I've played games for many years. I've never thought much of sequels, and I sincerely doubted much could top the story of Blood Omen. However, Soul Reaver is by far the best game I've ever played or invested my money in. It would be embarrassing to admit how many hours I've played it, beaten it and done it all over again. The story was gripping, and tied into the original well (provided you found certain secrets in the original). If you only ever buy one game for any system, this should be it. The ONLY problem I had was the way they ended it...but you'll have to play it to appreciate the clever marketing.

I admit I am not much of a vampire fan but this game is just sweet! the opening FMV(Full Motion Video) looked like something on a next gen. console. In-game graphics are very well done and with the amazing story-line and sound. You can't go wrong!!! By the way, there is a weapon in the game called the "Soul Reaver" which is amazing. BUY NOW!!!

Much improved sequel

Soul Reaver is much improved over Blood Omen, the graphics being the most notable improvement. The story line is grusome, yet completely involving. You can do alot of damage to your opponents and Kain is probably the most dynamic and pitiful character (appearance wise) to date. The dark, moody atmosphere is not only necessary, it is downright cool and adds a great deal to the game overall. The music score is fairly decent and controls are tight. Load times have been much improved as well.

The only real problem with the game is lack of direction. It is never quite clear what you are supposed to do next so you spend alot of time wandering around waiting for something to happen. Other than that, its a good game. Also, replay value is fairly low because nothing really changes. All in all, a good, easy and fun game to kill a few hours with.

pretty cool

This game is awesome! The two best things about the game are the fighting and the enviroments. 1. The fighting: You can sneak up on the enemy, hit them around with your weapon until they're in a dazed, bloody state. Now you can either throw them in the sunlight or water and watch them burn (they're vampires) or you can impale them! And also, there is a bunch of awesome weapons! You can get a battle ax, a scythe-type thing, or you can choose from a wide variety of staffs! 2. The enviroments: There is a lot of gothic, dark-looking architecture in this game. The whole game is just jaw-dropping! Literally!

The puzzles are really fun too. And the story and voice acting is pretty good. The only real con is that it gets very boring sometimes. But that's any reason you shouldn't buy the game.

BEST GAME ON PLAYSTATION!!!...

This game, hands down, is the greatest game on the Playstation in my opinion. The game has a great story that keeps you wanting to play. I must admit though that I did need a stratigie guide for this game because I'm not a pro gamer and I don't like puzzling my brain for hours on what to do, what can I say I'm a cheater, I admit it. That aside, this game is difficult, but even if you do need a stratigie guide it's still a great game. Even the voice acting is good which is very rare for video games. All the power ups and possible weapons are great! This isn't just hurt the enemie until he is dead, you actually need to find a way to kill them, and seeing that they are vampires you could throw them in fire or water or impale them with a spear or throw them on spikes on the wall! The choises are endless, and in the end suck thier souls for life. The camera angles are even good which is very, very rare for a 3D platform game. The only thing I didn't like is all the puzzles and the ending fell short leaving it open for a sequel but that wasn't enough to take it down a star. So after all that my bottom line is Get This Game!!!!!

A bit like Blood omen this game has it's up's and down's. Up that you don't have to kill the nine people down that you must kill your brother's and that you have to fight kain when he has the soul reaver which is a pain I know I own the game and blood omen. But un like omen the soul reaver keep's you alive after you get it from kain.

This is a great game for all people who love dark games and vampires and enjoy action games. Soul Reaver is full of puzzles to solve and enemys to kill. It's great fun and it isn't to hard that will be throwing your controller at the T.V. It's fun and action packed and it will make you want to purchase the other legacy of kain games to get the whole story.

Less then a week to beat!

Kain has opted not to sacrifice himself, and there are forces out there that would have you believe that this once noble knight was now a selfish and aarogant tyrant, and while this seems true if there's one thing we learned from Blood Omen, things are not as they appear.
1000 or more years after Blood Omen Kain has been exaulted to the status of a god. He has raised up an army of vampires lead by his first "born" Lt. Raziel and lashed out at the humanity that had attempted to erradicate the vampires under the leadership of Mobieus.
Every so often a vampire enters a state of change and evolves. Raziel sprouted bat like wings, and in what seemed like a jealous rage Kain tore the wings from his back and ordered Raziel to be executed. But that is only beginning. Centuries later, Raziel awakens, battered, torn, and not even a shadow of his former glory. A mysterious entity calls to him and orders him to exact his revenge on Kain. The story is pretty straight forward compared to Blood Omen, and Soul Reavor 2, it's still a story of epic proportions but not as good as it's prequel and sequel. Still it's integral to the over all story. If you haven't played it yet shame on you, but get the Dreamcast or PC version.

Soul Reaver stands as one of the most excellent games I have ever played. Everything, from the incredible voice-acting and music, the intriguing story, the wonderful graphics and backgrounds and the puzzles and challenges come together to form a highly atmospheric gothic gaming experience. It has a storyline that takes itself seriously and stays with you; the game completely [pulls] you in; I was completely immersed in Raziel's story of revenge and, to some extent, self-discovery.

However, despite all the hype I'm giving it, I did have some difficulties with it. I quite like block puzzles, which seem to be included in some way or another in most adventure games, but it seemed to get quite excessive at some points. I think as well that Soul Reaver was quite advanced for the PSX; there were no loading times and the graphics were brilliant, but there were times when the picture would get buggy; the action would slow right down, making your movements confusing. The camera angles also had this annoying habit of switching automatically to the least useful angle at some points. As well, though it was quite fun, searching for the Glyphs (elemental spells) really wasn't neccessary at all in the game. I used a Glyph once during the entire course of the game. There were also parts in the game which included a lot of round-about routes that made for a lot of accurate jumping; those parts frustrated the hell out of me.

So, with all the complaints I've given, why am I still giving it five stars? Because really, these are minor faults in a great game. Though the game ends in a cliffhanger, there was a sense of satisfaction that I got once I completed it that made it all worth it. The story could not be spoken of enough, though I'm sensing we only scratched the surface in that respect in this game. I'm definitely getting Soul Reaver 2 in the future.

Bottom line: If you love an interesting, dark story, solving puzzles and have the patience to get through challenges, and some quite frustrating, this game is for you.
