BORING

First of all this game has some of the worst graphics on the PS2. I often found myself shooting my own partner in multi play because all the creatures look the same. Also, the levels are best described as flat, boring, and linear, with absolutely no challenge. The player characters and enemies are all the same with about two basic attacks each(actually the special attacks are kinda cool). Oh and the characters you can unlock through completing bonus levels are basically clones of other characters with different color clothes. Another thing that really bugged me about this game were the bosses. Usually in an RPG the bosses are imaginative, unique and challenging. But in Gauntlet if you happen to find a super "holy" item you instantly kill the boss. Where's the fun in that? If you really think you'll like this game please rent it first!

what ever happened to....

i remember hearing an excuse why playstation 2 games didn't look as good as gamecube and X-box games. the develpers haven't "tapped into the true power od the ps2." well i guess they still are trying to tap in. This has good grpahics, but it's nothing compared to Gamecube and x-box graphics. And they haven't even "tapped into their true power" yet, right.

I hate this game!... I own the game, I bought it because I heard good reviews about it. When I started playing it I was 'STUPIFIED'! The game has SNES graphics combined with a very thin and simply put, stupied plot. Enemys simply walk up to you and you punch them, then they die. The game is easy and predictable! Please don't buy this game like I did. I only gave it 1 star because I heard the multi-player was really fun, but I'm sure it's exacly like the single player. Don't play it!!!

this game was pure a**

Buyin this is out. Rent it and wish you hadn't. Anyone who ever played Diablo knows this is *not* an RPG. It is a cheesy arcade ripoff. The weak graphics do no justice to the PS2 platform. It is repetitive and boring.

Well, It is bad, bad, and uh, oh ya.....BAD

Remember Gauntlet Legends?

if you already hit to purchase this, i guess you haven't. Guantlet legends was a terrible game for the N64, that included swarms of monsters, and awkward camera angles. From the many problems, it created a chalenge. The game was no longer a game, it was a task. Not fun at all. Now a sequel. The game is totally based on graphics. Like most ps2 games, the companies spend their time on grpahics and disregard the gameplay. If this is anything like the original, which this game was reviewed to be like in japan, then you might want to look into a different game.

If You're Not A Gauntlet Fan, This Isn't For You

I bought this game after reading the great reviews on Amazon.com, and frankly, I was disappointed at what I was getting for an alledged "amazing" PS2 game. I'm sure any Gauntlet fans will praise this just like Legends and the original arcade classic. But really, how amazing is a game that you can beat by holding down one button and standing back from enimies? The graphics, with the excption of a few seconds-long cutscenes, are easily PSX level, and most of the good animation is taken up by moves you rarely need to use. The basic premise of the game is to find crystals and stones, but you need not deviate from the beaten path to get most of the items. The levels are cluelessly easy to finish; just keep walking and throwing your (infinite, I might add) weapon at a constant stream of enimies.

All the special moves and potions are extras put in for special effects, you could beat nearly any level without them. Bosses are slightly harder, but if you get the easy to find "legendary" items, the bosses are just huge goblins on their way to the chopping block. With weak graphics, little story, and monotonous levels, I thought, "Okay. Just try the multiplayer. That's what this game is all about." I tried with two controllers, because I never invested the $105 needed to get a multitap and 2 extra controllers, and needless to say, I was shocked. The multiplayer resembled a bad attempt to copy old "Ninja Turtles" games. The screen stayes locked on the two characters, and if you don't move smoothly together, you spend half the time sitting in poison gas because your partner is killing enimies on the other side of a wall. I can't imagine how confined four characters would feel. And you can kill all the enimies by yourself. Why bring a friend? To split the boredom?

If you loved Legends, perhaps you should try this, it IS an improvement. But don't buy it because of the good reviews, those are by die-hards who love hack & slash. RENT FIRST, if you don't mind losing the 5 bucks, and be sure to get far enough to realize how mind-numbingly similar all the levels end up being.

Can you say REHASH?

well, for starters, hahaha. you know, i'll never recommend this game to anyone that already owns gauntlet legends (GL). Why you ask. because it'd be no different than going to the store & buying the exact same game. same game you say? well, maybe not entirely, but it could've been a whole lot better..

for starters, the game engine used is a HARDLY tweaked version of the GL engine. they added a few (4 is it, and it doubles the cast of characters, but hardly improves upon them, as the "3D" models are SO low on the poly count, i'd gladly sacrafice them to see graphics up to par of.. any other PS2 game?

Also, the game gets horribly boring after a very short while, degrading into a sad display of button mashing in an eventually disinteresting game. The game has a measly 1, yes, 1 new area for you to easily conquer.

Why easy? because the A.I. is horrible. I don't think the enemy character's ability to fight back has improved since my first encounter w/ Gauntlet, back on my Apple IIc.

The enemy characters (either a standard sized zombie/undead walking type, or a smaller, crawling spider/dog type) do nothing more than walk towards you. yes, that's all. when they get to you they swing/bite/sting/whatever until you move towards them and "kill" them, or do a normal attack and hit them before they reach you. The 2 exceptions being a suicide ogre/goblin type that occaisionally shows up w/ a exploding barrel on his back, and he'll blow up when touched/shot. also, there are either bomb lobbers or acchers that offer the only ranged enemy attacks.

more you ask? well, to make the game unnecessarily longer, you have to not only go through all of the different "lands" in the kingdom to defeat each boss character and steal their key, but you also need to find 2-3 rune stones in each "land", these are necessary to be able to unlock the fight w/ the final boss of the game, without them you have to basically start over. (to be able to travel to the last "land", you have to sacrafice your keys. so if you're missing any stones when you do this, you have to replay the game to be able to fight the final boss..

did i say anything good about the game? i'm not sure, but it's so incredibly disappointing, i'd rent it if i were you before you buy it. please, i'm begging you!

ps. btw, the only reason it got 2 stars is because they managed to port it pretty much perfectly from the arcade, which is not always easy.

What fun and joy

Simply put, this game is another version of Gauntlet Legends, a "fun" game where you run around and shoot monsters. This game, I noticed, is very much alike to that, so much that I knew what would come next in many levels, due to the fact that I had already played them. The only differences are the inability to turn off items, slightly improved graphics, different numbers, and different plot. I advise buying it only if you like mindless kill the enemy games that can be played while dictating your work.
