Pretty good game, bit dated now

I played this game when it first came out, and recently bought it for < 10 bucks at a second-hand game shop. The game play over all is very good, although some of the shared buttons are not a good idea. The graphics now look pretty bland, but since it came out in 2003 that is only to be expected. I keep waiting for Kill.Switch II to come out, but it never has. Shame really. This game has some very good ideas in it, and the physics of recoil and the general environment were very clever.

This underrated game has been cited as an inspiration for hit games like "Gears of War" and "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune". I played this game when it was released back in 2003. I remember being impressed with the cover-oriented combat system. At the time I thought it was the best implementation of using cover in gun fights. I felt that maybe "Winback" and the "Metal Gear" games were its spiritual predecessors, but looking back I think this game really took it to another level and the "hiding behind cover" craze that has swept "shooter" games since the popularity of Gears really has its roots in kill.switch. This game is inexpensive now and I would encourage any Gears fan to give it a look. It is compatible with the 360.

FLIP THE F***ING KILL SWITCH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kill.Switch....This game is simply amazing. The graphics aren't too shabby, especially for 2003. It's the attention to detail in the graphics that is astonishing. For example: I shot from my cover and killed a man that was about 10 feet away. When he fell his gun fell out of his hand and bounced a bit and it leaned against the wall after it bounced and wiggle....THAT'S WHAT IT WOULD DO IN REAL LIFE!!!! The blind firing techniques are a definate perfecting to put into a game. I'm suprised no other game developers have gotten smart and used it. Too damn bad for them. Anyway, the gameplay is solid. Nonstop action. Shooting every which way just to stay alive. This may make you think that the game is unrealistic....yeah, IT'S NOT!!!! Take a couple well placed hits from any enemy and you're dead, especially the mounted turrets. They created the game in such a realistic way that you MUST use your cover in order to survive. here's no option. You either use it or you die. Which takes us to the OCS (offensive cover system). This enables u to get against basically any surface and use it as cover. When there, you can lean out and shoot accurately at your attackers OR you can use the newly created feature that works with the OCS: Blind fire. This is when you stick your gun out the side of your cover and fire it without looking. It keeps you from getting hit, but it is also about as accurate as something very inaccurate. But it helps many time throughout the game....MANY TIMES!!!! about 9 guns and 4 types of grenades. This game rocks mt f***ing socks. get it. It's cheap and well worth the small amount u pay for it.

To play or not to play?(not to play)

One word, SUCKS but I will take the time to explain (in what little detail there is)how stupid this game really is.OK first of all bad controls ,your pressing 1 button to use wall cover and another to fire while hittng up,all at the same time!!!Next low variety of weapons 3 or 4 at the most (splinter cell is an exception!)Last but not least ,graphics easily the high point of this idiotic peice of trash, and they still look terrible!!!
Look take it from me stay away from this.......thing as much as possible, even if their giving it away for free!!!trust me.

This is by far the worst game I have subjected myself to. There is no main plot to the game. I want the time I spent playing this game back. The game was just terrible

Kill.Switch is the best game in the world!!! I like this game because it has alot fighting and shooting. It is also cool because the graphics rock. There are awsome wepons too. It has great places to fight. If I could rate this game from 1 to 10 it toatly is a 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

This feels like a 1990's game....

There is nothing too special about this game. You can't jump or climb onto anything. Your movement is restricted is some cases. It's kinda cool how you can do the blind fire behind cover, but it does not do much good during combat, it just looks cool. The graphics are NOT updated and are jaggy and the movements are very robot like when running or jump-rolling. It feels like the game was rushed some how in production. The voice overs are not that good, and it does sound like the same voice doing two within the game...what's up with that? I would rent this game before buying it...or at least buy it CHEAP.

Call it a 3.5 rounded up

This is a very nice shooter with some interesting options, like blindfire. Although blindfire doesn't work that well it is fun to do once in awhile. The graphics are alright as is the sound...good quality, but not great. The levels are varied, but overall the game seemed a little short. Be prepared, it is one of those games that you can only save at the end of each stage....very frustrating sometimes to keep restarting. Don't go in guns blazing, use cover! They could have used a much better storyline and character history then they had...basically none! The controls are easy enough to learn to use so have fun right away, plus the game starts with a turorial. All in all a solid game, but keep playing Splinter Cell for awhile longer and let it get a little cheaper.

WINBACK on steroids

Does anyone remember the game Winback? I believe it was originally for the N64, and later was released on PS2. That is the grandpappy of Kill.Switch. Duck behind something then pop up and shoot when the enemy is not. Firstly I'll start by saying the gameplay is truly enjoyable. The only problem I found was the AI. I'm not lying when I say this, I beat this game in 1 day with the difficulty on Realistic. I read that the AI was so great that they would formulate attacks as a team, etcetera. They didn't. Maybe mine had a bug. Not to mention, when you get the SAW machine gun, you're basically unstoppable. The greatest thing about this game is that hopefully it will set the standard for future 3rd person shooters to employ taking cover, blind fire, etc. The story is not great, at all. I'm not exactly sure, but I think the main character is a machine or a virtual reality simulation or something. The FMV sequences are outstanding. Overall, it could have been harder, the story could have been better, and it needed to be longer. I forgot that. Don't be cheated by the 15 senarios. In most games a senario is the same as a campaign that has about three levels per senario. This game has 15 levels. This is the ultimate renting game, buy it if you want when it's $20.

Ok, But Not Great

Kill.Switch redefines what the action/shooter genre is by adding new elements to the norm. It boasts unique miltary techniques, 15 levels of action, and a deep story. Does Kill.Switch deliver all of these? Keep reading to find out.

Kill.Switch does indeed redefine the action/shooter genre, but that's only because of the blindfire element they threw into this game. Other than hiding behind objects and shooting, there isn't much innovation. Plus dong blindfire over and over again get's old quickly because that's basically all you really have to do in the game.

The control of the game is perfect on XBox, it doesn't take long at all to master it. So you will be blowing up and shooting stuff in no time at all. It is interesting on how the blindfire works, you basically just go to a wall and press the shoot button while holding down the duck button. By doing blindfire you are protected by enemy fire, which means you take less, if any, damage.

I won't give any of the story away, but that's only because I didn't understand the story. Although I didn't understand it, it did keep me wanting to play the game in hopes that I could understand it by unlocking more of the story.

The voice acting, music, and sound effects are good. I can't really complain about any of those aspects. But I dislike how in the cutscenes how non of the peoples lips move when they are speaking. The sound effects of the guns, bombs, and footsteps alll sounds realistic. The music is driving and it keeps you wanting to play through the games various levels.

The in-gsme graphics are good but they could have been better, because they look a little out of date. But the CG's are great looking. The movement of the characters is smooth and fluent, unlike some of the reminicent shooters like WinBack.

Even though this game has some flaws that doesn't mean it's not worth a buy. Especially for the XBox owners because this one of the top action/shooters on it. This game isn't reccomended for the weak or new gamers because this game has a high difficulty level. All in all this is a good game and it deserves a buy if not it makes a great rental.

Hit
+ Blindfire is a nice touch
+ Good gameplay
+ Good CG's
+ Great sound, music, voice acting

Miss
_ Gameplay can get tiresome
_ Steep difficulty level for soft games
_ AI is pretty weak
