The second-most disappointing game of '99.

When word of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver first wound its way to the players of Blood Omen, people got psyched. Innovative gameplay, massive storylines, and dark and beautiful graphics were all bandied about for years, and each delay only made the fans want it more.

Now that it's out, they still want more.

The graphics and voice-acting are excellent, but the plot itself fails; Kain's brothers are little more than walking puzzles to steal powers from, and there's more than one moment where overly- pretty prose gets in the way of understanding. What's worse, ultimately, is the lack of diversity. Only a few types of monsters exist, and the graphics have a slight tendency to deceive (you'll often see a "tunnel" that is just a badly-shaded wall). Finally, almost none of the features reported early in game design made it into the game. In fact, there's very little game in the game, since despite the advertised game time at 60 hours, it's easily

finished in 24 on the first run.

Beyond disappointing.

good........but

I LOVED THIS GAME~
opening was good.........game play was good.
the only thing i did not like was part of the storyline.
IF you are as into the story line as i am .you KNOW that raziel was never in the first blood omen BUT in this game they said he was.( even placed him in the room with the orignal pillar people ( hehe )( you will know what i am talking about when you play)
HE never had a pillar and he was never in the first one.
GUUUUUR
other then that the rest of the story line was very nice.
the ending made me want to cry as well....
with that aside i say YAH HOOO this game rocks. you need to rent it or buy it or get someone to play it for you.

One of the firsts, and one of the best

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was one of the first games made for playstation and to this day is still one of the bestSoul Reaver follows the story of Raziel, a badass vampire who's trying to get revene on his former master Kein. Raziel must travel through the spectral realm and the real realm defeating 9 vampire tribes to get stronger and defeat Kein.Wgat makes this game fun is the fact that you can go anywhere you want at anytime. Also the graphics were way ahead of it's time. The fighting is this game is amazing, you get to use Raziels brutal vampire attacks and you can use spears which can either throw for a one hit kill or beat the living crap out of your enemies. The bad things about this game is that there is absolutely no sense of direction in this game. I had to refer to the internet man;y times to figure out where to go next. Also I heard that the ending sucks. I never beat the game because I couldn't get into Keins lair at the end. This game has a few flaws, but as long as you have a strategy guidej, it can the funnest games you'll ever play.

The Legacy Continues...

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - Circa 1999

GOOD:
- Mature and Dark foreboding story based on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, with lots of twists and turns
- Voice work is really good
- Large Gothic world to explore

BAD:
- Graphics looked dated, to today video game players
- Raziel can really only use two weapons a staff and the sprit sword soul reaver
- Lots of old fashion block pushing
- Has a "to be continued ending"

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Lots of exploring, lots of block moving
- An original take on the Vampire story
- Takes place in a medieval type of world similar to Dungeon and Dragons

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Tomb Raider 2
- Vagrant Story
- Castlevaina: Symphony of the night

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- This is the first game in the Soul Reaver franchises but a spin off of the Blood Omen franchises
- Blood Omen and Soul Reaver are two different franchises that fall under the Legacy of Kain franchise
- A version of this game was also made on the P.C. and Dreamcast

The most powerful vampires

This game is the greatest, the best game ever made for the PlayStation. It is incredibly so much better than Metal Gear Solid. The only problem that I have is that I always think of the first, about how much fun I had when controlling Kain and joining him on his many adventures and what he has now done in the sequel. Still, this game can only be described as "PERFECT." It is definately a MUST BUY no matter what. If you don't buy this game, then you've got a really serious problem.

Outstanding Game

This is a really good game with outstanding graphics. The storyline is compelling and gainging new abilities and being able to explore different sections of the same place keeps the game fresh.

I like blue men!

Looking for rise off of naked blue men with green capes reminding you of your hero to save you. Well this game is for you. I first got introduced by one of my friends I mean an acquaintance. His favorite games soon showed me that he really wasn't all that bright. He said (In a gay womenly voice) "Hey try this game out." So I said hey what the hell. As I took it home I hid it away so no one would see it. So I popped it into my Playstation and even it rejected it. So after a couple of trys it finally ran. So the title screen appeared...I never knew this was an alien/vampire porno flick. The idea of impailing naked green "Slaughs" as their called in the game isn't my idea of a thrill. After killing them their balls shoot out numbing the mind into thinking why the main character would have to eat them to gain energy. Wow now I know im scared. Then the mysteriousnes of tredding through the two mystical worlds (one retarted...another more retarted) is as amazing as tredding through a piece of sh*t. Answer me this: If a vampire/gay alien, has his mouth ripped off how can he eat balls or talk? Its amazing!! "Feed on the balls of your enemies" "Explore the vast pieces of crap and an extra bonus its a ball buffet!!" The main character is not only a gay alien but is supposedly a vampire. His arch enemy is another vampire but is about...I don't know a billion times better then him (Just a rough estimate). The most amazing complex part of the gameplay is his amazing three hit combo. WOW THREE HITS!! Then press x to dodge/lunge and triangle to impale. Oh the complexity. My mind strains over this sh*t. Well if you like to get off to blue alien like men...Go for but I suggest you don't waist your money.

One huge glitch, you may want to avoid this game!

I played this game years ago, but I never got to where I am right now! I'm at the part where you should float on top of the pipes to get to Zephon's Lair, and one thing is that there is almost no way to get past that part; if you're lucky, you will make it the first time, if not, you will be trying over 500 times, nothing!
This game can also be frustrating as in difficulty, you can get lost very easily! I just do not recommend this game, unless you love to deal with bugs! Avoid at all costs!
