Too ... Hard!

I have little patience when it comes to games like this. Makes me wish I hadn't bought it and I am still trying to get rid of it. Before buying take mine I will mail it to you before I hurl it through the wall. EGM said this was a good game and usually they are right. Well they blew it this time. Don't get me wrong it might be fun. Good concept, interesting story, Terribly frustrating gameplay and absolutely ridiculous boss fights. I never knew the playstation load time to be this irritating until I died 50 times in a row. O' YE OF LITTLE PATIENCE AVOID THIS ONE!

Not so impressive

I may be in the minority when I say that I am not a fan of Anime. Granted, the stories in Anime are usually superior, however, I consider the style of the art a very angular, one dimensional form, with liitle aesthetic quality. I also consider it a very over-rated form of animation in short, and Fear Effect falls perfectly into this scenero. The game certaily presents a very interesting story, however; it is difficult to calculate, and falling prey to death at such a consistant manner tends to be more than a little frustrating. Also, the dark animation tends to make the scenes more abtruse than they would otherwise be, thus making it at times impossilbe to view what articles need to be picked and/or utilized. I can get over my dislikes of the animation, but the game itself was not as fun as I thought it was going to be. Giving the gamer a challenge is one thing, but to play successfully at Fear Effect, you need lots of walkthrough help, and that's never fun if you have to refer back to it often enough during play time.

The Worst Game Ever!

Fear Effect is by _far_ the worst game I have ever played.

There are 3 playable characters - you start off with Hana, then Glas, then Deek. Instead of a blood meter you have a fear meter, which is green when you're calm and goes to red when you're afraid.

You can be killed with one shot when it's at red, but it goes to red as soon as you're in a fight! Which is why you die every 30 seconds and then it takes forever to reload.

This game is unbelievably difficult. You die over and over again just trying to get up a ladder, or some other simple task which they make nearly impossible. And the puzzles are so complicated you have to use the cheat codes to solve them. For instance, in the "disarming the bomb puzzle" there are several different colored wires and you have to clip them in the right order in only a few seconds, or *boom* and load saved game. Which gets to be very, very annoying.

The zombies on the 2nd CD are a joke, they're bright green with cut off jeans and occasionally take naps on the boardwalk (fetal position) The only thing scary about this game was its awfulness.

The last CD takes place in hell (which isn't as fun as you'd think.) In the final fight you choose between 2 characters, with different endings. Both of which are a let down after all you've done to get there. And the fight is also lame, instead of getting more ammo for hurting the Boss, you get paper bullets which you have to burn in a nearby fire to get the ammo. Even though you had to do this in hell, it's silly when you have to do it while fighing the ultimate monster.

Finally, even though there are 4 CD's the game is really short. It's just the continuous dying and reloading that makes it seem long.

~I would give Fear Effect 0 out of 5 stars if it was possible.

This game BAD! In fact, it's the worst game I have ever played! I totally wasted "My money"! The ending is bad and two main charachters are killed because of the ordinary and dumb storyline. Every enemy is annoying and stupid. I definitly do not recommend this game to gamers.

No good at all

This was my first playstation game, and I ended up returning it to the store 30 minutes after playing it. The control is horrendous, the puzzles irritating, the difficulty frustrating, and the game just not really satisfying at all. You might say that the control takes time to get used to, and I've played games with similiar control like Silent Hill, but it's such a flaw that I couldn't get past it. If you are interested in this game, rent it first.

Not what I expected...

When i read the reviews on this game i thought it was going to be an instant classic! What a suprise i got when i bought it. This game starts out way too slow for one thing, and also the games graphics are just terrible! The anime/ 3D style of graphics does not work at all. Looking at that game made my eyes water, it was like looking at a blurry picture. Besides that the game is a little cheap if you ask me. You will die countless times because of certain view or angles in the game. Not to mention the fear meter! That thing is worthless! Once the fear meter goes up, you have to get a one-hit kill for it to go back down. You should have a drink or something that can bring the fear meter down. Once you play this game through, you will not want to play it again, i know i didn't. The only thing some poeple might find interesting in this game is that their are a hand full of curse words, and a bit of skin. Then again it's only blurry polygons...

DISSAPOINTING

The game is ok, gameplay wise. The controls are a little awkward, and it may be annoying to switch through inventory while fighting compared to pausing, then switching a weapon. The controls are like those of many other action games, such as Resident Evil III and Galerians. They can be really awkward when solving the first puzzle in-game of the game. You always end up dying before you master the controls. It is really easy to die, and it is annoying that the Fear Meter gets worse if you are closer to an enemy, making it even easier to die than before. The first boss is nearly impossible to defeat if you dont have fully loaded mach pistols, and even then he is nearly impossible because he can kill you in two, sometimes one hit.It is MUCH MORE frustrating than challenging. Another flaw: this game can be beaten in less than five hours. i beat it the first day i rented it.

I recently rented this game and am wondering why everyone says this game is so great. Admitedly I never got far into the game, but I can consider myself a rather open-minded gamer and have a large fustration berth, but this game REALLY taxed it. The most obvious complaint being that this game just isn't fun. It tries way to hard to emulate RE, but doesn't capture the intensity, or fun factor. In fact the action stinks in this game. It's very easy to die here, and the battles are less skill based than having a better weapon. Maybe you should just rent the game and see if you like it, seeing as so many people disagree with me.

Don't believe the hype

First of all, I'd like to say that, contrary to what I'm reading, violence, nudity, and bad language do not make a game "mature."
Fear Effect PROS: Good graphics, fluid animation.
Fear Effects CONS: crappy voice acting, juvenille dialogue (yeah, real mature people), dull gameplay. Sorry, but I just couldn't get into this one. It was neat to see the cartoon-like graphics but the novelty was short-lived. I really wanted to like this game (after reading all the hype) but was sorely disappointed. It's just no fun.

too confusing
