overview of the game

Tactical combat games are evolving, and this game allows urban warfare to take a higher step up. Traditionally speaking, it has always been the tactically minded PC gaming crowd that's enjoyed these ultra-realistic types of games, but this game was designed for the xbox. With a beefed up AI system, this game allows more realistic reaction to urban combat (stance, formation, ROE, using cover for protection. This game removes the first person shooter aspect--although you will not shoot directly(pull the trigger) you can give commands as to where to point the gun and shoot or throw a nade', move individual warriors to where you want them. This forces people to use cover more, rewards brains instead of fast trigger fingers, and allows you to connect with your platoon (you even read the letters they write home), soldiers distribute ammo among each other, soldiers work with each other(one will crouch down while another stands when around a corner to maximize covering fire). It even takes other factors like damage to buildings, being sensitive to their culture(enter a mosque, you can't fire your weapon-thus alternative solutions are required), securing the dead-remove their weapons so other can't get the gun-or children, ROE (rules of engagment) This game was designed for the military first, but they made some modifications for the customer version (make it more fun), more storyline(completing the process by adding what many shooters lack, a good story to motivate the player) and it has xbox live! Graphic wise, it looks like eye candy, and I brought the xbox system specifically for this game. Many people will be turned off by the lack of firstpersone shooting, but I believe they made the right choice because too many games are too much of a run-n-gun type--even american's army (although they made it realistic) has too much of a run-n-gun type situation. Sure, gamers don't really care to play an Army simulator that operates with excruciating realism, but full spectrum warrior has a good blend of tactical, squad-based gameplay and hardcore action together. With many games hitting the market promising a realistic combat experience it is nice to see a team actually developing a game with just that. Full Spectrum Warrior promises to be the first in what could be its own genre of games.

This game is amazing

In response to the idiot from Bronxville...

People can play games before they're officially released to the general public. I played this game at the THQ booth at E3 in Los Angeles for about an hour. It is amazing. The AI is spectacular, as are the graphics, sound, and playability. This is truly the next generation of tactical "war sims".

And to Saraa from UK...

This game is set in the fictitous country of Zekistan. It has nothing to do with Iraq or violence against Muslims. In fact, one of the main characters in the game is a devout muslim who is also a member of the U.S. military.

I am currently deployed in a combat zone in Afghanistan. And I thought your comments about this game were harsh to say the least. I can tell you that our training for being in a combat zone is a lot more intense than sitting on our couch eating chips, drinking a beer, and playing an X-Box Game. This game I am planning on buying just for the simple fact that it is a cool idea and its an Army Game. I am not buying it to brush up on my combat skills. This is just a "VIDEO GAME" that is meant to be fun, for us IN or that believe in the military, as well as those like you that don't have the GUTS to put your life on the line for something greater than yourself.

This game is the best strategy game I have ever played and it has realistic people in it with real battles. The soldiers are down to earth and are aware of their surroundings and they don't do stupid things that you tell them to do like shoot their own teammates. The blood and gore in it is realistic and it is very awesome.

Amazing Strategy and Tactics for the Mature Gamer

Full Spectrum Warrior is an amazing squad-based strategy game that was developed by the military. It focusses on two squads protecting each other and taking out the enemy.

First off, this is a MATURE title. It is about violence and real-life soldier situations. While it is not a first person shooter - you aren't actually pulling the trigger - you are ordering soldiers into difficult situations. There is also heavy swearing in some situations.

For adult gamers, though, this is an AMAZING game. Each team has members with different personalities. The clothing, movementse and weaponry are all quite accurate. Probably the only real complaint is that the grenade from the M203 seems to have a little rocket in its tail given how it moves :) This was certainly a game the military had some feedback in.

The graphics are stellar, as you might expect on the XBox or PC. There are birds flying around and landing. Trees have leaves, buildings have porches. The sky has clouds and the grass has spots of dirt or moss. You really feel like you're moving through a real city and down real streets.

The audio is also very well done. You hear the boots running over concrete and dirt. The 'tutorial voice' sounds like it's coming in over a radio. The various soldiers have unique voices and attitudes. The weaponry all give accurate sounds as well.

The squad movements are extremely well done, with the soldiers acting like REAL well-trained soldiers. You don't have to tell them how to take cover or shoot - you move them from location to location and they take cover appropriately. It's very easy to get the hang of movements and actions - and a great mental challenge to strategize the best solution to a given mission.

You can do coop in XBox Live, but there's no way to do head to head. The point being that you are playing the Army here against terrorists - and the game doesn't give you the ability to be a terrorist. While that might annoy some people, it really is in keeping with the mission of the game. The game is about training soldiers who are street wise, but who understand how to safely move through an area, only taking out the "bad guys". There are even restrictions about not firing in religious areas and not leaving behind guns for innocent civilians to hurt themselves with. If the game let you "be" the terrorists and shoot the soldiers, it would send quite the wrong message.

Highly recommended for any military / strategy lover - but definitely a game for the mature gamers.

I really like this game. It's obvious that Pandemic was working in very close conjunction with the U.S. Armed Forces. My only problem I had with this game was after 3-4 hours of play the game began to get that not so fresh feeling. Also, the cursing and insobordination of soilder's leaves me to suggest this to 15 year olds and up(There is a lot of cursing I'm talking about the F--- word being used very flagrantly). As my title says, you must ,let me emphasize this ,MUST UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DO NOT SHOOT. now that that is out of the way you must know something else. This game emphasizes all the SF stand for "TACTICS BEAT FIREPOWER". So,in conclsion if you have no problem with a man shouting the "motherload" and the player not firing his gun, this game is going to make you happy. Get love it and never take it out of your 'box.

Amazing, Innovative, and Fun = Full Spectrum Warrior

I will start by saying that this game has been in development for a while. The games idea and story were written in 2000. This was before 9/11 and the War in Iraq. The games actually development start was months before we sent troops in to Iraq.

So no, THQ did not cash in on modern day affairs. What they did do is create a simply outstanding game.

This is not a first person shooter. In fact, you never pull the trigger in this game. Think of FSW as a real time strategy game. While I wont expatiate on the plot and storyline, you will be in control of two squads, Alpha and Bravo, each consisting of 5 men with their own abilities ( i.e. sniper, riflemen, etc). You control these two groups and can instruct them on where to stand, aim, what to shoot, formations, where to go, etc.

The real fun is on Xbox Live, where one person will control the Alpha squad, the other the Bravo squad. Its very fun communicating and coordinating with people you have never met before.

I think by now people will know whether this game is for them. This game is innovative, you wont find anything else like it. A game (or simulation, rather) like FSW is actually used to train soldeirs on urban combat. OF COURSE, the game was altered a great deal to appeal to consumers like you an me, so therefore confusing tactics were left out, graphics were updated, etc.

If you want something different, where you may actually have to think and plot attacks, then FSW will not dissapoint.

This game rocks!

i reserved this game and Halo2 today and i decided i would try to fined more about it so i read some reviews. i was a little skeptical when i read you don't get to kill people yourself so i went to THQ's website and watched a few videos. it has a very good button layouts, great graphics, and overall it looks like a pretty cool game. don't get me wrong, thin is DEFINITELY NOT NEAR AS GOOD AS HALO2 WILL BE, but still a real neat game.

(...)

The woman / college girl who's probably sleeping with her professor is a total uninformed fool.

This game is based solely on tactics and real life situations. Being the game used to TRAIN MILLITARY SOLDIERS, it has to be used for real life events. And currently, the middle east waging open war on all "infidels" happen to be that. Possibly the best part of this game, happens not to be the aspect of not being a "Serious Sam" or a "Painkiller" (both good games) but the way your troupe huddles around you when you're stopped to treat an injured soldier, ONE OF YOUR OWN, and how you have to lay surpressing fire for that soldier to live and be brought back to a safe zone.

Another fascinating part about this happens to be the urban warfare. Again to Saraa, if we were fighting the turks, the chekz, or the Chineese (which i never hope we do because they make some **** good food) we would be modeling enviroments after those urban zones for, again, reality training. The details are rich and far better than anything you could find in Kill.Switch.

Again, this was a beautifully made game and focuses primarilly on team work, something if you play RB Raven Sheild online, most gamers are severely lacking.
