Trailer Park Tycoon - A Low Class Tycoon Game

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 38 / 38
Date: December 15, 2003
Author: Amazon User

I must admit, after seeing the screenshots and hearing about the game, I was pretty disappointed in the retail version of this semi entertaining, but screamingly incomplete (say another 6 months in production?) game.
There are 4 scenarios, 4 places to do the sandbox thing, and 2 little tycoon campaign things. They are all pretty similar looking, except for the choice of objects and goals. And they are short.
The saving grace of the game is that it is funny. The concept is fab. The ornaments are as trailer trash as you can get, and very highly detailed.
For the first few hours you find yourself laughing and guffawing, but then suddenly you see it. Are blinded by it in fact. Trailer Park Tycoon is ok for a laugh, but it is a bad game. The game play is awkward, the sound is terrible, and there are quite a few problems which pop up during the game. If I hadn't purchased it in a store, I might have though it was a beta copy. It feels so incomplete somehow, like with more attention to the game play and micromanagement aspects of the game and less to the "fun" it could have been a good game. No matter how funny a game is, if it's awkward and irritating the fun won't last long.
The people are mildly amusing, which is ruined by the fact that they often get unhappy and you don't even know the reason, and if you do, there is little you can do about it since the game gives you predesigned spaces to lay down trailers and amenities. If someone wants to wash their shirt, you can't move the laundry mat any closer, only into the spaces already given for amenities. And they are not very articulate - in fact all they ever say is Wah Wah Wah (yes, like babies)Please note if you are looking for a sim type game, this is not it. The "direct control" you get over your residents consists of clicking on them and then another person. And watching them either fight or shake hands. It isn't even neccessary to pay attention to the sim aspect in this game.
Nothing can be rotated, and there are a limited number of trailer types and ornaments. Each resident who lives in a trailer wants different things - coolness vs oldschool and trashy vs flashy. These are affected by the type of trailer and the type of decorations placed around the trailer. Because of the limited number of decorations though, at later stages of a scenario you find the game becoming like one big puzzle trying to fit in decorations so they affect 3 trailers instead of 1 etc. Let me tell you, it is BORING and repetitive and this new take on tycoons does not get me. Maybe with more work and ironing out of details, but as it is trailer park tycoon stands as a mildly interesting BUDGET tycoon, but nothing more.
2.5 Stars.

Dissapointed

When I read the first two reviews for this game I bought it, thinking it might be fun. I was wrong. It's horrible. It's boring after the first five minutes. All you can do is put trailors down and then you have to keep putting things around the trailor to keep people happy. You can't see the inside of the trailors or see the people interact with eachother or their homes. This game is REALLY bad, don't waste your money.

Game Does NOT Run on Windows XP

I also have Windows XP and cannot even launch this game. Since the system requirements are for "Windows 95 or better," this is very unfortunate and misleading. At least it wasn't too expensive so the money I wasted on purchasing this game was limited.

Decent for a Tycoon game

Bought full version and enjoyed it for a few days.. It is great for those who want a quick game, but I like the drawn out scenerios like Civilization, Sim City and Roller Coaster Tycoon.
I do recommend it, but be warned if you desire deep thought sims.

Not Worth All the Trouble it Takes to Install!

This game is tacky, and I assume is thought to be funny by some people. Installation was a nightmare. Overall, the gameplay is hardly entertaining and gets old very, very quickly. It's obvious that the creators of this game did not take the proper amount of time to truly make it fun. The overall concept is great, but the actual game is absolutely not!

Wow! A sleeper hit!

I downloaded the demo version of this on a lark 'cause it sounded kind of funny. What a surprise I got when my girlfriend and I both loved playing it. In fact, we've been taking turns playing it for two straight days now. I've called all around trying to get my hands on the full version and everyone in my area is sold out. The last person I talked to at one of the EB's said the game is being highly sought after by many. I guess a lot of folks found the demo as much fun as we did. I can't wait to get my hands on the full version. Great job jaleco! Hope to see more good stuff in the future!

Disappointing, to say the least.

I am running a system with Windows XP, and this game will not run. All I get is a Truth Engine error message, then the program shuts down. Have had no response from tech support at Jaleco. I would not buy this particular title, or any title from Jaleco in the future.

Trailer trash...

It was inexpensive, so I should have expected to get what I paid for. But, I didn't even get that! Don't bother. I don't.... I played it once, and I was disappointed, later I gave it another chance, but I was right the first time.

A hoot to play!

'Ya gotta love a game with it's tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Personally I don't play games on my computer, the last one I bought was 'Riven'

I just wish there was the ability to have a totally free-form mode to play with no set time frame.
The 'decorative' items I wish there were more of, as well as Amenities and Trailers. I was so hoping to craft 'Lawn Flamingo Acres' with *tons* of these pink plastic horrors all over the place.....but alas!.....no.
Nevertheless it's still pretty fun.

Fun but could use some work

I actually enjoy this game but I admit it could use some work. There should be more themes to play and just a better quality over all. It is a great laugh and it's amusing until you beat everything! It's not expensive so if you are bored and want a few laughs I reccomend it.
