Fear Effect is a game you will want to play for the plot!

When you first play FEAR EFFECT the first thing you will think is resident evil.Wrong!,this is not just another resident evil clone. It's far from it infact it's a completly different game(gasp!).The first thing different is the plot. From the start you will realize that this is a drama not "Matts turning into a zombie, kill him!" This game is much more safistamacated than that=)It contains subjects such as;prostitution, murder, the cost of life, eternal damnnation, and friendship. It all turns out to be a very well balanced plot with a little anime nudity if you go for that kind of thing=)If you are a fan of survival horor,or just in the mood for a good mature story play FEAR EFFECT.Lastly I would like to say dont play FEAR EFFECT if you are offended by graphic violence and gore, anime nudity, profanity, and subjects dealing with hell. After all I am very concerned for the gameing public(just ask my friends, mmj&c)Well thats just about it.Play Fear Effect,Its well worth the time.

Excellent!

Fear Effect is excellent! The graphics are fun, the storyline is great, the gameplay is exciting... It is the best game I have played in a while.

THE DOWNSIDE: The game has very little replay value, and it is not very long. It only took a few hours to beat. The game IS fun, though -- once I beat it, I went right back to play through in Hard Mode. After that, though, there was nothing more to the game.

VERDICT: You should definitely rent this game if it interests you at all (you will not be disappointed). I would not recommend buying it, though.

A double edged sword

I have never played a game that was so great at the same time as being so bad. The atmosphere is cool. The action is fun and the story is good. However, certain parts of the game are WAY too hard. Especially on playstation where you have to wait 30 seconds for your game to load, it is very frustrating to have to replay sections that are near impossible to get by. You cant run very fast either which makes it hard to fight people. Also, what is very, VERY frustrating and down right outragous is that ther are a lot of parts that you have to die 10 times to figure out how to get past. That is stupid. I like games more like Resident evil 1-3 where you can reasonably pass through areas with a little caution and smarts. This game is not like that. I think they should have done a little more R + D before releasing it.

A dark masterpiece of a game

This game is a very cool game made specifically for adults and older teenagers. Some complain of it's challenges, but it's an adult game, and the challenge is needed. Being that I can blow through FFVIII, without an ounce of trouble, it's refreshing to see a game with a significant amount of challenge. Now onto the technical aspects. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen. The seamless blend of FMV and character graphics adds the all important atmosphere quotient to a game. The Blade Runner style environments of the first disc are a refreshing change from the cutesy perky environments of other recent games. From there the game buries deep into depravity, going to places I have never gone in games, that makes it worth the price by itself. The only trouble I have with the game, is the incredibly long load times, after you die. They are an extraordinary annoyance, but after getting back into the game, it just doesn't matter, and the endings are great too. Just an innovative, atmospheric, plot driven game made for adults. I've been looking for one of these for a long time.

Not what I expected...

When i read the reviews on this game i thought it was going to be an instant classic! What a suprise i got when i bought it. This game starts out way too slow for one thing, and also the games graphics are just terrible! The anime/ 3D style of graphics does not work at all. Looking at that game made my eyes water, it was like looking at a blurry picture. Besides that the game is a little cheap if you ask me. You will die countless times because of certain view or angles in the game. Not to mention the fear meter! That thing is worthless! Once the fear meter goes up, you have to get a one-hit kill for it to go back down. You should have a drink or something that can bring the fear meter down. Once you play this game through, you will not want to play it again, i know i didn't. The only thing some poeple might find interesting in this game is that their are a hand full of curse words, and a bit of skin. Then again it's only blurry polygons...

An awesome,unique adventure--from Eidos?

Whoa I was stunned when I first saw the opening cinema, I knew this was somthing special. And it definetly is. This title is excellent in ALL areas game, gameplay, graphics, storyline, inovation. This is one of the best games ive played in a long time. The only problem I had with it was you die, alot. It gets really annoying to reload the same point twenty times to beat this one certain boss/creature. And its a 4 disc jewel case! What more could you want from an excellent game?

fear effect is a totally unique game. i guess you could call this game a survival horror, but instead of using the tried and true resident evil format it uses a completely different format.the anime graphics are incredible, the puzzles are challenging, the voice acting is awesome.probably the best iv ever seen on the psx.the only draw back are the controlls.once you master the confusing controlls the only other flaw are the load times. you will find yourself dieing a lot and having to get to your last save point and waiting for it to load gets quite frustrating.otherthan those two flaws fear effect is a great game that may very well become a classic.as a veteran zombie killer i reccomend this game to anyone.

Fear Effect is Awesome

Fear Effect is a prime example of the survival horror genre. At the same time, it provides an atmosphere and storyline which is a huge change from the sometimes stoic Resident Evil, which is rare. Resident Evil set the standard, and while Fear Effect doesn't transcend it, it provides change.

The first, most striking thing about Fear Effect is it's odd graphical style. The characters are done in an anime style, but the backgrounds are done in a realistic style, and they also have streaming animations from the CD (for things like fans, and beeping lights). It is just really weird. I kind of like it. After awhile, like most games, you stop noticing. Even if you don't like the graphics, it is still worth playing. Don't let the graphics deter you.

The gameplay and combat in Fear Effect is great. The controls are somewhat awkward and annoying, like Resident Evil, though combat rolls, 180 degree turns, and auto-aim help them out, and the set camera angles occasionally get in the way of the action, but other than that the fighting is nearly perfect. For one thing, the fear meter is awesome. Many people complain about it, but I think it works well. For the most part, it is just a health meter, but things which increase your fear make you closer to dying as much as getting shot, like being spotted by enemies or running low on ammo. If you can sneak up behind enemies and snap their necks (which is cool), or find more ammo, or even just do well in fights, you become less fearful. Most people's problem with it is that Fear Effect moves the meter straight to red (one shot death) before certain boss fights and other bad situations. That is kind of lame, but it makes sense that you would about have a heart attack when you see a giant guy with a mini-gun. It is a fear meter, after all. By the way, the boss fights and enemies in the game are super.

Fear Effect's storyline is great. It is very well put together, and just plain cool. It is one of a very few games that has an original storyline. Some of the stuff that happens is awesome. Some of the places and events and situations induce shivers. The bleak future setting behind it all is nice, too. The three main characters, Hana, Glas, and Deke are nifty. They are kind of original, too. The voice acting is pretty good, which is a nice change from most games, and the cut-scenes are great.

The main problem with Fear Effect is its incredible difficulty. The actual combat itself is hard, whereas in most survival horror games the difficulty just comes from ammo and healing item management. The puzzles are also pretty tough, which is rare. It is also worth noting that the load times are terrible, which detracts a little from the game, but is compounded by the difficulty. Fear Effect is so hard that you need to restart often, so you have to load your game often, which makes for some fairly heavy waiting time.

Fear Effect is a must play game, especially if you've enjoyed other games from the survival horror genre. Fear Effect is worth it for the experience. You've got to play it to the end, despite its problems. I would suggest it to almost anyone, unless you had a violent reaction to playing Resident Evil. It only has about ten hours of actual gameplay, but it seems much larger due to how many times you must reload your game. Pick Fear Effect up. You'll probably like it.

Too ... Hard!

I have little patience when it comes to games like this. Makes me wish I hadn't bought it and I am still trying to get rid of it. Before buying take mine I will mail it to you before I hurl it through the wall. EGM said this was a good game and usually they are right. Well they blew it this time. Don't get me wrong it might be fun. Good concept, interesting story, Terribly frustrating gameplay and absolutely ridiculous boss fights. I never knew the playstation load time to be this irritating until I died 50 times in a row. O' YE OF LITTLE PATIENCE AVOID THIS ONE!
