TOO SPENDY!! But worth every penny of it!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

Final Fantasy Tactics is probably the best Strategy Rpg ever released. Squaresoft outdoes themselves everytime they release a game or now even a movie bearing the words "Final Fantasy". As of July 31 2001, Final Fantasy Tactics will be Re-released as a "Greatest Hits" Title and you can pick one up at any video game store for $...! Buy it at Amazon.com though. Final Fantasy tactics is the first game using the job system since FF5. You can control hundreds of characters and even Cloud and Aeris from FF7 make an apperance with Cloud Being a playable character! Buy this game now!

The greatest tactics game ever made

All I can say is that this game made me a true fan of stratgy based games. The only reason I bought this games was everyone said it was cool and I am a huge final fantasy fan. When I played this game I couldn't stop. The game play just pulls you in and doesn't let you out. The game is not ment for players who don't like tough games. This is the toughest game I have ever played. So if you do buy this title make sure to spend alot of cash and time. Have fun!

Worthy of the Final Fantasy name

Final Fantasy Tactics is a great RPG, and the only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that, taking nothing away from this phenomeonal game, Tactics Ogre was so much better. But this is about FFT...

FFT ventures into a genre of RPG not seen often until just recently (And still not that much) that is tactics style gameplay. Deeper than the active time battle of most RPG's nowadays, it puts more emphasis on having a good stratagy, making it seem more like a real battle would, with moving around and attacking from behind and being on higher ground.

The story, while good, in my opinion, wasn't the best they could've done, but it does earn points with me for being original and going into territory most other games stay away from, what with having churches involved in wrong doings and all...it is a great game but, like I said before, I found Tactics Ogre to be a much better overall game, but that shouldn't keep you from trying to own both of them if you have the chance ^^

A Great Game With No Limits

I got this game about 4 days ago, and I am hooked like a drug addict. I can honestly say that it is my favorite game. It used to be Ogre Battle 64. But this game is a lot more strategic and customible. The only bad part is the story could be more orignal and understandable. But gameplay and reply value is 6 out of 5. The graphics are perfect for this type of game. The music really sets the mood so if you don't understand what's going on in the talking scenes you can feel what's going on. I strongly suggest you buy this game. It would be a crime against nature not to.

It's Sick How Addicting This Game Gets...

I remember that Tactics came out around the time as breath of fire 3. I was vacationing in ohio, and my friend rented bof and i rented tactics. At the time i didnt give bof another glance... this game is addicting.

(it's interesting the fact that i wasnt crazy about FF5, but just how perfect tactics was) You start out with the option to be a squire or a chemist. every attack gives you exp. and job points. Get a certain amount of job points, gain a job level. Depending on what your job level is, different classes open up to you. squire, knight, archer, monk, white, black and time mages, summoner, lancer, ninja, samurai, bard, dancer, calculator.

This is where customization comes in. You can mix and match these skills you learn from Job points... it's sick. I think near the end of the game my main guy was a squire with two swords, (one of which being excalibur, which absorbs holy), who casts regen if he's hit, and can teleport around the room casting holy on people (good and bad) who meet certain mathematical formulas. The rest of my people wear chameleon robes (absorb holy) so i teleport around the battlefield calculating holy, hits me... big healing. Hits ememy... big damage. It's sick. And that's ONE of many possible combinations.

There are so many different ways to kill someone. And i didnt find the story that bad... and if you REALLY look for everything... i was over 60 hours. I'd love a FFT2 where they let your people fight against other people's people. Alas... doesnt exist.

play this game... once you get past the learning curve (not too long) it's something you'll beat and play again and again.

Another quality Final Fantasy Game

Like nearly every game in the Final Fantasy Series, this is one heck of a game. The graphics are quite good, and done in an anime-style format. I think the other reviewer's hangups came from peoples misunderstanding of anime graphics.
There should be no complaints about the interface, as it's more intuitive than most Strategy/RPG games I've ever played.
The job system allows such varied gameplay that each new game will never be the same. This adds a depth to the gameplay, and quite a bit of excitement as each new ability is added. The Lancer's no height ability is awesome, as this character can now jump to the top of high buildings!
There are only a few hangups. The first is that the characters in the battlescreens walk in place. What the heck is that?! Each character class should have their own unique stance, plus, we should see their weapons/shields at all times. We see them appear when they block or attack, so it shouldn't have been all that difficult to do this.
Also, the translation is horrible- a third grader could have written it better. This unfortunately obscures (and confuses many) from a well-done plot of political intrigue and warring kingdoms. A little work here would have made the game flawless. All in all, this is a 4.5 star game- not much needs improving.

My 100th review!

This game is fantastic to say the least. I would describe it as chess, but much, much better. Your "pieces" have many more moves and options, and the story runs deep with many interesting plot twists and turns, and a bittersweet ending.

The name "tactics" definitely fits. I had two friends who also played and beat this game multiple times (it is worth a second go-around, no matter how long it takes) and no two players went about the same strategy. But with 18 character classes (each character can have a primary and secondary class), you have the variety to tailor the game to your unique strategy.

Power's your thing? Go with Knights, Monks and Ninjas. Distance/finesse gamer? Go with Archers, Summoners and Wizards. Feeling eclectic? Dancers, Bards and Mimes, then. Each character class has a unique set of abilities that you learn on a "job class" system that rewards you for acting in battle.

The one BIG warning I have is that the learning curve is rather steep. This is a game that rewards patience and strategy. Go play Duke Nukem if you wanna blow up stuff. But if you want to play what many say is the greatest strategy epic of them all, it's right here. And amazon doesn't sell it here (far as I've seen), but Tactics has been released under the very economic "Greatest Hits" series, so go to the store and pick up a very inexpensive, very engrossing game. Two thumbs way up.

Best Game of All Time

The title really says it all, this is THE best game of all time. It is in my personal opinion, and most true gamers also have it as #1 on their lists.

However, this is very little like the typical FF. Instead of the boring and very annoying battles in all FFs, battle now takes place on a large, multi-layered, isometric 3D battle fields. You must move characters around to get into a good place for an attack, a strong defense, or even magic. It has an extensive job system including both EXP and JP (job points). There are many great jobs and a few useless, but customization of characters is very deep.

All in all, it's a great game with a decent story, graphics that get the point across, and a great battle system that brings much pleasure to just watch.

Best tactical game so far

This game has it all. There is a great plot, there are characters whose motivations and aims come to life on your television screen, there is great game-play (mastering the various jobs alone could invoke 50+ hours of gameplay), there are secrets (wanna see Aeris from VII? wanna fight with Cloud?), there is fantastic music (it never gets old, never gets stuck in your head), the controls are marvelous...I could go on and on and on. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys chess and has the discipline to sit and learn something themselves, with no assistance from others (that is the only detraction, a very steep learning curve). Ignore the final fantasy license, unless you are familiar with FF5, it means almost nothing (well character design and spell lists too, but aside from that the combat is different, etc, etc...).

Tough to get a handle on, but a lot of fun

The game is a bit hard to get used to. The movement and magic sequences tend to get confusing and slow. However, after a few hours of playing the game, you'll have all the basics down and better yet, you'll love playing this game. I can't express how much fun I have had playing the game. I actually sold it, being the fool that i am, but now I am going to buy it again just so i can relive the storyline.
