Fun for the rugby fan...

This game was a lot of fun for me, a rugby fan, but does not live up to the EA games I have grown to love. There are some flaws in the game such as the special moves system being to complicated. It also lacks the depth of most other EA games.

It was lots of fun for a while but wore out quick and is not a very high quality game overall.

Better than anything else out there but still....

OK so this is a major step up from the last Rugby game that was available.
Pros - All the teams are here
The game looks right and the scrums/rucks and mauls operate reasonably well.
Lots of depth to tournaments etc
Cons - Poor "real" play at times. If you are used to quick rucking you can scare off the backs by passing the ball back too fast and they will run away from the ball.(like in real life ;)) Also the scrum half can pass the ball directly 40-50 yards into the endzone if the backs arent "looking". If you run sideways enough you can avoid getting tackled. In a real game thats not going to happen. Also kicking on the fly is pretty temperamental.
Also what is the bias for England and NZ being the strongest teams by 7-8 points better than everybody else. Last World Cup England only won by a drop goal at the end of OT. Since then they have lost more games than they won. There needs to be more parity among the top teams.
But all in all its not a bad game and needs improvement but for a evening in with the lads and a few beers it will definitely pass the time.

From Someone Who Knew Nothing of Rugby

I have to admit, right off the bat, that I knew very little to nothing about rugby before buying this game. That's half the reason I bought it, really. I can't stand not knowing how to play a sport.

So I bought the game, knowing nothing about the sport, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The introduction to the game is fairly good. Being as I'm entirely a beginner, I made use of the Rugby 101, and within a few hours I understood the game. I'm sure I don't have everything down yet, but it's quite easy for a newcomer to the sport to play and enjoy this game.

The engine runs well, and the graphics are superb. Another great sports game from EA Sports.

great game with no online

i bought the game assuming it had online, without looking for the little stripe that says XBOX live enabled, i only play the single player in sports games anymore to get a feel for new controls and learning to use new moves, so im not as bad as i am in MVP for example. If you buy games for online play, then this would be the game to get, if it was online enabled d: /

If you want a realistic, fun game where you can learn the basics of rugby, this is the game for you. Very good graphics and detail; an opportunity to play with the best international and national teams; good game play; plentiful opportunities to practice/scrimmage and bone up on your game play; bugs?? I don't know nothing bout no bugs-didn't see any (read the game book and practice, practice, practice; create a player with some interesting twists; need I say more? Try it, get your cleats on, get out on the pitch. It's a good thing.

Fun Rugby Game!

I must say that I disagree with the previous poor review of this game. I have had it for a few weeks, and think it's great FUN! You can play the usual Super 12 and World League games...build your squad from scratch...edit players. The commentary is nice. The in-game music is quite nice with a decent variety of songs. The level of realism is good and the AI provides a good challenge.

Overall, this is a fun game that should satify any rugby junkies quick fix.

Watch me mates go for a try!!!!!!!

This is a fun game!!---- I was familiar with rugby to a degree before I purchased the game, but I learned some new rules to the game. The side out is very important in the game and the computer AI seems kick it every time when they start on offence, thus slowing down the general flow of the game. I know that this would be the proper gameplan but the computer opponent does it every time!! Another gripe I have is the extreme speed the players move at. This might make the gameplay exciting, but it takes practice to pass to ball and to kick. The kicking of the drop kick is especially tough, because I like to play the game with the sideline view mode on--like a tv broadcast-- You thus, have no way to aim the ball for the drop-kick.

This game is unique because it is something different from the familiar baseball, foootball-basketball video game routine we get here in the states. If you want to have any chance to win a game--- pick England or New Zealand as your team, otherwise you will get beat bad. These teams have the best rankings.

I tried the created player mode and this was fun. You can give him speed and He would sprint like jesse owens down the field and make the try. The New Zealand and Scottish broadcasters with their accents were fun to hear. The scrum feature in the game is fun, but it seems to to vary from time to time in its difficulty.

One annoying feature of the game is that every time you want to play a new game after turning the game on--you have to go through the tutorial of the game--all over again-- how to pass how to kick, etc.

P.S!!!! -pick the New Zealand All-Blacks as your team and watch the Maori war chant the team will perform before the match. This is worth the price of the game!!!

Aside from these few gripes this is a unique, fun game--Highly recommended!!!

I must tell ya'll ninjas this is one of the best games ever of a rugby game i loved how u pitch it to the sideline and run ball down someones throat and how they dive i had 2004 on pc and thats was pretty fun but graphics sucked but fun once you get a hang of pitching the ball but back to 2005 it is awesome i like to hit the kicker right when they go to kick it and i pick it up and run

At first this game seems amazing and really fun. But after a while you find that there is certain ways in which you can aut apart the computer's back line. This makes it far to easy to win against the computer, eg. I beat New Zealand with Spain on hard. But once you start to play multiplayer then you start to realise how good this game is.
One thing that EA could improve on is penalties. It would be really good if you could do penalties moves and even create your own.

So overall, a very fun game to play against a human on multiplayer, but is really easy against the computer.
