Review the GAME, NOT release dates / frustration!

C'mon people- this is a very fun game. Don't give it bad reviews because you're upset it wasn't for sale when you wanted. I just picked up this game tonight and it's as fun as the original SNES version! It looks exactly the same, and I don't see any differences. It plays very well on the GBA and I'm having a blast re-living it! I always loved playing Aladdin, the backgrounds are fun, the controls are easy, and it's enjoyable!

It's actually $24.99 at Toys R Us, so don't pay more than that.

You'll have many fun hours with this game....enjoy!

WHERE IS THE STUPID GAME ALL-READY?

I loved this game on SNES, so when I found out it was becoming available for GBA, I jumped at the chance to pre-order it. I pre-ordered it late October 2003, with a release date in early December 2003.
As the date came for it to ship, the release date moved to January 2004. OK, a month delay, I can live with that. Again, the date drew near, and then moved to around Valentine's Day. A few days ago it was March. Today it is September 2004!
I have contacted CapCom, and voiced my displeasure with them. I will be shocked if I get a reply. Anyway, if I decide to stick it out, I will have had $36 tied up for a year, for a video game! I could have done other things with that money. What is the "incentive" to stick it out and let Amazon and CapCom keep my money?
I understand production and shipping delays, but there is no excuse for this. If the product was not even close to being ready, they should have not announced a date in the first place.

Worth the wait!

a dream come true for all die hard aladdin fans as well as all platformer fans. i hear this will be a juiced up version of the snes version. i am disappointed that it is taking so long for the release, but i would rather have the company get the game right as opposed to rushing out a mediocre product. i hope there will be more aladdin games, especially one for the PS2. enjoy!

Wow! What a wonderful journey you take on this game. If you liked the movie, you will ove the game. It is full of tricks secrets and wonders. Everytime you play it, you discover something new, therfore, it doesn't get old after you beat it. The best satge is when you discover Carpet and you go on a wild ride in the collapsing Cave of Wonders. i would recommend this game for anyone who likes adventure. It takes some skill but it can be played by everyone, young, old, boy or girl. This is a great buy, full of enchantment... :)

There Are Some Games that don't Age Well

Aladdin on the Super Nintendo was quite the game to have. A surprise success in gaming. It didn't look or play anything like the Sega Genesis version, but as far as being a platformer was concerned, Aladdin did good. It was simple gameplay, it was fun, and it had balanced difficulty.

Unfortunately, when the game was released for the Super Nintendo in 1993, it was grand. A decade later on the GBA and I can't say the game aged well. Let's be honest, Aladdin back on the SNES wasn't any different than your standard platformer. When games like Super Mario World had completely blown people away with its gameplay, Aladdin was still doing the level by level design that had already been being done for some time. The game was still fun to play, though, despite that even in 1993 it was behind in technology.

The GBA version is also like that. The difference is, this is your standard platformer in the new millenium. In 1993 it could hold up. But now it has to compete with the likes of not only some of the Mario games that outdid it back then (if you put into account all the GBA re-releases), but it also has to compete with a whole new slew of platformers such as Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Metroid Fusion and the like. Does Aladdin stack up the same way it did years ago? The answer is no.

The gameplay is unchanged. You go from one end of the level to another. Most of the time you'll find guards in your path and you'll have to deal with them. Other enemies include birds covered in vases, and later on in the game, Iago. There's not a lot of variety to the enemies at all. Aladdin has two ways of dealing with his enemies. He can throw apples at them, which only manage to stun the guards, or he can jump on them, which works far better than the apples.

In the corner you've got a health meter that are hearts. Each hit you take causes you to lose a heart. At the beginning you'll only start with three. No enemy taks away more than one heart when you get hit. Through the game you'll come across certain heart items that will give you an extra heart. There are other ways to get extra hearts. Collecting 100 diamonds gives you a heart, and there's a bonus game you can play that can also give you an extra heart. By the time you get to the end of the game, you'll have ten hearts, and this makes the game ridiculously easy, seeing as how even spikes or fire cause you only to lose one heart. There's only one moment in the game where you even face instant death.

Aside from running and jumping on enemies there are two levels where you'll fly the carpet. Once in the cave of wonders, and the other is just a bonus level full of diamonds to collect. The cave of wonders level is perhaps the only challenging aspect of the game.

Throughout your journey you'll also come across red diamonds. They're just like tbe blue ones only there are ten in each world. After you complete a world (most of them have three levels), it'll show you how many of these special red diamonds you've collected. The only plus to collecting these diamonds is that you get a special ending, and you don't even have to collect all 70 that are scattered through the game. Actually you only have to collect like fifty.

For a port, this game certainly does lack extras. There are a few extra levels thrown in, one for each world. These new levels are not very satisfying, nor are they any challenge. They're also really short, so they don't improve the length of the game. The game will take you less than two hours to complete. The only neat extra is that the game does away with the password system and lets you save your game.

Musically, the game has large shortcommings. The Super Nintendo version, for what it's worth, had good music. A lot of the music here sounds tinny and just doesn't project well from the GBA's speakers. It's reminiscent of the SNES version, but like a lot of Super Nintendo games brought to the GBA, it doesn't sound the same. Aladdin's soundtrack suffers horribly in the translation from the Super Nintendo to to the GBA.

Aladdin isn't a bad game, it just hasn't aged very well. It was already generic when it was released on the Super Nintendo over ten years ago. The difference was, a lot of games were also like that, so Aladdin was able to survive with it's good graphics and simple gameplay. In this day and age it can't possibly live up to the competition surrounding it. Aladdin isn't bad, but it suffers from being a bit too old school, even for the old school gamer. It's way too short and far too basic to be what it once was on the Super Nintendo.

The Good
+For the most part, it looks good
+It's a port of yet another classic game on the SNES
+It maintains having its simple gameplay
+Saving your game is much better than the password system

The Bad
-There are hardly any extras worth talking about
-New levels are hardly a challenge
-The soundtrack is horrible
-The game is ridiculously easy
-This really is an example of a game that hasn't aged well. It could hold its own on the SNES, despite being pretty generic and basic. On the GBA, though, there are far better platformers out there that it has to try to hold it's own against

Another Classic takes a beating!

I recently imported this game and WAS planning on buying the English version, if and when it comes out. A word of WARNING: The Japanese and EURO versions have taken out the music 'A whole NEW WORLD' and 'A FRIEND LIKE ME' and Replaced it with new tunes. This may, or may not be the reason it's taking so long to come out. THere are some new stages that are short, but fun. Still once again the video game makers of today have somewhat ruined a classic from the SNES days. It's still better then the horrible Sega version though.

This is horrible

I've been wanting to experience this Aladdin game again, since I've enjoyed playing and beating it on the SNES like lots of times!

So I was overjoyed when I ordered it here on Amazon, and a week later it arrived!

Now I can relive the memories and play this game again, but on the comfort of my Nintendo DS; since I love playing GBA games on it as well!

The movie Aladdin is one of my all time favorite Disney classic's, and it always holds a special place in my heart... as well as this game!

Anybody who loves their Disney movies and games as much as I do; should get this game and take a stroll down memory lane!
