Don't get it

Konami is just tring to make money by making a Resident Evil-style game, and they failed miseribly. The Controls really need work and you can only see like5 feet in front of you. The worst part is it is more confusing than scary.

Horror doesn't exist until you've played Silent Hill

Blair Witch Project... Resident Evil... weekend with thein-laws. None of these have nearly the same amount of bone-chilling terror as this excellent action / strategy / horror game (which, just for the record, has a story line which seems to have been an influence from Dean Koontz's 'Phantoms'). Unbelievably and intensely scary is the only way to sum it all up and still do it justice. As a young man searching for his lost daughter, you must wander through a deserted mountain town, occasionally in it's nightmare alternate universe. There are also multiple endings along side sideplots which will keep you interested in going through the game more than once. With it's addictive gameplay & storyline (and even numerous pop-culture references including Sonic Youth & Trainspotting among others), this game is a must for anyone who enjoys experiencing excellent moments in video game history, or just enjoys being scared out of their mind.

Konami dove into the world or survival horror with this offering, stepping on the toes of Capcom who pioneered the genre with the Resident Evil series.

Konami clearly tried to push the envelope in terms of providing a terrifying experience, and in that, they've succeeded. While it's certainly eerie to be chased by zombies, Konami took it to a new level with incredibly dark settings and sounds.

Unfortunately, Konami didn't quite have the gameplay quite right. The controls were a bit awkward, and the main character just didn't move as smoothly as I would have liked. The graphics were only so-so, and the lack of snappy FMV was a big minus. Another problem was that the plot was a bit anemic -- overall, the game just could have used a lot more work.

Nonetheless, it's a fair offering, because the sheer terror value of the game in many ways surpasses the RE series. If Konami works on the controls, improves animation, and adds more eye candy, they could have a hit series.

Don't play this game after midnight.

The first day I got this game, I played it until way after midnight. Paranoia and fear don't begin to describe what this game gave me that night. If you love to be scared, this is your game.

Ultra lame!

I love video games, especially when they're creepy...but this game just bites. The game play is lame, the characterization is less than interesting and all you do is run around for ever and nothing interesting happens. I say if you want a good game...don't buy this one.

terrifing, don't play alone in the dark

Simply The Best RPG/Horror Game On The Market

Buy the game, wait untill midnight, turn off the lights and load Silent Hill on your playstation. You'll find yourself totally absorbed in the creepy town of Silent Hill (where all the streets are named after horror writers). Where is your daughter? Whats with the mist? Where have the towns people gone? Trying to find the answers of these questions only lead to more questions as to whats really going on and then the horror sets in. Well, most of the horror is actually just suspense - especially when the static on your transistor radio detects a Winged Beastie or one of those mutant zombie killer dogs. Some of the music is pretty creepy too - like the Sonic Youth inspired distorted feedback (and with 3 SY band members mentioned by name in the game I wonder if maybe they even contributed to the score). The game is a little short but I liked that the game wasn't too hard to finish, unless you want to get a good ending wich may take a little longer. If you like a little horror now and then its a pretty safe bet you'll enjoy this game.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

Do not waste your money buying this game. The game ends up being very boring and dull. All you do is run around in circles half the time and getting nowhere but fustrated. And I know there were a couple of times when a creepy critter would come out of the ceiling and make me jump a little, but that's certainly not worth what this game costs.

It IS worth it

Before the release of Silent Hill, I was left playing the Resident Evil Series....waiting inpatiently for this game to place itself in my greedy little hands. When it was finally out, I bought without hestitation, popped it into my Playstation and continued to play, with others watching, 'till nightfall. I honestly became so frightened that I had to give the controller to someone else to continue. This game is worth it...and I have to admit, a nicely developed story as well. Those who reviewed the game negatively, probably became frustrated because they could not finish the game :o)
