what can I say

i bought this game expecting to get a great party game like super smash bros. (N64 version rocks! im UNBEATABLE seriously)But this game is not like super smash bros. or your average casual fighting game. however i like the game and it is deep and fun true to what most people are probably saying. HOwever i have some complaints: #1 your friends will not be able to come over and just play because youll either beat them so bad theyll cry and get discouraged, or theyre too lazy to come over often enough to learn to master the game
#2 i was very surprised and bothered about how effective the button mashing is in this game. i mean if youre talented button mashers are no sweat, but it sucks to get whipped by some guy when youve been practicing for days.
#3 a bit of a catch 22- if youre too good your friends wont bother playing you, if you suck theyll laugh at you

ok on to the characters: i originally got really good with ivy(not professional like some freaks out there) but good enough to whip you. however i found that after playing with one character for a long time, its hard to break away and start from scratch with a new character, really hard. I recommend getting a head start with Ivy. Also, Raphael has the freakin cheapest move sets ever just push in the diraction youre going and tap B its basically guaranteed to get you smacked up for being cheap.

the levels: same things over and over again

do i recommend this game? for fighting game lovers- without a doubt. for more casual gamers- stay away from this one.

This game has it all: amazing graphics, great gameplay, and a wealth of unlockable features that add an immense amount of depth to a game that already had plenty to begin with.

The XBox version clearly has the greatest graphics, and it's unique character, Spawn, certainly measures up to the ones available on the other consoles. This version of the game edges out the GC version as the best, but I'm still partial to the GameCube version thanks to the inclusion of Link.

There's tons of playtime here, from playing the arcade mode, unlocking weapons in the Weapon Master mode, or playing versus with a friend, and you'll enjoy every last minute. The weapons unlocked in Weapon Master mode add to the game by modifying stats for your fighter, giving you more incentive to keep working at it. The downside to this being that while the first run through Weapon Master mode is fairly easy, when you complete it you open up second versions of the original levels which are much harder than they used to be.

Maybe I haven't mastered the game yet, but I think that the second run on Weapon Master is far too difficult. But that's a minor gripe compared to the high quality of the rest of this game. A definate must-buy for any fighting game fan, and worth your time even if you're not.

Best Fighting Game Ever!!!

Soul Calibur II is the best fighting game I have ever played. Soul Blade was actually my first introduction to fighting games and I loved it. It had an incredible storyline for a fighting game. Most fighters such as Virtua Fighter 4 have ablolutely no story behind the characters. I want to know what drives the characters to fight . Why does Sophitia leave her family to search for a cursed sword? In Soul Calibur II everything is improved upon. The only thing that dissapointed me was that there wasn't a seperate Weapon Master mode for each character as there was in Soul Blade. But, after playing it for a bit, I found that I preffered it this way. Some missions are just easier to complete with Nightmare than Killik. When I first heard this game was coming out I went to the arcade to play it. Even in the arcade it was a lot of fun. Now that each platform has its own special character, it makes the game even better.

Best Fighter on the Xbox to Date.

I played this game on all systems before i bought it and i chose the Xbox over the Ps2 and GameCube. Reason why. 1.I love playing as spawn and the controls are fantastic. 2. Link is fun but the system he is on has the worst controls for fighting games in the history of videogames. 3.Ps2 better control crapy bonus fighter. Ok if ya dont own a XBox i feel for ya your missing out but this game is so great even with the flaws of the Cube and the Dumb dude they threw in on ps2 you will love this game. Puts Mortal Combat to shame in every way.

THE SOUL STILL BURNS

It has been a long 4 years for Soul Calibur fans. Since 1999 the first game has wowed me day in and day out, and tournament in and tournament out. It touched my SOUL as no other game has. With the world to live up to, how could Namco take on the task of a sequal. Just like this. Change some, but keep the overall feel the same, and that's just what Namco did.

As the old saying goes "if it's not broke don't fix it", well I'm here to tell you Soul Calibur was not broke. In Soul Calibur 2 you will have an oppertunity to learn from amoungst 20+ fighters, some old, a few new. You will have a chance not just to learn there moves, but to develop a personnal style all your own. That's the best part of the game. The fighting system is so deep, it gives you a chance to pick a fighter, learn the system of the game and the rules that apply to all fighters, then to learn your specific character, and finnally to divise your own style to that character. When you do all this, your fighter will fight like no other, not even other people who use your same character. While there are a few single player hooks, the real game is taking that fighter that you have trained with and spent countless hours perfecting, and pitting them against another person who has spent the same amount of hard work on there fighter. The matches will never get old, and will never be the same. With that said, if you do have someone to fight against, this game has endless replay value. But what if you don't have a friend?

As for the single player game, you can still do as I said, and learn a character, and give him style. But if you can only test him on the computer, while the computer can be a challenge on say the hardest difficulty, it's stiff fighting style will lack the soul of a human controlled player, and will not be as fun a match. There is also the Weapon Master mode for single player. I don't think this was as fun as the Mission Battles of the first game. Especially the dungens, they were to long and repetitive. I got tired after fighting Berserker 20 times in a row. In this mode you can earn money to buy weapons for each character (about 10 for each). They all have some sort of special function, like extended reach or they rejuvinate your life with each swing, but none of that really adds any fun to a fight. I would have prefered it if the weapons just looked different, but funtioned the same. You can also purchase extra stuff like art, costumes, stages, and modes. Now for my real complaint. In the first Soul Calibur there were over 300 great art pics you could unlock, in this game there is only one set of about 10 (excluding the character select screen pics, and the concept pics that have been floating around the net for the past year). In all there might be 50, but only a few worth looking at. As for the X-Box only Spawn, he's a worthless character along with Todd McFarlane's Necrid. All in all this is hands down a must buy game, especially for fans of the first game, but also for every gamer.

Great for newcomers to the world of fighting games but...

The game is pretty good. Even if you are a newcomer you can get away with button mashing. The only thing that button mashers wouldnt get away with was the amount of blocking you had to use in this game. Games like Tekken needed a little skill and you had to know what you were doing. In this, you have a diverse weapon and can purhase more weapons through the story mode. I also want to say that the story mode is short and easy. That was the main problem in this game. Here are your Pros and Cons. I just dont like how each system has a different new character. PS2 for Heihachi, Gamecube for Like, and XBOX for Spawn (O ya)

PROS:
- Game has a great fighting system with great characters and great weapons.

- MIND BOGGLING graphics

- Detailed characters.

CONS:

- Short story mode

- Game gets repetitive

- Different systems have different new character

All in all, this game has great fighting for the newcomer, but the repetition in this game got to me and i got bored fast. If it was just a little more addictive it would be a great game and a great seller. all it needed was just a tad more of addiction.

soul calibur 2 was the first game I ever played on the xbox and it's still the game I love the most on it. And it was a cool expierrience for me because usally, every game that I play first the first time with a friend, I get annilated. Wich sucked because I was at a friend's house at a party. But, for some reason even without button smahing, for about 40 minutes I was iceing my friend. The controlls are relatively easy and as long as you don't keep smashing the hell out of just one button you shuld do pretty good.Compared to what iv'e heard about the orriganal on the arcade format, and the dreamcast, soul calibur 2 has som mager improvements. like sound, music and qaulity is awsome on the xbox and there alott of charecter improvements. And theres a big plus that there is a unique charecter for each system, Spawn is awsome on the xbox. The women charecters in the game are pretty hot to, like Ivy. I usally play as her because of the whole sword-whip thing, thats virtuall unblockable. Overall the entire game specs including graphics, soud, interactivity, etc get an 11 out of 10 from me. My only bief with this game is that it's not availible on the pc, there are'nt many fighting games that are though but i'm gona be buying an alienware soon that would have been space on my hard drive well worth it. So please buy this game, you won't regrate it...

SOUL CALIBUR II

This is a fairly great game. The XBOX version includes Spawn but there's no Link on XBOX. =( Dead or Alive 3 has better graphics & also better backgrounds. But in Dead or Alive 3 there's no weapons. So if you like to hit your enemies with weapons get this game. If you want good graphics and superb backgrounds, get Dead or Alive 3.

Pros:
*Unlockable features including characters, costumes, arenas, & more.
*Collect & use over 200 cool weapons
*Over 15 warriors
*Weapon Master mode (Kind of easy)

Cons:
*Dead or Alive 3 has better graphics & backgrounds
*No Link

Cons & Pros:
*No Blood (Depends on if you like violence or not)

Hope this review helped you =P

Soul Caliber 2 is one of the best fighting games ever. The graphics are AMAZING. The detail put into the characters is uncanny. The gameplay is flawless. The game was released on all three major platforms and features a different unique character to each. On the XBox version, there is Spawn, the great Marvel comics character.

The mission sequence of this game is great and I love how you can buy different weapons for your characters. Each weapon has a different strength and ability. There really is no downfall to this game at all. The selection of characters is great and all the characters have great back stories.

If you enjoyed the first Soul Caliber, then you will definitely love this game. It has the most REALISTIC graphics and gameplay. The only other game series I would compare it to is DOA.
