Super Mall Tycoon 2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 32 / 37

I have just bought Mall Tycoon 2 and its one of the best tycoon games I have ever played and I have most of them. I also have the previous version, Mall Tycoon 1 and it was ok but no where near as much fun as this one. The graphics, now 3D people, the music, the gameplay, everything has been improved from the previous game. I see its a new developer who has done this one and it shows. I enjoyed trying to build our local mall and I can get very close to it. Its amazing, if they only had the stores with their right names, you would think you were actually there. The first person mode is really cool, you can walk right around the mall and even go into the stores.
If you want a good tycoon game, I recommend this one HIGHLY

Actually Fun and Addicting

As you can see in other reviews other people didnt have any luck getting it to work. But for me it is actually one of the few I HAVE got to work. Now i had a tough time deciding whether to give this a 3 or 4 star rating. First of it is a very fun game, and it is pretty simple laying down florring and shops. But the hard part was managing the money. I had the hardest time trying to find a happy medium trying to place how much each shop payed in rent and how much of their income I got.If you placed it to high the store would run out of business,to low you wouldnt make any money. But finally after an hour or two of experimenting I found something that was atleast making me a profit and keeping the stores around.
So I gave it four stars because it is fun and addicting. And as I said before it is easy to lay ou shps and stuff like that. So I would say buy it.

Rome - and apparently the mall - wasn't built in a day

Okay, first off, this game plays quite nicely on my system, which is only a few months old and rocks righteously.

I built two malls and promptly went bankrupt both times before I went online searching for a strategy guide or cheat codes. [Caveat - no cheat codes apparently exist. I think all simulations should have cheat codes for impatient people like me who just want to get down to the business of building and not futz around with legitimate strategy. I found plenty of sites that claimed to have codes, but they all worked on MT1, not MT2.]

I found a detailed strategy guide by a regular player type (who obviously has more patience than an army of preschool teachers) by the name of "soldyne" that does a pretty good job of explaining the game and how to actually make a profit and keep playing for a long time.

The biggest tip I can offer is G-O S-L-O-W. If you try to research everything all at once or hire expensive staff right off the bat or fill up your mall with all the objects too early, you won't be able to recover, even with loans.

Build the mall that soldyne suggests. Start small and expand only when you're making a profit. Expand slowly, going up rather than out. Watch your shops carefully and adjust rents and sales cut according to their performance.

For ten bucks, I've found this to be a pretty fun simulation game. It just requires a lot of patience - maybe more than $10 worth.

Aimless game

This is not a good game to play. I bought this game and tried to play it. After a while, I found that this game is not entertaining at all, quite confusing, and aimless. The objective of each mission is not so clearly stated and you are puzzled with its control panel. You'll have an array of building tools and options. But you don't know what to do with them. No tutorial included, poor 3D graphics, pity music/sound ambient, confusing gameplay, aimless obejectives.

I wish I wasn't attracted to its cover and publisher notes at the back of the CD case. I suggest you to avoid this game. Buying this game is worthless, wasting your time, and not fun at all.

An Absolute 'Do NOT Buy!'

Okay, I for one fact, enjoys all the tycoon games (rollercoaster tycoon, Zoo tycoon, and so on...) I thought this game would be fun because I am a shopoholic and I thought to myself - "wouldn't just be great if I can make my own shopping mall?"
and so I bought this game.

Much to my dismay however, this game totally sucks! It's very hard to get it to work and I installed this game nearly 10 times and it's still not working. My computer is definitely compatible but I don't know what's wrong. I tried to clean out other files on my disk but it still wouldn't work.

Well, later I went on their website (Mall tycoon 2's website) and downloaded the demo which I thought might tell me how this thing would work. Unfortunately again, after I installed it on my computer it still wouldn't work! It just sits there on the screen and when I tried to open it, nothing happens.

I told my dad about the problem (my dad's computer engineer) and he can't get the game working either! Well, then I contacted Globalstar and they haven't replied me for months!

I just recently got it working thanks to one of my friends in school but again to my dismay, the game is absolutely horrible!

Why it's bad:
- The graphics are horrible
- The people in the game have no faces
- There's no tutorial so you have to figure it out yourself
- The scenarios are not at all interesting
- You run out of money almost instaneously
- It's really hard to zoom in

I only gave it 2 stars because you can actually do something in the game (building a mall) that is, if you can get it working.

I did not really enjoy playing this game as much as I did playing other Tycoon and Sim games.

3 words: Do Not Buy!

Cant even play this game. A total waste.

What a waste of 30+ dollars. I had purchased the original, and even though had so many problems operating it. Due to numerous bugs, contained in the game. Figured, with this new title. They would have put out a better product. Only to find out I was sadly mistaken. This company sells you a non useable game. I put the game in, it crashes back down to the desktop. I did all the things the the tech support website instructed. to run it, still crashes. They have no live tech support, just an email address, and a website. Where, hundreds of people have posted complaints about the same issue, that I have. You would think the company would get back to thier customers about this issue, it has been over 2 months, and have not gotten an email, or a reply, to the website, no patch nothing. The company, and the game is a rip off. Another poster obviously got thier game to work, who posted such a great review for this game. But, I am here to attest. That this game is a waste. For the sake of those thinking about purchasing this game. Take a look at thier tech support website@ globalstarsoftware.com read about all the complaints others are having about this game. Before u go and waste your money. Just trying to help a fellow gamer out.

store blackout

before even CONtemplating purchasing this game. I suggest you check out their forum site. (which Globalstar apparently doesn't too much) Even tho, there has been a patched released. Many people are still having problems getting the game to run. as in, ad, ad, BLACKOUT, boot to desktop. Even tho, they are running a variety of video cards that 'technically' should work! (updated drivers, tried all sorts of setting, etc)

I am one of the 'lucky' few to get this game to run. (pretty much 32 bit 800 x 600 only is what the general view is) problems with any other setting.

and... it's an 'ok' game.. but once the 'novelty' wears off.. it will probably be another coffee pretty coffee coaster.

Waste of time, money and energy

This is undoubtedly the worst simulation game to have ever been released. The graphics are poor, even at the highest resolution; the game is both confusing and uninteresting; and the scenarios are, at best, uninspired. Don't bother with this game...buy Tropico, Zoo Tycoon, or something else designed by people with talent.

At first I was all excited about buying Mall Tycoon 2. I thought it would be really neat, but I can't even get the game to run, it just goes back to the desktop everytime. This is my first Tycoon game I have ever bought now I am afraid to buy any more of them.

Educational tool!

The game seems to run fine on my Nvidia 5200 card. The online instructions are not very detailed, yet it was easy to get going. I would recommend that players "map" out the mall on paper to get all the "modules" to fit efficently. The kids seem to enjoy the graphics and it is a good educational tool for teaching basic supply/demand and customer relations ideas.
