Fast paced, hard fighting Third Person Shooter!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 5 / 7

Think up a cross between Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher and the aggressive firefights of Conflict: Desert Storm and what you would get is Kill.Switch! I'll be perfectly honest, this is not a game that I would be quick to drop fifty bucks on, but is an excellent rental or one to scoop up at the thirty-five or lower price range. Those who appreciate a good shooter will love this one! Gameplay is very realistic and difficult, sound and graphics are great! This is how video game combat should be, grenade a room with a frag or flash bang then come in spraying! I have found the enemy A.I. to be very challenging, attacks are very coordinated using covering fire and flanking movements. Another big plus this games got going for it is the re-use of enemy rifles (I hate it when you can't pick up the guy's gear that you just shot). Character movement is the only real problem I have with this game. The character looks great and can combat roll but looks sluggish when running, but when this is the only problem you've got an awesome shooter! You'll love it when you're running for you life from the first attack helicopter you encounter! I have never been required to use the environment so much to stay alive, it's an awesome game element and I'm shocked that no one has done this before; thumbs up to you Namco!

Finally a Really Fun game has made its way to xbox. Here are a few pros and cons...

Pro's
~Fun game that will have you in action from start to finish.
~Great how you can hide behind a wall and heve the option to blind fire.
~Good graphics and cool how the glass breaks.
~Wide selection of weapons, as well as you can pick up enemy weapons.

Con's
~I do not like how he run's, his feet move to fast.
~You can't hold medi-kits, if you are in need of health you need to find a midi-kit.

That's about it, I'm sure I could find alot more good things about it but I just got it and I'm going to play it now... But as you can see there are more pro's than con's... so got check this game out!

FLIP THE F***ING KILL SWITCH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kill.Switch....This game is simply amazing. The graphics aren't too shabby, especially for 2003. It's the attention to detail in the graphics that is astonishing. For example: I shot from my cover and killed a man that was about 10 feet away. When he fell his gun fell out of his hand and bounced a bit and it leaned against the wall after it bounced and wiggle....THAT'S WHAT IT WOULD DO IN REAL LIFE!!!! The blind firing techniques are a definate perfecting to put into a game. I'm suprised no other game developers have gotten smart and used it. Too damn bad for them. Anyway, the gameplay is solid. Nonstop action. Shooting every which way just to stay alive. This may make you think that the game is unrealistic....yeah, IT'S NOT!!!! Take a couple well placed hits from any enemy and you're dead, especially the mounted turrets. They created the game in such a realistic way that you MUST use your cover in order to survive. here's no option. You either use it or you die. Which takes us to the OCS (offensive cover system). This enables u to get against basically any surface and use it as cover. When there, you can lean out and shoot accurately at your attackers OR you can use the newly created feature that works with the OCS: Blind fire. This is when you stick your gun out the side of your cover and fire it without looking. It keeps you from getting hit, but it is also about as accurate as something very inaccurate. But it helps many time throughout the game....MANY TIMES!!!! about 9 guns and 4 types of grenades. This game rocks mt f***ing socks. get it. It's cheap and well worth the small amount u pay for it.

Lots of fun, been playing it non-stop

Rented this game over the Thanksgiving holiday and have been playing it non-stop for several days. In a word; GREAT! Love it. If you like First Person Shooters (FPS) then you will like this game. The ability to crouch down behind boxes and walls while you lean out into a corridor will leave you wondering why it took so long for somebody to think of this feature. No more standing out in the corridor getting shot, no sirreeee. Just stand up against the corner, hold the left trigger, lean out and around the corner and engage enemy. This feature does not make you invincible, but does cut down your profile, and hence risk of getting shot. I hope other games in the future will make use of this feature. Sometimes aiming in crouch mode is difficult as noted in other reviews.

There are medi-pacs available to restore health, but there are well spaced out and you will soon learn to `hoard' them if you-don't-absolutely-need-one-now. Same thing goes with ammo. If you are heavy on the trigger finger then you will soon find yourself running low on bullets, and this will entail you running around the way you came looking for more dropped ammo.

The controls are pretty easy to use and are very Halo-like in layout.

A thinking mans shooter...

This game is little hyped but a great additon to anyones Xbox collection.

If you like "run and gun" games like Quake or Serious Sam you WONT like Kill Switch. You need to use tactics to survive this game.

If you are looking for something a little more cerebral than the above mentioned titles but don't like sneaking around *yawn* such as in games like Splinter Cell/Metal Gear/etc. but prefer a good fire fight you will love this game!

Another added bonus is there is no long, boring, lame story line to bog down your fun.

With SO many poor FPS games out there this holiday season, Kill Switch will delight anyone who likes shooters but prefers not to switch off his brain when he turns on his xbox...

The REAL Fast and the Furious

Kill.Switch is not a bad game at all. It reminds me of the Bruce Willis platform game Apocalypse. In fact it is probably one of the best 3D Platform shoot `em ups you can get your hands on. You play Bishop, a sort of Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake x Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher with more firepower than both combined. In fact that is what kill.switch is - one big free-for-all GUNFIGHT.

The story is actually confusing and told in flashback style (some flashback shots are cinematically realistic). Bishop is an ultra-tech Soldier and who is married to Lynn Takamura - a Neural Interface designer for some weapons tech firm. Bishop was supposed to execute a terrorist called Archer but failed. Archer came back to kill Lynn and to take control of Bishop's neural technology sending him about the globe committing terrorist acts of violence. Eventually Bishop finds a way out from Archer's control and goes to take Archer down himself.

Having said all of that, the gun fighting is first rate stuff simply because the enemy AI is the best seen in any game of its kind. The enemy is smart and moves accordingly. They will take you down by flanking you or sending a grenade in your direction. One or two hits are all it takes and you will go down. So you need to use the environment and this is where kill.switch scores in aces. As you hide behind something you can blind fire on the enemy with several different weapons to choose from or you can lean around the side, sight someone and shoot them. The detail in each level makes this one an essential purchase for the XBOX user. It pushes the PS2's graphics quite a bit (now and again the FPS stalls).

So kill.switch plays like you would expect it too - run around various levels (there are 5 major levels divided into two parts each) shooting the enemy and diving behind boxes as you blow things up. Sounds boring or unoriginal - yes, maybe - but kill.switch does it all so furiously. Once you start firing and throwing grenades and dancing about the obstacle pulling off headshots with some blind fire you will see how enjoyable all of this really can be and for that kill.switch is all golden 5 stars.

However it does have some negatives. The story is simply very hard to understand and makes no sense. The zooms are not very deep on the gun scopes meaning that you do not really get to zoom around and see the awesome sights that they have designed. It could have done with better zooms. It was absolutely terrible that they did not make more objects destructible. You couldn't even shoot up things like tables and chairs. I didn't see a single wall blow out in the game.

In the end I would not really purchase this unless you like blast em ups. If blast em ups are your thing then do not even think twice about this review. Stop now and go pick up kill.switch. It is insane live fire from start to finish. You will get a bang for your buck. However if you are looking for a game that might do something other than that (forget any type of Splinter Cell objectives or Metal Gear Solid coolness) then I suggest you go look elsewhere.

Pros:

- Furious action. Non-stop suppressing fire.
- Amazing enemy AI. The best of any game out there.
- Highly detailed graphics.
- Blind-fire. A very cool option.
- In terms of action this is what MGS and SC want-to-be but are not.
- Cuts scenes are realistic.

Cons:

- There appears to be no screen size adjustment.
- Short. Really only 6 to 8 hours of start to end game play.
- No environmental destruction.
- Extremely limited objectives.
- Story makes no sense.

Very Fun Game

This game does have a few flaws (like the zoom in views - although very realistic, and its hard to see sometimes) but overall its just plain fun!!! And isn't that why we buy these games? It's hard at first but the more you try the easier it gets - naturally. Namco (who makes Tekken, Soul Calibur, Time Crisis) should put out more games like they have in the past. And this one is another goodie! Buy this game if your looking for some fun shoot 'em up action.

WINBACK on steroids

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Does anyone remember the game Winback? I believe it was originally for the N64, and later was released on PS2. That is the grandpappy of Kill.Switch. Duck behind something then pop up and shoot when the enemy is not. Firstly I'll start by saying the gameplay is truly enjoyable. The only problem I found was the AI. I'm not lying when I say this, I beat this game in 1 day with the difficulty on Realistic. I read that the AI was so great that they would formulate attacks as a team, etcetera. They didn't. Maybe mine had a bug. Not to mention, when you get the SAW machine gun, you're basically unstoppable. The greatest thing about this game is that hopefully it will set the standard for future 3rd person shooters to employ taking cover, blind fire, etc. The story is not great, at all. I'm not exactly sure, but I think the main character is a machine or a virtual reality simulation or something. The FMV sequences are outstanding. Overall, it could have been harder, the story could have been better, and it needed to be longer. I forgot that. Don't be cheated by the 15 senarios. In most games a senario is the same as a campaign that has about three levels per senario. This game has 15 levels. This is the ultimate renting game, buy it if you want when it's $20.

Call it a 3.5 rounded up

This is a very nice shooter with some interesting options, like blindfire. Although blindfire doesn't work that well it is fun to do once in awhile. The graphics are alright as is the sound...good quality, but not great. The levels are varied, but overall the game seemed a little short. Be prepared, it is one of those games that you can only save at the end of each stage....very frustrating sometimes to keep restarting. Don't go in guns blazing, use cover! They could have used a much better storyline and character history then they had...basically none! The controls are easy enough to learn to use so have fun right away, plus the game starts with a turorial. All in all a solid game, but keep playing Splinter Cell for awhile longer and let it get a little cheaper.
