Don't touch it unless you have the right graphics card

It's not just me. Read all the other reviewers who are warning about this. The list of perfectly mainstream graphics cards that this game won't work with is on the Zoo Tycoon support page. ([...]) It is LONG. We have the bog standard: an ordinary Dell with a standard ATI card. Thank you Microsoft for the look of dismay on my son's face as yet another Microsoft game refuses to work... not! I do not think this game is fit for the purpose for which it was sold.

Beware

I was so looking forward to this game being released only to find it is compatible to very few OS. You must have 256 RAM FREE-not just a 256 card. Worse yet it will not play on many graphics cards due to directx9 incompatibility, and we are talking new updated graphics cards too! Go to the zoo tycoon site and read the incompatibility issues before purchasing and save yourself headaches and despair.

Doesn't Work with Most Video Cards

My kids were looking forward to playing this game on their two- week old hp pavillion computer. Unfortunately Zoo Tycoon 2 is incompatible with their new 3D video card along with a bunch of other video cards. You have to read the Zoo Tycoon 2 website to figure out which few cards are supported. The fact that their computer has DirectX9 didn't help their video card to work. What a disapointment!

Not compatible with Video Cards

This game is not compatible with so many video cards it is ridiculous. If I were you I would check this list (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889368) before buying the game. The list wasn't in the paperwork in the game, on the box, or here on amazon. It was a total waste of money and now I am going to have to lose money returning it! What a waste of time and money! My daughter was also very dissapointed when she couldn't play it on our brand new computer! Very dissapointed with this game.

Systems Requirements

Beware of the systems requirement. They are not entirely accurate. After much time spent with Microsoft Customer Service, I was very disappointed to hear that my three-year-old Toshiba laptop would have to be updated with some kind of video card in order to play this game. We haven't had a problem with any other computer games (Sims2 plays fine, for example)....

Junk

Kind of hard to review a game that doesn't seem to work on any computer (I'm on my 3rd). Nice job Microsoft. Merry Christmas.

Cartoons are for toddlers

Zoo Tycoon 2 is an extreme disappointment. It should be called Zoo Tycoon 1/2. It is a kindergartener's version of the game, with icons replacing words (for those who cannot read), animals that look like cartoons and a "biome paintbrush" that reminds one of the huge, balance-on-your-shoulder pencils that we started making our first letters with. I keep waiting for Bugs Bunny to show up. There is no challenge, no realism in the environment and a truly awkward interface that makes creating a zoo a battle of man-versus-machine. Blue Fang would have been better served to work harder on the original Zoo Tycoon. Most players simply wanted a zoom feature and some control over the behavior of the characters.
I consider purchasing ZT2 a waste of money. It is not even fixable. Blue Fang went from high school to kindergarten with this game. They would have been better served to go the other way...

Didn't work

I spent 1 and 1/2 hours Christmas day with Microsoft Tech suppport because the program would not work. They could not solve the problem. The technician said that they would call me back at 9:00 AM the following day after he had an opportunity to check with the supervising technicians. Of course, the call never came. What a wonderful way to spend Christmas. I am returning the program to Amazon and am also returning the endangered species and Marine add ons.

Microsoft Doesn't Care If It Doesn't Support Your Video Card

I bought Zoo Tycoon 2 today with the hope that we'd enjoy it as much as Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection. So far, it isn't proving to be terribly enjoyable. I have installed it on my 2.5 year old Dell laptop, which far exceeds the system requirements listed on the box. Unfortunately, what they don't tell you is that there are a bunch of video cards that Microsoft is choosing not to support with Zoo Tycoon 2. Mine is one of them, so my new game is useless. What a waste of time, money, and energy. I'm frustrated and disgusted. This is not a whimpy little computer, and it runs Sims 2 without skips, jumps, or hesitations. I honestly don't understand why it wouldn't be able to handle Zoo Tycoon 2.

Don't bother calling Microsoft either. They aren't interested in providing much assistance. The phone message refers you back to the unhelpful website that suggests that you go out and upgrade your hardware (which I might understand if this was WAY outdated, but as a computer science major when the system was purchased, I did not go bargain-basement, so even 2 years old, many of these components are still readily available)

Don't waste your money unless you have a kickin' Alienware system sitting on your desk. Apparently the little monkeys and lions are just too much for the average computer to handle.
