A truly Great Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

Red Faction is a true gaming masterpiece. Although I'm not usually a fan of the first person game, the scenery in Red Faction is so detailed and imaginative that the drawbacks of the first person perspective is overcome. You actually feel as though you are on Mars, combating the evil of Ultor. The action is almost non-stop, with a puzzle structure that is extremely well balanced: Chanllenging enough to hold the player's interest without being overly difficult to solve, making the pace of the game just right.

The weapons are varied, and powerful. The addition of the Geo-mod technology within the game add depth and realizm to the action. The battles in the game are very bloody, which while adding to the realizm and drama of the game, also make it not acceptable for children. Definately for grown ups only.

Thanks,

The replacement for Goldeneye!

Besides the controls being a bit difficult to start with, this game is really fun! The graphics are good and the fighter has the ability to shoot down walls and bringes for secret rooms. Its simply a great game!

The geo mod on this is the best thing I ever experienced in a game. Theres something about blowing through the wall slaughtering everything on the other side and going on your merry way that apeals to me.The graphics are exelent. And the multi player for computer is pretty well done. If you like first person shooter than get this game it delivers a good bit of entertanment and will satisfy the average gamers needs.

Red Faction- The First of its Kind

Red Faction takes place on Mars in the near future. You play as Parker, a miner lured to Mars by the Ultor Corporation's promises of success and adventure. However, reality quickly sets in that miners are severely beaten and a plague is running rampant throughout the barracks.
The opening scene shows Parker as a witness to a brutal murder of a fellow minor. It is survival of the fittest- kill or be killed- and a viscous rebellion ensues.
It is your job to bring down the Ultor Corporation. To aid you on your quest, you are offered a wide array of weapons of mass destruction, 15 to be exact. There are a total of 20 levels of gameplay and 5 vehicles to steal.
Gameplay is perhaps the most important feature of Red faction. THQ introduces a new style of gameplay interface known as Geo-Mod Technology. The first of its kind, Red faction allows you to modify your surrounding environment by blasting your way through walls, doors, and even ceilings. If you can't find the key- make your own door!
Movement throughout the game requires the use of the analog control sticks. Movement is smooth and relatively easy to control. Also, all aspects of movement, including pitch sensitivity and analog function, can be adjusted in the options menu.
Red faction offers a multiplayer mode of up to 2 people and 6 bots. There is a wide array of maps to choose from, however they are fairly limited in size.
The graphics in Red Faction are perhaps the game's biggest downfall. Bodies are relatively blocky, and too much fire can produce a "choppy" frame resolution.
The audio portion of Red Faction adds to the excitement of the gameplay. The music is well selected and the sound effects are average.
Overall I give red Faction 4 out of 5 stars. I would highly recommend purchasing it if you are a fan of first person shooters. It will provide hours of gameplay and enjoyment.

Red Faction

Red Faction is a great first person shooter, personally my favorite along with Red Faction 2. But this game i think is the best first person shooter on the market it has good graphics fun cool weapons and it's sometimes funny. For example i like taking remote charges and sticking them to peoples groin and BOOM! also single player mode has a good story. The story is that you are a miner on mars and you must get off the planet and destroy ultor if i remember correctly but if it were up to me you would be thrown in jail for not having it.

Incredibly fun 1st-person shooter

After playing the demo, which was plagued with nasty slowdown, I held out little hope. But the released product was actually quite good. More than a little Half-Life influence, which drags down the originality score, but RF more than makes up for it with solid gameplay, compelling sound, tight control, and a cohesive storyline. I can understand the plot complaints though, as it did tend to get slightly dry and boring at times. But overall, this is certainly one of the very best 1st-person shooters for the system. Too bad the "Geo Mod" technology was only a shallow gimmick.

Red Faction is Dissapointing

Red Faction looked like the coolest game. Then I bought it. Dont get me wrong the single player mode is cool, the graphics are good. The geo mode is pretty interesting as well. But the multiplayer mode is terribly dissapoiting. Other than picking your character and opponents and level there is nothing else. No multi modes, just basic deathmatch. No gun options, and no geo mode objective based mutli gaming promised by thq. If you want a good single player game go for this title. If your expecting a Goldeneye esque multi mode stick with something else. This game has fallen way short of expectations.

This one's up there with Half-Life

Finaly a sincerely good PS2 game. -My thoughts upon playing the game for the first time.
Who ever heard of when having a shoot out with a friend on multiplayer, you could whip out a rocket launcher and take out his/her hiding spot? Whoever heard of planting an explosive on a bridge and then taking out the bridge to take out an armored vehicle. The Geo Mod is probably what made this game, and no-one will ever get tired of blowing up a wall or rock.

Other than the Geo Mod, this game has its plusses. For one thing, its got shoot 'em up fun. Also, there are lots of extra fun areas for no other reason, hey whats wrong with stumbling into a room, having 100's of men come at you, finding a machine gun turret and blowing them all away, only to find more life in the room when you're done? It adds to the feel of the size of the world too, although it doesn't really need to feel much bigger (its already huge). Lastly, there are hours upon hours of gameplay. On another note, the multiplayer is awesome, play with an enthusiastic friend and you'll see.

Those are the basic pros, now here are the cons: Whenever they tell you that you might end up in a group, the group dies and you fight everyone by yourself again (hey, I get lonely). The main character is faceless, he has no personality, no feelings, it says in the booklet that he came from a perfect family, I mean, I know FPS's aren't supposed to have plots and character building, but at least a little more, there's hardly even any dialogue.

Overall this is a game to buy if you like FPS's and to try if you don't. The multiplayer is probably my favorite, To bad no multitap or team vs. computer though. The main game is huge, fun, and full of tons of action.
Finally, the part that sells this is the geo mod. Rent it if that sounds interesting, and I think you'll end up buying it (if you have the money).

...I tested this game, and it is a definite hit in the making. I see too many similarities with other shooters, but it's still one to buy upon its release....
