A good game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 8

A lot of people may say that the game is nothing but just killing things. But it has a good story and always gives you something to work for. When I first got it, I couldn't put it down. I just had to keep going to see what other secrets I could find. Anyone who loves a good game with a good story should pick this up. Also, the multiplayer is awesome! If you've got a few friends over, this is the game to play. You won't be dissapointed.

The only game you actually keep after finishing it!

I buy games all the time for the PS2. After finishing them I turn around and sell them. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is the only game that I believe is worth keeping. It is so much fun, especially when you play with other people. I was a huge fan of the original gauntlet and let me tell you...this version is excellent. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

More than an update to Legends, but not quite a sequel

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is Midway's update to Gauntlet: Legends. For those unfamiliar with Gauntlet, it's an overhead view, 3D hack and slash action game with a medievil theme. New features include 4 new realms, 4 new main characters, plus repolished graphics and gameplay. Rest assured, this PS2 version is a perfect translation of the arcade game. The designers have made some good decisions in adding helpful hints and tweaks to every aspect of the game. Each character can now perform a more powerful version of their standard attack to ward off stronger enemies, clues to find secret areas are littered across the playing field, and food items added to the shop all make this version of Gauntlet a more enjoyable experience. Even though the gameplay can still become monotonous after a while, there are more incentives than ever included to keep you playing. Lots of secret characters/items are available to search for, and certainly help add replay value. There are still a few graphical and hit detection glitches that could use fixing, but most are minor and don't detract from the gameplay. Dark Legacy isn't quite a true sequel, but I believe enough new features are included to make it worth buying even if you already own Legends.

5 stars because it's an arcade perfect port!

If you've played the arcade game and like it! Buy this! It's an arcade perfect port! If your not familar with the Gauntlet series, then rent it first! It's not for everyone! Those only familar with the "Legends" version, there are double the worlds in this! Those in here saying it's graphics are the same as the N64 are either blind or fulla (it)! I have both the n64 and DC "Legends" versions, and this is the best yet! Only reason I'm writing this review, is because of such game review incompetency by the kiddies who have a hard time appreciating anything other than their beloved 3D fighters!

great use of multitap

this game is the best arcade, type ps2 game. Gaining levels is so cool in this game. I really like this game, Co-operative games are the best. Freaking awesome, 4 player co-op made it so cool, the only problem with it was finding people that wanted to play it. I really wish they are making a sequel for this, maybe make it online.

this game did lead to some, "that crystal was mine, now you must die for taking it" arguments, although if you play co-op if any person gets a crystal it goes towards everyones thats playing. the golden object however did not. Then there was the constant, "you got more gold than me, i hate you" fights. This game started to remind me of 'zombies ate my neighbors' in the fact you can't seperate from your party, i swear everyone should have used the old 'toejam and earl' split screen method. This game would probably be even better on-line because the person you were playing with wouldn't be right next to you, so you wouldn't be able to hit the other person, when you got mad at them.

all in all great game.

Surprisingly...Good!

I was beyond surprised that when I played this game, I was actually enjoying myself! The old style of hack and slash from the original arcade cult classic didn't seem to appeal to me quite much, but after what seemed like minutes into playing the game, I realized I've been at the game for hours with my now Level 34 Knight (Protector). If that wasn't addicting enough, multiplayer enhances gameplay by quite muchm increasing the fun factor amazingly. I highly recommend this game for anyone who wants to feel a bit of that old style retro killing spree game and those seeking a great game to play amongst with friends!

The Return of the Return of Gauntlet

Before we get started, let me make one thing clear: this may be the same plot as Gauntlet Legends, but it's a far cry from the same game.

I can't imagine what made Midway produce _one more game_ with the same old Skorne-took-over-the-world plot, but the end result is well worth the money for fans of hack-and-slash. The levels have been expanded and redesigned; the visuals have been cranked up; even the music has been given that classic "Gauntlet Feel", entirely missing from some Gauntlet Legend ports.

The most apparent change has been to the player classes: they've been doubled! Not only that, but a whole new series of attack styles, _two-player attacks_ have been added, based on the character you're playing.

All in all, this is one of the best games I've played recently, even if it _is_ the third time I've been through this plot :)

I got this game for Christmas 2 years ago, and I love it. I don't play video games all that much as a mom. But every now and then, I need to sit down and lose myself in a good game and kill a bunch of monsters. This game has lots of levels, some of it is bizarre with lots of monsters to kill and hack away at. I enjoy playing this game with the kids and they enjoy it too. I was really bummed when I finally finished all the levels. If you like role playing where you get to kill a bunch of gross monsters, this is one for you.
