN OF SPECIAL FORCES SOLDIERS WHO HAVE DIED. Buying this game helps the families of these soldiers.

AWESOME GAME!!!!!

This game is really really cool. The levels are very fun and definitely intense. Sure the graphics aren't great but I still loved this game. If you like First Person Shooters then this is definitely a game to check out.

Same PC game, different XBOX feel

Over the last few years, the first-person shooter has evolved to becoming the best gaming genre on the XBOX and the XBOX only. PS2 and GameCube have been left behind in the dust in competition to XBOX's stellar graphics and controls. This especially goes for the first-person shooter, because the first-person shooter was, after all, inteaded to be used with a keyboard and a mouse. It's rather hard to control many actions with a controller with only five or six buttons on it, when the computer keyboard has 104 buttons on it! Then again, a game controller should be MUCH more easier to use, but that free feeling of movement with a mouse and not the jolted tedious movement of a game controller joystick, you feel as if you could go anywhere. In my opinion, playing games on the PC is much more fun than playing on the XBOX, because there is no limitation to what you could do, where it be cheat codes, online multiplayer (yes, I know Microsoft has XBOX LIVE, but must you pay a monthly fee for it?) and then MODs to download and put on the game. However, the feeling has come across that game consoles tend to have better graphics than the computer does and you don't neccessarily have to go out and buy a $300 graphics card to update the look and feel of the game: it's just there. For example, I bought "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down" on PC because the gameplay and free feeling of the mouse on the PC is fun to play with. However, I recently bought the exact same game for my XBOX because why? The graphics. It's the same game, but a different feel.

Anyways, on to the review. "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down", from Novalogic software, is a squad based (if you can call it that) first-person shooter, based on the true events that took place in Somalia in 1993, along with the 2001 blockbuster film of the same name. While many will be turned on the by title which connects to the movie's intense action, be warned, the game is more focused on the events that REALLY occured and not so much the Ridley Scott/Jerry Bruckheimer film. However, this doesn't mean that it is not action pumped and include intense combat-to-combat fighting with Somalis and Army Rangers. There are somewhat of 13 or so missions in the game that are set during America's involvment in the African country. These various tasks include rescuing a down U.N. convoy from attack, protecting Somali civilians from militia, taking out weapons caches, lending a helping hand to U.N. Pakistani troops and secret op missions taking out militia propaganda radio stations. After all of the hooplah, which after you play them once it seems more cheesy gameplay than realistic combat, you then get involved with the infamous events that took place on October 3rd, 1993, when two Black Hawk helicopters where shot down over the streets of the Somali capital, Mogadishu. While entertaining, many of the "missions" during the October 3rd event seem too "Halo"-ish than actual step-by-step historical accuracy: you are EVERYWHERE during the raid, from the beginning where you are airlifted by a little bird chopper to the roof, to the notorious humvee gaunlet. Then again, it's a video game; not a "History Channel" documentary. After all that, the final mission is the "Mogadishu Mile", where you joining a group of Rangers (in this case, only three of them) in running all the way back to safety at the Pakistani stadium while enduring heavy gunfire and no support from the convoy. Very challenging, none the less

Alright, onto the XBOX review:

The XBOX version of the game is a slightly modified, if not better version than was on PC. Because it was distributed by two more gaming companies, it's slightly better in the field of gameplay and environment. The lighting in the game has advanced and the colors are bright and fluid. The environment is much better looking than the PC version and the weapons in the game are better looking and more smooth looking than the bulky PC counterpart. The desert seems to flow with elegance with lush palm trees, although it looks more Middle Eastern than East African (in a strange coencidence, the game was originally released the same month America became involved in Iraq in 2003. Propaganda, maybe?). This version also includes maps similar to the original version, but with newly added landscape and buildings. It also includes a training mission, not included on the PC version. However, this transition to game console suffers some flaws, and one of the them is graphics. While the environment is breathtaking, the game lacks on good character design and elements. Most of my fellow soliders that were with me while I was playing looked more like mannequins, with no facial movement and doll's eyes. One level included a whole platoon of men doing excercises at a base camp. This was cool, but all the men had no eyes, lips, noses or mouths! The vehicles in the game are amazing looking, except for the Army's armored vehicle: normally, I wouldn't say "Army's armored vehicle", I would just say "Humvee", but they don't even look remotely close to Humvees! They look more like Ford pickup trucks with .50 caliber machine guns attached on top. This confused me, because in the PC version, they DID look like Hummers, but for some reason they don't in this version (quite possibly did the Ford corporation sue them for using the Humvee image without consent? Nah!) Both these transactions disappointed me, because they the graphics look bland, especially for a XBOX game. Another big flaw is the sound. Again, the weapons do not sound like their actual counterparts and they lack real "punch" to them. The AI in the game is relatively weak; your squad mates aren't the brightest bulbs in the attic and the somali militia shoots so randomly that you don't need to take cover when being shot at.

Overall, it's a fun game to play, if you want a good historical shooting game set in the middle east or modern combat. But if you want to play a highly intense combat set in the middle east, or modern day combat, play "Battlefield 2".

PROS
-Nice historical side note
-Beautiful scenery and environment
-Fluid weapons look
-Urban comabt is intense and rough
-Good unofficial movie tie-in

CONS
-Bulky, unattactive character models
-The game A.I.....can you say "Retarded"?
-Guns sound like Airsoft rather than actual firefight.
-Missions are more fantasy than reality

Decent Game But could Use Improvement

I got this game for Christmas, seeing it was top price in stores I figured it must be a hell of a game. I had recently rented it from Blockbuster, and gotten far but then had to return it last summer. As soon as I got it I started playing it full shift like must people would intill I beat it. Then my friend came over and we played cooperative which only had about 5 levels to play on out of 20(except for death match). And on top of that when I was shooting my M16A2 with and M203 grenade launcher attchment. The bullet flash was not even coming out of the barrel it was coming out of the air! And if you look at and AK-47 when you kill a Somilian terrorist there guns don't have any triggers. The official guide does not have any either! I overall enjoy it! But I would maybe consider renting it first.

The game lacks some minor details....

Well first off the game is awsome, but it lacks graphics. The campaign was fun. It includes an "Auto-Aim" function for noobs(I guess)which dosnt help much. If you have Xbox Live, then most likely check this out. It holds upto 50 players(which can sometimes be very "Laggy". They rank you in offical Army ranks. The only XBL flaw is that if your doing good and the host leaves you dont gain or loose(good thing if your doing bad)experience. You gain XP for Killing and get bonus points for snipes and other things. You loose XP for dieing and team killing(if permitted by host). It has a wide variity of Gametypes on XBL DM,TDM,TKOTH,CTF,SD,and many more. If you like FPS's or just a good and fun experience on XBL or in Campaign, deffinitly check this game out.

I think this game has lots of good things about it.For one I have seen the movie Black Hawk Down about 6 times,And novalogic really went pretty close on basing it to the movie and the real war.For people that like lots of blood this game does not have it,but it does have pretty good graphics, good first person view,
and a whole lot of other detailes that really caught the eye.I like the selection of weapons, and how you use them in the game.
Now for people with a short memory and slow reflexes it might be hard to switch from single fire and burst ect. But for people that have played halo and beat it on Legendary I think fast reflexes will not be a problem. Now comparing it to DELTA FORCE LAND WARRIOR I think black hawk down is far better!! I would say that people should rent this game first like every other game.

I enjoyed this game

I don't care what many people on Amazon said about this game. I enjoyed it. Some parts (like the mine field) were irritating and difficult. Don't compare this to Halo (if that is what you are doing). Halo is a great game in it's own right. Everyone has a right to thier opinion and this is mine. There were some glitches, but it didn't take away how fun it is and how some parts made me think.
