Incredible gameplay and graphics

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 33 / 36

007 Nightfire is out for all major platforms, in time for the latest Bond film. The graphics are stunning, gameplay is amazing. Well worthy of the series!

I'm a huge fan of the Bond games, and we have all of the previous ones. We got this one as soon as it came out, and were definitely not disappointed!

The graphics are a huge step up from previous versions. In the first 'training' mission, you're driving a car through city streets. The lights reflect off of the curves of the car, you can see inside to all of his controls and movements, the dents show up realistically, the back up lights glow softly, and if you bash it a bit, the trunk comes loose. The city around you has cobblestone streets, water rippling, streetlights that come down when you hit them. The attention to detail is just amazing!

As you then move on through the various levels, you see this same level of detail everywhere. From the Austrian castle and other alpine scenes, to the city scenes, watery scenes and more, each really shines.

The plot is very engaging and typically Bond. But in an attempt to show that this isn't about violence - he's a SPY after all, not a Rambo - you get bonus points for being stealthy instead of blasting in with guns, and for stunning or capturing enemies instead of killing them.

In fact, just about every area can be 'accomplished' in many ways. Bluster your way into an objective by a full frontal assault ... or sneak in the side way for extra points. Since you're also rewarded for your time and health, often the sneaky, non-violent way is the best.

You've got a huge array of equipment, weapons, armor and vehicles, and all work just the way you'd expect them to. I found the default controller configuration REALLY annoying, but a quicks stop in the config area got it back to the way I'm used to playing.

Plus, there's multiplayer! Play with up to four people at once on REALLY great maps with quite a bit of customization options on each one. Grab some bots for practice, and play arena, team arena, king of the hill, capture the flag, or other game types.

Definitely worthy of the Bond series, and highly, highly recommended to any first person shooter fan!

Nightfire or just Under Fire?

James Bond 007: Nightfire offers incredible graphics and clever similarity to the nostalgia of the 007 legacy; however, in terms of gameplay and features, Nightfire has few attributes which place it above all previous 007 games. The story mode is very short, in fact I finished the game the night I bought it, and consider myself a mediocre gamer. Instead of having more levels, the game is intended to be played repeatedly in an attempt to "earn" all of the upgrades...a boring plan to extend gameplay. Unfortunately for 007, the release of Timesplitters 2 set higher expectations than Electronic Arts could have anticipated when they conceived the limited multiplayer features--which are more limited by having most features locked. Making things more difficult, the game limits which characters may face each other in Multiplayer Maps--why can't Bond and Zoe Nightshade face off in a multiplayer shoot-out? Even more bothersome, many of the upgrades and game concepts--gold rewards...ha ha ha--came directly from Agent Under Fire. EA fell quite short of the competition this Christmas with this release in light of Timesplitters 2 which boasts 100 playable characters, 76 game levels, system link mode, and enough challenges to last for several continuous weeks. As for Nightfire, rent before you buy!

Great single player, poor multiplayer

As the title of this review suggets, the single player aspect of nightfire has quite a lot to offer. The game touts good graphics, smooth action, and pretty good sound. It does a ggod job mixing up the action (first person shooter with a bit of driving crazyness thrown in to boot) and fans of Medal of Honor will appreciate the "i am riding in a vehicle shooting a big gun" parts of nightfire. The AI of the enemies is pretty good, but not much of an improvement over what the originator of the bond series (goldeneye) had to offer. The array of gadgets is fun to play with and the weapons are well balanced. All of these things are well implimented and run together smoothly adding up to a decent, though very average, first person shooter. What saves this game from this fate and makes the single player a great experience is the non-linearity of the levels. There are several ways to complete most of the levels, and this added depth, with its emphasis on stealth really adds alot of depth to the gaming expereince that nightfire offers. All in all it makes quite a fun little game.

The multiplayer is another option, however. There were some good ideas implimented in the multiplayer portion (bots and lots of cool senarios). However, there is one glaring problem, the weapons are poorly balanced. There are far too many WAY too powerful weapons. I belive that weapons balancing is one of hte most critical parts of a good multiplayer game. Poorly blalanced weapons turns most matches into a game of who has the big gun, not who is the better gamer. It also makes the enjoyment of the multiplayer highly dependent on the set of weapons that you choose, thus eliminating much of the variety that could have been offered. This is pretty much ruined the multiplayer aspect for me.

All in all Bond is an above average game; a great single player game teammed up with a truly disapointing multiplayer game.

But, that is just my opinion.

Nightfire shines for the Bond elements - the quips, the women, the villians. The game plays like the movie with it's own musical score to boot. Contrary to the other reviews, I found that the game plays alright and it was obviously developed for the lowest platform and ported to others. Yes there are quirks (the Walther outpowers a Kowloon Automatic?), but the simplicity of the game makes for a less tedious affair (with a trade off for depth) than a more complex title like Splinter Cell. Make no mistake however, Nightfire will not match the graphics of Splinter Cell or Halo, so don't expect it.
What one should expect is a fairly entertaining, mindless joyride - especially to bond fans. This game will appeal to those that like to play in 60 minute increments (esp. those that hold a job but find time to play a bit at night). The missions are perfectly paced for one or two an evening and that is fine. If you are an UT deathmatch player type (you know who you are) you will be very bored with this very quickly and miss all the inside jokes and innuendo. Especially if you never saw the original Bond movies - you will certainly miss many of the inside jokes. And sadly, $... is a lot to ask of a kid for really only about 8 to 10 hours of gameplay. Rent Nightfire if this sounds like you.
This is where the console gaming industry has finally hit a crossroads and some titles, such as this, may have been intended for all audiences, but are going to appeal more to adults given its pace and price range.

Wow, this game is good!

I am a Bond fanatic and I bought this to see how it compared to agent under fire. No comparision! This games is just so much better it is unbelievable. Multiplayer is terrific with bots (so you don't have to threaten a sibling to play) and tons of characters and more unlockable ones. To the person who said that there is no goldfinger- you can use the code, party, and unlock goldfinger and many more characters. The campaign mode is alright, I found it to be a bit hard. Not in terms of killing people but I got lost a lot. The graphics are XBOX quality and the guns look great and shoot great. The multi-player levels are also fun. In some there are chairlifts which you can ride on and shoot people from above. If you have unlocked him, be oddjob in multi-player because his hat is a one-hit kill. On one multi-player level, ravine, the technology (A very important chairlift) is too hard for the bots so you can't use them on that level. Hope I didn't waste your time with this interview.

Best Bond game ever

This Bond game has a great plot. It may be a little out there at times, but is very enjoyable. Like "Agent Under Fire"game it was an original plot, but unlike it, I feel this plot was much more practical (in comparission). The best part was the multi player maps and actual characters from the movies (you can even use odd jobs hat as a wepon which kills in one hit). The addition of the self guided rockets make the multi player map much more challenging if you play with either bots, or real people.

Awesome Bond Game

Who dosen't love Bond? The guns, the action, the suspense, and the fancy tux and the cars. It all adds up to an awesome video game. Many have been made about the Bond series, but this is the newest. In the game you play, James Bond 007 agent in his new set of adventures that range from infiltrating a castle, protecting a French agent in Paris, destroying missles in outer space, and driving an underwater submarince.

The game is mad fun for the 1-player mode. You see the screen as if out of your eyes, meaning you don't see yourself- only the view in front of you. This style of play allows an awesome shooting game. Throughout the levels, you must stop Drake and his men from their evil plots, which means ALOT of gun action and suspense. It is a very fun and non-stop action.

This game has excellent graphics, the music is awesome, and the "suspense music" allows thrilling fights to be amplified. The sounds of the guns and the effects are just amazing. Mostly the game is very fun to play. Shooting with the many guns experienced are just fun. The vairety of guns are amazing from the Sniper Rifle, to the Grenades, the tribombs and mines, to the pistols, to my favorite: the rocket launcher. The game is one of the best in the action.

The coolest thing about Nightfire is the multi-player action. There is just so much to do. Various modes include the Death Match, Team Arena, King Of The Hill, Assasination, and much more. There are awesome gameplay options that allow mini-vecihles: helicopters and tanks, and there are plenty of other options. You can choose the types of guns in each level or make them completly random. You can customize computer opponents, and play on various stages.

Nightfire is an excellent game, and I certaintly reccomend it to any action-shooting game fans. Bond rules, and so does this awesome video game.

Aging but still very solid.

Nightfire was released in 2002 and still 4 years later it stands strong. It is not as good a game as Everything or Nothing but from a first person shooter's stand point the game is very solid. The vehicle levels are very good as well. Your V12 Vanquish and other vehicles like snowmobiles will provide for some of the best chases ever in a Bond game. The game is a bit too short overall but is catchy enough for the Bond name. The story is interesting and the multiplayer is pretty fun. I can say with a clear consciense that if your a fan of Bond or just an action fan, nearly four years after it's release, Nightfire is still a solid choice when looking for a new game.

EA still hasn't gotten Bond right. It's not terrible, but it's not great.

First of all, it's pretty short. 11 missions, and not very long missions at that. The a.i. is tolerable, but the only reason the a.i. gets you is because the game throws wave after wave of them at you, not because they're actually intelligent. I breezed through the first half of the game, but then it got tedious. There's a part where you are out amongst cranes and crates trying to fight off snipers on the roofs. Problem is, you can't really see them, and there's so many of them you can't get out a shot without being torn to shreds. It's sort of like EA thought that part in Half-Life where you fight those fast ninja-like assassins was really great and they'd try knocking it off. It failed.

Mostly, the last half of the game felt like that. EA being cheap to make up for poor a.i. and me just speeding through everything I could, taking plenty of damage, but squeezing out nonetheless.

You get to drive an underwater version of the Aston Martin in the game too. It's cool for the first minute and a half, but then you have to navigate through an underwater mine field in a very tight tunnel and that's when the icky control problems really make themselves known and next thing you know KABOOM.

But there are some fun parts. The tutorial mission is actually quite good. I had a blast on the first rail shooter level, and the first vehicle driving level. The level where you fight your way down the skyscraper is intense and fun.

The multiplayer is decent, but EA's little GOOD or BAD thing is here again, as it was in The World is Not Enough for N64. This means Bond is GOOD, and so are the Bond girls, and so they cannot fight each other. Ever. The BAD players can fight each other all they want, because, you know, BAD people do that. But not GOOD. Nope. This is annoying because you get your round setup and everything, and you're like "THIS IS GONNA BE SO COOL" and then it tells you that you can't have GOOD players fighting each other. It's even worse than it was in TWINE, too, because TWINE at least had a lot of characters.

The multiplayer levels are kinda blah, too. And there's not many of them.

The bots are ok because you can alter the characterstics of the generic characters. Sadly, you can't do this for the characters you unlock which is annoying.

The gamemodes they introduced probably seemed good when they were making them, but they're not very good here. Goldeneye strike, where you collect two halves of the goldeneye key and one person is automatically struck dead, sounds pretty neat, yeah? Too bad it's kinda confusing, and the deaths are very anticlimatic. King of the Hill would be good if it had a Mobile Hill option instead of just fighting it out in one spot the whole time.

But still, there is at least an ounce of fun in here. If you like James Bond, you should get this, because it's cheap and you'll enjoy it every now and then. Or, better yet, if you want an EA Bond, get the first shooter they made, The World is Not Enough on N64. Nightfire just felt like a poorly designed version of that game(which wasn't the best itself) except with much better graphics(the graphics in Nightfire are the only thing I have no complaint about.)

The Best is Bond ( Like I had to tell you! )

Nightfire is the best Bond game to be released since Goldeneye!

The plot lacks some 'Pa-ZAZ' I enjoyed the plot and story line of Agent Under Fire, but Nightfire has a much improved multiplayer mode.

Bond will keep you playing and playing, over and over again!
