If your machine can handle it, get the PC version.

There's not much that can really be said in reviewing a game like this. If you've played the previous Serious Sam games, you know what to expect and you won't really be dissapointed.

If you've not played them, however, just try to imagine a game like Smash TV or Total Carnage in third person. You travel through gorgeous environments and battle wave after wave after wave of enemies that keep rushing at you, eager to blow themselves up or tackle you.

One thing, though, and the title of this review should have tipped you off, but you're better off going with the PC version. The Xbox graphics are fine, but they could be so much better.

The most troubling and inexplicable difference between the two versions, however, is that the final boss of the game is totally absent in the Xbox version. This seems like a terribly bizarre decision and there's no real reason for it. If that's important to you, go with the PC version. Serious Sam is, after all, notable for its boss battles. To remove one (and the final one, at that) is simply baffling and ultimately dissapointing.

Instant gratification

I discovered the xbox in mid-2005 and bought about 30 games to feed my instant addiction, many of them "first person shooters." This is absolutely the most fun of them all. The graphics and story aren't quite Halo 2, but this is my number-one, boot it up, destroy-everything-for-5-minutes-and-go-to-work-satisfied game.

Really Serious?...Not!

Serious Sam II, is a first person shooter (FPS) where you you are attacked by waves of alien creatures. The character you play named, Sam is a gung-ho character, dressed in jeans and t-shirt, he's a smart aleck and will spout funny one-liners during the game as he frags aliens with the variety of weapons. To progress to the next areas of the map you need to destroy all hostile aliens, some maps are closed off by some sort of gate and need to be unlocked; this is usually done by finding a switch or key somewhere or requires a minor puzzle to be solved. The gameplay is similar to the DOOM series in that aspect, but Serious Sam is more comical in nature. Serious Sam II just like its predecessor is serious about the shooting aspect; it has a very arcade-like feel and it is nothing like other FPS which are more like a simulator. Fans of the Rainbow Six series might not enjoy the aradey feel of this game because there is nothing cerebral about it. Most of the levels take place in lush tropical environments, lots of fauna and colorful palattes are used which look just a beautiful as the island levels from the game, FarCry. The alien creatures are unique in design and most of them are really mean demon/hybrid looking. The sound effects are just awesome and really take advantage of your speakers surround sound and subwoofers. Right from the start of the game you are equipped with a electric saw, dual revolver guns and one energy weapon. Of course you'll aquire even better weapons as you progress through the game, they all kick "serious" [...]! If you like FPS that are very arcadey I highly recommend this game, I also recommend DOOM and Red Faction II.

Pros:
+excellent action
+excellent weapons
+excellent sound effects
+excellent graphics
+excellent level designs
+excellent controls
+excellent enemies
+bloody shoot-outs
+smooth framerate
+Sam is a funny characters
+very arcadey

"SERIOUS SAM 2 - XBOX"
Well, first let me say that I am a FPS(first person shooter) nut. However, I consider myself to be very picky. I don't like slow-down and I like good/realistic graphics. After playing a demo of Serious Sam(1) a couple of years ago I didn't give Serious Sam a second thought after about 5 minutes of play. Well, I played the demo for Serious Sam II and was pleasantly suprised(I'm so glad there was a demo, I'd have never tried it if there wasn't). So I bought this at my leasure and after playing it for about 20 minutes or so I realized I was hooked.

This game has the most action I've ever seen in a video game. It's not realistic at all, but that's one of it's charms. It's nothing short of a run-and-gun good time of a video game. To me it feels like what a video game should be like. Fast, fun and tons of action. Literally, it is almost non-stop action. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it's not overly dramatic with lots of corny one-liners and deliberate cliche characters and levels. This game is exactly what a video game should be like. Don't get me wrong, I still love the truly serious FPS, but this is a refreshing break from all the drama and it's a lot of fun too.

FUN, FUN, FUN is the best way to describe Serious Sam II. Nice graphics and tons of action. I'll play this over and over again because it's so addictive and it's a refreshing alternative to the truly serious FPS video games.

Can't Go Wrong With This Title

Other reviewers have noted that this game is fast-paced with a lot of over-the-top action, so I won't reiterate what's already been documented. What this game has is irreverence and fun in literal truckloads. Yes, it's a button-mashing fire-fest. But the game has heart and I really enjoyed the character of "Serious Sam." His one-liners are simply hilarious and I can't imagine anyone not wanting to share an adventure with this muscle-bound wisecracker.
I'm hoping (fervently) for a "Serious Sam 3" for the 360; and you know what? I don't think even Uwe Boll could mess up a "Serious Sam" movie! He'd be a great character!

Was ok.

I love the Serious Sam Franchise. I own all the games and have played it sine it first came out. This one I didn't care for too much. It moved a away from the original games, just alittle bit. The enviroments you run around in aren't as big as they used to be and you don't have as much room to run around in. I'm not saying they aren't big just not as big.All of the Sam games are extremely linear (That means, you don't have many options to choose from as per which way you go). But because the enviroments were so large it wasn't as noticeable. I loved all the new enemies and references to some old enemies that didn't make it into this one (The Gnarrs. I love them). There aren't as many enemies per level though. The other games would have, let's say, 1000 per level. While this one has 650 (These are just example numbers). And since there are fewer enemies to kill they made them more difficult to kill. I loved how in the old games you could take in hundreds of enemies at once. I really liked the graphics update for this. The game is supposed to be cartoony looking it fits witht the style of the other games, so don't bother comparing it to HL2, Bioshock, Condemed: Criminal Origins, or F.E.A.R. Overall the game wasn't to terribly bad. The humor did kind of suck and it did kind of jump away from the Sam protecting Earth alittle bit. All in all the game was ok and it did present some cool new things to the Serious Sam univers. But I can only give it 3 out 5 stars.
