Fun, but not great

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 5

Overall, this game was fun and enjoyable, although it is a rehash of things already done. Graphics and sound are good but not awe inspiring, gameplay is fun and quick. Once you completed it, there is little reason to do it again. After using multi-player, I found the game a bit easier in single player mode as you didn't have to share experience or gold so the single character gained levels and equipment faster than with multiple characters. This was a great game to rent, but I would never buy it.

Overall Great Game......Especially 4 player co-op!!!!!!!!!!

Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes ...... can be darn fun, the highlight being the 4 player co-op which makes this game different from most of the other games on the market!!! Well, it's the same old, same old, with the Gaunlet/ Dialbo feel and the Balder's Gate look!!!

The game isn't perfect either.....!!! Don't get me wrong it is a great game but, nothing special, well except for the 4 player co-op which keeps this game fun!!! I will admit the environmets were vast and unique, along with plot twists, nice weapon/magic combinations, side quests, and boss battles, along with the search for the for the 20 soul shards!!! The soul shards basicaly power up your weapon, for each 5 your main weapon powers up to a new level!!!

Yeah, Yeah but if you play straight through the game you could beat anywhere from 10-14 hours!!! The boss battles are fairly easy, and the game is pretty easy, the only challenging part would be finding all the soul shards... which actually wasn't hard either!!! The camera gets on my nerves at times, and the gameplay gets bland and repetive after awhile!!! Their may be vast power up options and so-on, like I said it's the same stuff from most RPG's!!! The only two things that make this game stand out from the rest is the: Dunegons and Dragons name and .... of course the co-op!!! You choose from the: Fighter/Human, Cleric/Dwarf, Wizard/Elf, and the Rogue/Halfling... all 4 heroes who defeated the evil wizard Kaiden, now 150 later they are called upon again to save Baele from the ressurected and very much still evil Kaiden!!! Nice, story.....huh!!!!

Yes,Dungeons and Dragons is fun, in fact a must have for any fan, but it could have been better!!! Just look at new next gen RPG's like: Fable, Star Wars: KOTOR, Star Wars: KOTOR 2, and Jade Empire!!! Although, D&D has the co-op and classic feel, it can't compare to the games listed above!!! Maybe back in 99' or 00' this would have been a great, and new innovative game, but being a good game, in an industry filled with awesome games it will be over looked!!!

Pro:
-Great news for Dunegons and Dragons fans
-4 player co-op
-Nice Magic and Fighting combinations
-Nice Environments
-Lot's of cool enemies
-A lot of player options
- When Gaunlet meets Balder's Gate
- Great Concept
- Classic RPG feel!!!

Cons:
-Nothing original
-Bad camera
-Not as fun in single player mode
-Gets old after awhile
-Falls short of expetations, graphic wise!!!
-Sometimes Freezes Up!!!
-Gosh, just like mostly any other RPG, not innovative!!!

As you can see this game has a lot of faults along with a lot of good features, but the 4 player co-op, game play variety, along with the vast environments make you forget about most of the faults!!! Overall, I suggest you at least rent it, if not buy it great game 4/5 stars!!!

Meh.. its fun. Diablo and Gauntlet style.

If your a fan of Gauntlet for the N64 or PS/PS2 then this is a game for you! Its more fun when you have a full 4 party set and everyone joins in. However you can easily play this alone.

Basically its a mix of Gauntlet style fighting and action, with Diablo style character handling and powerups.

The game has some nice graphics to it and well.. all though its a good step in the right direction. It was not what I was expecting.

Was kinda hoping for a style closer to the old D&D games for the PC more customizing and so..

Sad that you cant customize your character or the stats of them to make it FEEL more your own or that your in a D&D game.

As I said, its more like Gauntlet, where you choose one character to be and you build it up with whatever else on your own.

Being that, I dont know too much about replay value, however its a fun mindless game when your bored or just want to play in a group or party. But alone, you probably will get bored.

For parents: This is a good game to buy if you have 2 kids or more and want them to play at the same time. Good type of game for them to play since its not split screen gaming or so.

Great Multi-Player Game

What do you get when you combine four resurrected heroes, an epic quest and support for up to four players? A great game!

The basic premise of Heroes is that a great threat has returned to the land - a threat that had been previously dispatched by four great heroes. Fortunately, due to the magic of reincarnation, the four heroes have been brought back to try to do it again. Unfortunately, for whatever reason (they don't really go into this) they are only a shadow of their former selves and must reclaim their glory in the tradition dungeons & dragons style: by gaining experience from exploring, solving puzzles and (of course) killing monsters. There's another twist in this game though: each character has an ancestral weapon that will grow in strength as the hero finds "Soul Shards" that cause it too to regain its former glory.

The game is well thought out and will take most about ten to fifteen hours to finish. It combines a variety of monsters and challenges in a variety of interesting scenes ranging from Castle Bale (which becomes the central nexus of the game) to the elemental planes. The monsters are interesting as well including fire elementals, undead and many types.

The movies and animations, while not photo-realistic, are pretty good. The UI is one of the best I've seen for this type of game. Especially well done is the interface for special moves and spells, the ability to map them to controller buttons and even change them quickly.

The game has a few small drawbacks, in multi-player mode you are required to stay on the same screen-view as your co-players. This can cause players to get stuck in an area, and force the others to backtrack to let him or her out.

Overall, Heroes is a great game. It is an especially good pick for groups of gamers wanting to go through a quest together (1-4 players supported, local only - no xbox live support).

Best with Friends!

Ok, so let's be honest with each other. Heroes is a pretty typical dungeon crawl with lots of pretty pictures and phat loot. That's not what's cool about this game, that's just an entry level requirement these days.

What is truly fun about this game is playing it with your friends after 2am. Throw all your points into Meteor Swarm-like spells, buy potions...and watch everything you come across get decimated. Perhaps I'm regressing back into my teenage years, but there is something gleeful about filling the screen with Meteor Swarms from one angle, Flame Strikes from another, Magic Missiles all around, and Storm of Vengeance pounding down...there were so many magical effects at once we had no idea if the bad guys were still alive or even where we were on the screen. The smoke would clear and my guy would be in a corner attacking the wall...it was great!

Perfect recipe for a night of ridiculous entertainment with like-minded geeks :)

20 hours of fun

This game, while worth the 20 hours my brother and I spent on it disappointed us in the end. Perhaps if we had played on the toughest skill level it would have been more challenging. The objective was reached without much trouble in a "hack and slash" style. Disappointing ending for a pretty good game.

Slash and hack and hack and slash!

This game makes me think back to the D&D arcade game in the early nineties. That game rocked- it was made up entirely in the Dungeons and Dragons world, but it wasn't an RPG at all. A side-scrolling swordswinger, "Heroes" is great for both ends of fantasy-enthusiasts. For the spell shooter/sword swingers out there, you've got plenty of button mashing action. For the RPG fans, you've got a great character advancement system to keep you occupied.

Overall, this game is great except for the idiotic voice performances and the ridiculously weak storyline. However, for those who don't mind those kinds of flaws, you've got one hell of a game ahead of you.

i dont play d and d with books but like this game allot, its much better than guantlet!! You can be 4 diffrent heros and their all diffrent from each other and have spells that kick but and can destroy tons of diffrent monstres as long as you have enough will power. i'm in the bone necrplois now and my dwarf is like gimley from the loard of the rings, very tough but can cast spells too. my brother uses the fighter becase hes easier which is good because he is only almost nine. this game rulez!!!

good, but limited

I finished this game in three days... so there is not a lot to it. It is a real hack and slash type game, not a lot of character development in this one... it's the kind of game where your thumb gets sore. The view of your character would sometimes get obscured by walls, trees, you name-it, so that could be a bit annoying. The graphics are good, the sound is great, the effects are cool. You have an "ancestoral weapon", so you are not really encouraged to try others. I only did the one player game, so maybe the Xbox live aspect might make it a better game.

Baldurs Gate 2 wait not so bad with this one

I would have given this a 4.5 but i will round up rather than down. This is a very good game in a lot of respects - heres why.
First, graphically the game is excellent with very little to complain about if any. The four player simultaneous play is just awesome with very little lag or lost graphics with all that is going on during the game. Very similiar to Buldars Gate Dark Alliance but with a few changes. Nothing worth running down one or the other. Both are very good - I have waited for the sequel to BGDA since the 1st week after I beat it. This game is very challenging and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed this type of hack and slash type genre. Monsters are where the game really takes a jump above BGDA. There are alot and they are very different as you change geographical area, very nicely done and keeps your interest. Leveling up is a little more complex that BG but is very easy to adjust to. You can also use the same character as a partner you play with also very cool. There is the same flaw as in BG in that you can give items and leave game without saving and still have same items when you reload so rare items and money can be duplicated over and over - try to be honest and enjoy the game longer. I still havent beat it yet but like the game a whole lot, dont wait to get it yourself it is worth the money and the time - at least until BG2 come out in Dec.

Update-
I have beaten the game now and here is the rest of the story. Nice ending and good last boss. Not overly complicated to figure out how to beat him or even get to the end. More fun than challenging really but a very cool game just the same. Finding all the gems is getting me a little miffed though. It is awesome to be able to play 4 players at the same time. This is a very sweet game and my one and only complaint is that it is too short. Same as BGDA, possibly the only hack and slash I have played that is long enough is Diablo II expansion. Maybe an expansion in the future for Heroes?? Can't wait for BGDA2!
