Are we forgetting the point of playing computer games?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

People who critisize this game are too stuck on the idea that a game must inculde certain modern standards to be worth playing. Please! Playing computer games is all about escaping reality and being able to enjoy yourself. Who cares if it's not in first person perspective? It's still fun, isn't it? I sure think so.

Old school!

What's with all the babies wining that this game is not like the original? It's not 1st person, waaaaaa. It's not 3d, waaaaaa. Well, the original Duke Nuken--and the 2nd for that matter--WERE 2d side-scrollers, and a lot of fun! This game is no less fun. It's great! Just because we are in a world now with machines fast enough for 3d doesn't mean a 2d game can't be fun. Geesh, these children probably think the first Castle Wolfenstein was 3d!

Seems they've fooled a few folks, but not me. They slap the name Duke Nukem on an old Mario Bros engine and expect it to hold it's own in the wake of games like SOF2, MoHAA, RTCW and GTA3!
Installed & tried the game, deleted from my HD, resealed the box and promptly returned it for a full cash refund- What a waste of time and effort- Weak pizza!

I mean, come on guys! Duke will always be good. The fist Duke was a side scroller itself. I believe this game is great. PERIOD.

PS: I don't care if graphics sucks or something, gameplay matters, not technology

I hope someday they release DNF :(

Not the same Duke we all loved

What happened to this game? This game is in 3rd person!! What is up with that? Poor Duke, I hate to see you go this way 'ol buddy. This would have been a great follow-up to the original, but not after playing Duke in 1st person for so long. Good-bye old freind. We all hope to see the real Duke again someday. This was a disapointment. Don't get me wrong, for what it is, the graphics are good. If you had never played the other it might be OK.

NOT A SEQUEL

Some of the reviewers of this title seem a bit confused as to its nature. This is NOT the sequel to Duke Nukem 3D. The true sequel will be titled "Duke Nukem Forever" and will be released someday by 3D Realms. "Manhattan Project" was developed by a 3rd party studio just for kicks while we wait for the true sequel. Think of it as a spin-off. They wanted to make a title that was a bit nostalgic for older styles of gameplay, and at the same time update that style with newer technology. And for what it is, they did a wonderful job. Now stop bitching and keep waiting for the sequel.

Duke Is Back

Although not the first-person game fans have been waiting for, all other aspects of the game are true to Duke, the primary factor of course is Duke's voice acting and dialogue. It's 2D nature shows its age and quite annoying at times but the graphics are as good as it can be. If this is the last Duke game, at least it was a great effort.

Awesome!

This game is awesome, it is NOT like the Duke Nukem 3d of 1996 we all remember, the third person shooter, but more like the 1991 version updated with great graphics. I do think it is worth getting if you are a Duke Nukem fan. I found it to be thrilling, can't wait for another FPS from these guys starting Duke.

Dont' Buy this Game if you liked Duke Nukem 3D

If you liked Duke Nukem 3D, you may hate Manhattan Project. I've just wasted [amt] on this game. Problem is that you CANNOT move forward or back! You can ONLY move left or right. I thought there was a problem with my joystick/keyboard/config/etc but No that appears to be the way this game was made. I ran Duke 3D and it worked perfectly. I was really looking forward to this game and am a little upset at the [dummy] who decided to make it a "side scroller" as it just does not make sense. This is exactly why people "borrow" software and I wish I would have done that as I could have saved some money.

No where near the fun of Duke Nukem 3D

Regretably this not the same type first person shooter as Duke Nukem 3D, this is a sorry Acrade style spin off that I've since gotten rid of and I warn people away from purchasing.
