Pure terror

People may complain about the controls or whatever, but no matter what they say, this is still the SCARIEST MEDIA OUT THERE, be it movies, video games, or books. I couldn't sleep for ages after playing this game. How scary is it? I can tell you I can imagine our world turning Silent Hill clearly (because of how well they made the story and game) and if it did, I'd NEVER leave my room!

The ultimate survival horror game

This game blows Resident Evil away. It takes creepy and multiplies it by two. There are so many good points in the game to make it playable again and again.

Some of my personal favorite things about the game are how the streets are named after horror writers like Stephen King and Ray Bradbury. I love it when you enter into a room and hear voices or soft crying but no one is around. It really intensifies the game. The sound track is awesome. At certain points the music gets so loud it sounds like it's pounding and your pulse starts to increase because you just expect something to happen but you don't know what. The best part is you're just a normal person. If you run for a long time you'll get winded and start panting. Also when you use the gun the enemy will have to be close or you won't come anywhere near hitting them.

I'm a little disappointed with the ending though. It's very confusing and leaves questions unanswered. I can easily overlook this though.

finally, a resident evil clone that is scary and fun!

when resident evil came out on the PSX, dozens of clones like parasite eve came out. But until like 1998 when silent hill came out and so did resident evil 2 came out. and silent hill is scarier and more fun to play because you control the camera angles. And the thing i like about this game is that if you press the L2 button, the camera will go right behind harry. And you got a nice arsenal of weapons like chainsaws, rock drills, guns, knives, axes, hammers and more. plus it has twilight zone endings. I wont tell you them. overall if you're a resident evil or a survival horror fan, you owe it to check out the silent hill series.

Subtle horror that makes you sleep with one eye open

Resident Evil surprises; it horrifies. Silent Hill terrifies and changes you. It's true horror value lies not in gore, but in the subtle way that it changes the familiar into the groteque. While some may complain at their being no way to fully understand it the first time through, it is a well thought out imaginitive game that warrant the effort it takes to fully unearth all of its secrets. This is a must buy for all horror fans.

Really, really scary

I usually don't like action games, but this game just grabs you and won't let you go. You play the role of a normal guy who has to survive the horrors of Silent Hill - a resort town where everything seems to have gone wrong. In search of his daughter he encounter a lot of strange beasts, which he has to fight off and find out what actually happend on Silent Hill.

The game seriously scared me. The graphics is elegant, and the music and sound fx really builds tension. What makes this game stand out from most PS games are two things:

1) The plot/story works really well, almost like a good Stephen King novel. The whole gaming experience is *very* tense.

2) Some very good puzzles. While most console games limits puzzles to "find key X for lock X", this game actually uses LucasArts-like puzzles. Very nice.

The only down side to the game is that it's a little short, but the replay value is definitely there as there's four different endings. A must have!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

Do not waste your money buying this game. The game ends up being very boring and dull. All you do is run around in circles half the time and getting nowhere but fustrated. And I know there were a couple of times when a creepy critter would come out of the ceiling and make me jump a little, but that's certainly not worth what this game costs.

Masterpiece

Sillent Hill isn't a Resident Evil copy, even if it is survival horror, this game is full of twists and surprises,in the middle of the game you hear an alarm,it's very annoying.Silent Hill'allows the gamers to go almost everywhere, except where the streets are cu short. If you look carefully you'll find something surprising, like in the silence of the lambs..skins five(I forgot the name)in a flower shop there is an announcement..''try our new carnivore plant''(The little shop of horrors.Silent Hill may get you a little jumpy during and after the game.Silent Hill is somewhat superior to RE,when I was going to buy the RE 2 game my mother(I'm 12)asked the attendant if RE was going to get me all scared. He asked for references, and when I told him I played through Silent Hill he gave me the game.

Before the release of Silent Hill, I was left playing the Resident Evil Series....waiting inpatiently for this game to place itself in my greedy little hands. When it was finally out, I bought without hestitation, popped it into my Playstation and continued to play, with others watching, 'till nightfall. I honestly became so frightened that I had to give the controller to someone else to continue. This game is worth it...and I have to admit, a nicely developed story as well. Those who reviewed the game negatively, probably became frustrated because they could not finish the game :o)
